FPS with PS3 controller?

aren't the analogs on the dualshock3 a little better than sixaxis?

I find myself unable to play any FPS without a keyboard and a mouse :D

Exactly the same.

The DS3 just feels like a better build quality though seeing as it's a littler heavier.

I am currently waiting for mine :)

Is it really worth the "upgrade" ? Compared to the sixaxis... i bought it because it was cheap (from amazon 42?)

I found on the internet that the analogs are a little better, maybe because of rumble the structure needs to be stronger i guess

Yeah, as Coldgunner said, it's quite hard to go back to the sixaxis afterwards.

Not really from a rumble standpoint, but because the DS3 feels much better in your hands.

Definitely worth the upgrade on that merit, but obviously for rumble as wel:p:p

Nice to hear(read ) that :D

I can't wait to get my hands on it... Bought it from amazon.co.uk but i guess it's only coming around half august :/

I guess i need to play some FPS on the PS3 so i can get some experience... i just can't work with the 2 analogs at the same time.

I find myself rotating at 360 degrees sometimes haha

Yeah im hugely mediocre at FPS games on the consoles because I'm so used to a KB/M.

I'm not bad though.

However when I first got my PS3 (got it before my 360), I was running around in circles in Warhawk/Resistance as well  Complete fail.

I do believe on any console though with extended play time of whatever game you're playing, you adopt and get better. Happens that way with me anyway.

Or you just neck a few beers, that always makes you think you're playing better than you are :p

LOL! don't talk about Warhawk, i bought it because of the bluetooth headset. i've tried several times to play it but i just can get anyone on my scope haha.

I've played the demo of resistance and i found that's quite good! after a few times of playing i got a little the hang of that lol

If you're interested in flying in Warhawk, create your own game so only you can play.

The just fly around, and learn the maps a bit.

That's what I did to get used to flying :)

However I still prefer just sitting in the anti-aircraft guns and shooting down planes :p

I own both systems and each have their own qualities i like about them.

But as DL said, its a matter of preference.

I use to play my 360 all the time till it RROD on me.

But my Ps3 is what I play the most.

But either way it all comes down to who likes what.

I love my ps3 controller over xbox360s.

I have smaller hands so the ps3 fits me well, but regardless. Its all preference.

I bought the PS3 because i like more sony than microsoft but that might also be that all my friends around me always got PS1 and PS2... a few years ago i just spent all my time on a friends house playing capcom vs snk2 on the ps2.

I want capcom vs snk 3 for PS3 :D hehe

When I had my 360 I didn't like the controller -- it felt almost cheap to me. The D-Pad (which is the first thing you use when creating your profile) instantly let me down, using it was hard work. The PS3 controller isn't perfect but it's hardly horrible!

Still, K/M > controllers for FPS every time. Arguing which is better between the 2 console controllers reminds me of that joke about arguing on the Internet and the Special Olympics.

Umm, the OP was asking how good CoD4 is on the PS3, and you've all hijacked the thread and turned it into a controller war! :D

Oh well, I better weigh in my two cents.

IMO, the PS3 controller isn't right. The left analog stick is in the wrong position, and it's far too light for my liking. I do like the d-pad, though. It's a lot better than the 360's clunky one. The SIXAXIS is a bit dodgy, though. I think it works great in Fatal Inertia EX, though! It can also work well in MotorStorm, as long as you don't set it to High! I like it in Uncharted as well when doing the balancing sequences. I like it as a secondary option for control. I don't want it to completely take over the game, like the Wii does.

When it comes to K/M vs. gamepad, I always rooted for the gamepad, but now, I think I'm siding with the K/M; mainly because it's more precise than today's controllers. I don't like using a keyboard a lot on a PC game, though, because there's hundreds of different commands! That's what drives me away from PC games. You've got 16 buttons max on a 360 controller, it's not confusing.

I think when the controllers get better analog sticks (more precise and more sensitive), then the controller will > K/M, but that could be a long time away.

    • It is fundamentally impossible to secure delete files, especially on newer HDDs and all SSDs. You never know how the controller firmware is going to layout data or copy data around to optimize access or invoke wear leveling. The only way to securely “delete” something is to put it on an encrypted file system and forget the encryption key, assuming any apps you open the files in don’t copy the files to a local cache on the boot volumes.
    • TBF, it has had PST support for quite a while now. But I still want them to add the ability to drag & drop between accounts / PSTs.
    • LibreOffice closes in on Office, leaves Windows 7/8 behind in 25.8 Beta 1 by David Uzondu The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 25.8 Beta 1 for public testing on Linux, macOS, and Windows. This is the second pre-release for the 25.8 cycle and the foundation says that the final, stable version of LibreOffice 25.8 is expected to land at the end of August 2025. Starting off with Writer, LibreOffice's Word, the developers have finally addressed some long-standing annoyances, including a new command to easily insert a paragraph break right before a table. This beta also introduces a useful privacy feature in its Auto-Redact tool, letting you strip all images from a document with a single option. To use it, go to Tools and select the Auto-Redact option: The application has improved its ability to handle different languages for punctuation, preventing mix-ups in multilingual documents. Other notable improvements have also been made. A new hyphenation rule lets you choose to prevent a word from splitting at the end of a page, moving the whole line to the next page instead. Microsoft Word has had this feature for years now. The Navigator now displays a handy tooltip with word and character counts for headings and their sub-outlines. Scrolling behavior when selecting text has been improved, making it less erratic. A new command with a keyboard shortcut was added for converting fields into plain text. Calc gets a lot of new functions that bring it closer to its competitors like Excel, including TEXTSPLIT, VSTACK, and WRAPROWS. Impress now properly supports embedded fonts in PPTX files, which should reduce headaches when sharing presentations with PowerPoint users. Alongside these additions, the project is also cleaning house; support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 has been completely dropped. There are also smaller UI tweaks across the suite, like allowing a single click to enter rotation mode for objects in Writer and Calc. macOS users get better integration, with proper support for native full screen mode and new window management features from the Sequoia update. In terms of performance, the team has optimized everything from loading huge DOC files and XLSX spreadsheets with tons of conditional formatting to simply switching between sheets in Calc. These improvements should be noticeable, especially when working with complex documents. A new application-wide "Viewer mode" has also been implemented, which opens all files in a read-only state for quick, safe viewing. On a related note, The Document Foundation has joined efforts by the likes of KDE to encourage Windows 10 users to switch to Linux. Also, you might have heard that Denmark, in a bid to lessen its reliance on Microsoft, has decided to make a full switch to LibreOffice, with plans to begin phasing out Office 365 in certain ministries as early as next month. If you're interested in this release, you can read the full release notes and download the binaries for your platform: Windows, macOS (Intel | Apple Silicon), or Linux (DEB | RPM).
