Killzone 2

Definitely not worth it, just read the back story online (not that there is much story)

There doesn't look to be much substance, just your typical space marine shooter. I'm only really interested because it looks so damn beautiful and the online has some promising aspects.

Not really tbh, it's World War 2 with a sci-fi twist and a **** load of politics. Nothing too deep or underlying questions etc. Just a straight forward war between two worlds/races.

Basically, you kill the Helghast or they kill you, simple as that :p

Yeah but in the world of FPS games, that's pretty decent compared to the usual alien shooter :p

Well more than half of the story you told Jonny to read doesn't even take place in the first game, so its not even important to know tbh.

I was about to go into a huge comparison about how the backstory in Halo is a good comparison and how it actually effected the story in the games, with all the questions that needed answering etc, but I can't be bothered tbh. It's saturday and I'm relaxing lol.

So to answer Jonny's question, either relate it to WW2 or Star Wars, both are pretty fitting (yes I'm now relating nazi's to the Imperial Empire )

I finally got around to reading the OPM review and it sounds pretty good. They say the voice acting is mediocre but well I don't really care. What I do care about though is that I read that you can't play the hardest difficulty until you beat the game. That I can't stand. I really don't understand why developers do that. To many games are doing it now and there is simply no reason for it. I just want to be able to put the game in and play at the hardest difficulty possible the first time around.

There are a lot of games that have little BS mechanics like that to try and extend the replayability by basically forcing you to play it over. Unless there are major choices you get to make that actually effect the story there's really no reason to require multiple playthoughs of the entire game just to get new modes/unlockables/trophies. If they want to include requirements for beating something using only a certain weapon they should limit them to just one stage, otherwise you either have to playthrough the whole game multiple times, or play it using only the base gun or only melee or whatever the requirement is the first time and then never see the full arsenal the game has to offer.

It's always been like that with games as far as I can remember.

You get Easy/Normal/Hard and then there's some extreme mode unlocked after a playthrough.

Are you kidding me? I hate when they do that!

You make it sound like every game does that, I can't even remember the last game I played where they lock the highest difficulty mode.

There are a ton of games that don't do that. The big ones like Call of Duty and Gears of War don't. It just seems completely pointless to do.

Oh well, my bad.

It's been that way with MGS and some other games I've played [big Boss Mode/European Exteme]. I think Uncharted unlocks Crushing mode after a playthrough as well.

I usually play in medium anyway :p

I think it's just because the devs expect you'll probably do the story mode more than once [trophies for one thing], and hard is "hard enough" for your first playthrough. Guess we'll find out how hard hard is when we get the game.

I won't even play on Hard the first time through now. I am going to play on the easiest difficulty just so I can get through it so I can play it again.

That's gonna be one crappy 1st playthrough :p

Just stick it on hard, you don't even know how challenging the game is yet.

Don't you have to beat Gears 2 on Hard before you unlock Insane?

Yeah I'm positive you do, but Dirk said no earlier.

As I said previously, a lot of games put the highest tier in as an unlockable.

edit: Seems you do

Gears of War 2 Unlockable: Insane Difficulty

To unlock the Insane Difficulty level, complete the game once through on any difficulty setting previously available.
