Killzone 2

Just got it there as well :)

Had no idea what it's called though cause it was during my no HUD playthrough haha - [seriously though, try it with everything turned off, I think I'll be playing the SP campaign like this]. Like someone said earlier, it has very little ammo, but it's right at the end of the demo anyway.

Yeah I wanted to kill someone with it. There was one helghast alive when I got it but my partner killed him :s

Yeah friendly AI is fairly decent at taking out some of the Helghast :p

Some pics, no hud FTW! I think the elite difficulty, as well as being harder health/enemy wise also forces no hud upon you.

Will play it no hub first thing in the morning after doing groceries :), I'll play my first SP on the hardest difficulty as well - this "trooper" difficulty just doesn't cut it... at least not in this level :p

Luckily the elite difficulty is not immediately available, I think I'd meet my demise rather quickly there... :p

First thing I did, first thing :p

They need to unlock all difficulty levels in the demo, it's way too easy :(

Yup.

I died once on my first play through, but that was from a helghast grenade I didn't know was aimed as precisely as it was in my direction :p I knew it landed behind me, but I didn't think it was that close.

Apart from that, even FPS noob me had no problem.

Hard with no HUD should be quite challenging but, reviews at least say hard is indeed challenging, and none of them mentioned playing without HUD. Obviously some of you seasoned FPSers though will probably want elite without hud :x

*Splooge*

/dreams of the day he doesn't suck at FPS games.

To be fair, the removal of FPS "auto-aim" might give me a level playing ground online. Many people won't be used to it missing [on consoles that is], so I might have a chance if I can master aiming properly

I mean, if you play Resistance 2, it practically locks onto your target for you and actually follows them slightly :o

Enjoyed it. It is very short but bah. The only two things I have a problem with is the menu. That shaking crap is horrible. The other being that the controls are a little sluggish. I'm sure I will get use to it after a while but it feels the same way the Turok demo felt, which is UGH!

Yeah thats the one. It has bugger all ammo but its fun while it lasts. :p

After you blow the bridge up at the start theres a guy firing down at you from the balcony, on the floor above him theres another trench coat guy (or at least it looks like one). I don't know if he has a different weapon either, worth a look though.

that's the one i thought you guys were on about... anyway, he has a rocket launcher. i only got 2 ammo with it, but it quickly takes out the swarms coming from their tanks.

i'm assuming the other guy is the one on the roof inside the building (after the lift)?

I'm about 8% into my download and I can't wait. Hopefully it lives up to the insane hype this game has gotten.

On that note, I should get back to my essay too :|

Audio, what are your thoughts on the game?

Can't really give my thoughts "on the game", as it's an 8 minute demo out of a 10 hour campaign.... Right now it's like reading 15 pages out of a 200 page book, or watching 10 minutes of a LOTR's film and coming out and giving an opinion. You've still got 95% of the game/book/movie to experience, so it's a bit daft believing you have the whole thing wrapped - Sharing initial views is expected, but you really gotta be open to your perception changing, especially if you only experience "5%" of what you're going to. I guess that's the same for any demo but

All I can say about the demo is what it shows off visually and from an audio standpoint is top notch. I personally love the pacing and weight the game has behind it, it's a bit different from your "usual" 100mph on ice twitchy FPS game. You feel like you're actually carrying/aiming a real gun, rather than firing a bb gun, and you move a bit slower as if your armour and terrain actually has an affect on you. Think that's probably why I like it.

I feel it's a good balance between something that's all out tactical like Socom, and something fast paced like COD4/5. A good ground for me, as I'm not quite skillful enough for Socom, and also a little slow to progress in fast paced FPS games. TF2 the only game against those rules, but

a) I play it on the PC - I'm quite good at PC FPS games

&

b) It's heavily team based with supporting roles (you aren't always random gunner number 9 parading the battlefield yourself)

The class aspect of KZ2 makes it even more appealing to me, for the same reasons I like TF2. If I ain't doing that great as an attack class in a match, I can switch to support and still be effective rather than grinding out the rest of the match sucking in attack.

It's one hell of a tease of a demo, it doesn't even end with a bang, you just walk out a door and that's it. I'm still as excited for the final game, I just really want to play it now and get to some areas I haven't seen [demo is a small chunk of a level we've been seeing over and over since E3 2007]. I think one of the best things I found is how much I actually like playing the game with no hud/crosshair. Not many other games offer the immersion of removing everything, or if they do, it doesn't feel as satisfying as KZ2 does - Which is partly because of the realistic approach to shooting/aiming and moving, and partly because of how good looking and sounding the game is.

