[Cancelled] Caprica (Season 1)

Recommended Posts

World Wrestling Entertainment is moving its Friday Night SmackDown series to cable: Syfy will air the series starting Oct. 1 because its current home, MyNetworkTV, decided to end its contract. Syfy also is moving original series such as Stargate Universe, Sanctuary and Caprica from Fridays to Tuesdays, when viewing levels are higher, and in turn will drop WWE's new NXT series, now being shopped to other cable outlets. SmackDown, a top Friday draw among young men, premiered in 1999 on UPN; Syfy sibling USA airs WWE's Raw.

Good news.

"Caprica" will be coming back and they've officially released the titles of the upcoming episodes for the second half of Season One:

  • Unvanquished
  • Retribution
  • Things We Lock Away
  • False Labour
  • Blowback
  • The Dirteaters
  • The Heavens Will Rise
  • Here Be Dragons
  • Apotheosis

I have been watching shows later then release dates, because of bandwidth and other reasons. So I haven't been caught up on some of my favorite shows.

So I just went to download Caprica, yet I am already caught up. What is with the break for so long?

Syfy does this with shows just like the few months we had with SGU

Caprica, on the other hand, is still stuck in limbo. It's not canceled, exactly, but it apparently won't be renewed any time soon either. Apparently no decisions actually have to be made until the actors' contracts are up, which isn't until August. [Caprica TV]

I have to follow more news blogs, cause I don't check neowin that often. And I didn't know this.

well that sucks, that means its more then 10 months its been away from the screen...not sure anyone will care.

was meant to return in October

"Caprica," the prequel series to "Battlestar Galactica," which ended in 2009, has been struggling to stay afloat in the ratings but creator Ronald D. Moore and the actors were confident Friday that when it returned for the second half of Season 1 in January, things will pick up.

Alessandra Toressani shared that "there are a lot new Zoes that you meet" in the upcoming episodes.

But what about a Season 2?

"I firmly believe we'll be back," Moore said. The second half of the first season is really when the series "hits its stride."

Even so, Moore shared that he had about half a dozen pivotal moments in the timeline leading up to the "Battlestar" miniseries that could act as potential endpoints for "Caprica."

    • A coalition of publishers sued OpenAI and Microsoft over scraping content without consent by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com AI companies often rely on readily available internet content to train their chatbots and provide users with instant answers. This method of AI training is fast and relatively inexpensive, but using a website’s content without permission or compensation is not something publishers like to see, and this is exactly why Microsoft and OpenAI are now being sued. As reported by Bloomberg, a group of publishers that collectively own nearly 400 newspapers has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The coalition argues that the two companies scraped their content to build AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot without paying any compensation. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that while AI products have generated billions of dollars in market value using publishers’ work, none of that value has been shared with the publishers. The plaintiffs are seeking statutory damages and injunctive relief for alleged copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “Defendants systematically and secretly crawled the Publishers’ websites—including content behind paywalls and other access restrictions—and copied the Publishers’ articles, stories, and other original works onto their own servers without authorization,” the complaint states. The publishers also described the AI boom as a “death knell for local journalism” if AI companies that scrape content for free are not held accountable. Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his law firm, Platkin LLP, are representing the publishers. “Our models empower innovation, are trained on publicly available data, and are grounded in fair use,” OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri told Bloomberg. This is not the first lawsuit involving the unauthorized use of publishers’ content by AI firms, but it is one of the largest coalitions ever formed against the free use of content by AI chatbots. In 2024, OpenAI and Microsoft also faced a similar lawsuit from eight newspapers that claimed AI products were benefiting from their content without permission.