Summed up, don't expect the demo in terms of set pieces to wow you - It's a pretty standard snippet made intense through it's controls/aiming/visuals and audio. It's much to short to get a hold on you, and the way it ends is disappointing. I really feel the demo just exists to allow you to play around with the controls and get a feel for things, as opposed to woah you [unless we're talking technical/gameplay merits] - But I guess with the amount of media/coverage and the fact KZ2 reviews have been early, Guerilla feel that side of things is already in the bag - Which is probably a fair assumption with 1.1 million EU pre-orders already and the marketing push hasn't even started.

Oh, Larry's review getting pimped on the KZ2 GAF thread :p

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p...postcount=30673

Nice. Nice. That is very damn cool. Just curious, is that a member here?? If so, thank you. (Y)

I actually will have another review of a third party controller up soon. I met them at CES actually and they followed up with the controller itself, so nice surprise. Guess what controller it is set up like in terms of design? ;)

So downloaded it, got to the menu and played around, and my wife said dinner was ready. Will be checking out after were done watching a show on the DVR.

Oh yeah, in regards to playing around with the menu, was in the controllers setting, and I must have read that initial list that was posted wrong, as I thought Alternate 2 meant Fire was R2 and Zoom was L2

So I cannot lie, and I am sure it has been talked about to death already but since I last read this thread at work earlier today I think 10 pages at least have been added, but I am really, really not happy with the fact I am not able to customize the controls. I am sure I will get used to whatever layout I wind up using, but seriously, wish I was not forced to get used to it their way and play it with whatever control configuration I see fit. Unfortunately what I would prefer as the controls they do not provide as an option.

I will be able to overlook it eventually, probably really quickly actually, I just had to bitch about it one final time. I just find it absolutely unacceptable, I do.

So should check it out within 30 minutes, and will post back with my impression of the actual game itself. :p

I found it took a few minutes to get used the the heavy gun feeling, and I suck at shooting, but overall the game is incredible.

It's easily the best looking game ever made. The graphics are just incredible and so is the sound. It makes COD:WaW seem last gen...I'm looking forward to picking this game up now.

Well worth the wait for sure. This is the game the PS3 needed. I make it sound like its the messiah we've been waiting for. :p

As much as I cannot stand the fact I cannot customize the controls, I can and pretty much already have gotten use to their scheme. I am sticking with standard, as thanks to the cover system, I think it makes the most sense overall out of all of the schemes.

First play-through I was getting used to the controls and hating it. Second play-through I was still getting used to the controls and liked it. Third play-through I was a bit more comfortable with the controls, and I really liked it.

I personally really like the slowed down more deliberate pace, actually reminds me of classic FPS's in that regards as it is all about really getting involved in the moment, and not just being completely about chaos and lots of bullets flying around and just firing like a mad man. The player really actually can feel a heavy weight to your character, which is indeed different as opposed to FPS's of late. So as unrealistic as the overall tone may be, has a pseudo realistic feel to the shooting, which is definitely cool.

And it looks amazing, just as expected. That really does go without saying. I do have to say that I did notice some lower res textures fairly obviously, but I was also looking for them as they have been pointed out over and over in nearly every review. So just noting that I do see them, but to me they are almost a non-factor as they can easily and will be overlooked. Overall look is amazing. Sound as well.

So basically this has wet my appetite for the Single Player, but what it has really done has made me have that much higher hopes for the Multiplayer, as I really think that is where this game will, and quite frankly has to, shine IMO. Meaning to live up to the game it has been marketed and said by Sony it is going to be, the MP has to be something quite special.

So while it seems like I am very much going to enjoy the SP, hell the potential is there for me to perhaps even love it, just based on what I have played, the SP would not be enough for me to say it is a system mover as it has been, unjustifiably or not, labeled.

Just my initial impressions, and as many of you know, I am always a tough critic so while it might sound a bit harsh, it's not meant to me. It's just meant to be a honest first impression, which as many of you also know, my first impressions are not set in stone. I often do change my overall thoughts on a game once more time is spent with it.

I really liked the demo but along with you guys i thought it was short. I liked the slower pace of it and ended up covering/crouching a lot. The first thing i did in the game was throw a grenade at my squad and possibly killed a couple of them so i need to get used to the controls. Visually it was very good and the AI was also pretty good, although a little easy.
