Here is an update for a program which I have posted about in one of my pervious posts.

In one of my previous posts, I posted about a shareware Apple 2 RPG game called Silvern Castle which was re-released for free download by the author & I have an update about Silvern Castle. Jeff Fink who is the author of Silvern Castle has created a website for Silvern Castle which is located at http://www.syndicomm.com/~finksterj/SilvernCastle/ . The good news is that Jeff Fink has created a disc image for emulators on the above site, in the past you had to create the disc images yourself.

RedWolf Design has released their shareware game called Clonk Planet as freeware. The game can be downloaded from http://www.clonk.de/contents_en.html . This adds another Clonk game for free download considering that RedWolf Design has released many of their Clonk games for free download.

Ed T. Toton III aka NecroBones has released the registration keys for many of his shareware/games apps. You download the apps & enter in the registration code & you then have the full registered version. You can download his games/apps from:

John Doroshenko released his old shareware game called Gravity Wars as freeware. This is a small DOS game, the download is only 36 KB. This game supports both the EGA & VGA graphic adapters. The game can be downloaded from http://www.physics.rutgers.edu/~doroshen/d...oads/gwars.html .

Wanton Destruction for Shadow Warrior Released!

After being locked away on some dude's floppy discs for about a decade, 3D Realms is releasing the Wanton Warrior add-on for Shadow Warrior which has never seen the light of day... UNTIL NOW:

Anthony Campiti: When Shadow Warrior was released, it quickly became the favorite game in the office. Who could forget those damn sticky bombs! When we were given the chance to create an add-on for SW, we jumped in determined to make it the best add-on product on the market. Our level designers did incredible work and stretched the limits of the BUILD engine.

Unfortunately, due to various circumstances Wanton Destruction was never released. Years went by and we moved onto dozens of other projects. But, recently I was going through our software archives and I found a CD-R labeled 'Add-on Archive 1'. I'm happy to say it includes a complete archive of the Wanton Destruction project. I quickly sent and email to 3DRealms so they could get into the hands of the Shadow Warrior fans! Enjoy more Lo Wang!

Not a full game, but an official add-on for free has to be good.

I wonder if Shadow Warrior will run under XP?

Sleepless Software Inc. has released another of their shareware games for free download. The game is called PocoMan! & it is a clone of Sokoban. This game requires a computer running Windows (XP, 98, 95, ME, 2K, NT, XP). You can download this game from http://www.sleepless.com/pocoman/index.php .

It won't run natively, but if you add this Win32/OpenGL port by JonoF (After installing both SW and the Addon), it works:

Here is a find. During 2004, the current copyright owners of the operating system called GEOS released GEOS as a free download. The download prohibites redistrubution which means that you can't put the files for download on any other websites.

GEOS was a popular operating system for the Commodore 64/Commodore 128 which turned the C64/C128 into something similar to the Macintosh. You can download the GEOS boot discs from http://www.cmdrkey.com/cbm/geos/geos13.html .

I was reading the Gamehippo forums (I am registered with Gamehippo, have been for the last 2 yrs.) & I read a post about a shareware game which has been re-released for free download.

The game is called Poing! PC. This game is a Breakout clone & you can download it from http://www.firestormproductions.co.uk/poing/ .

can I somewhere download :

METAL GEAR  from y 1987 ?

586546273[/snapback]

The answer is no. Metal Gear is owned by Konami & they have not given permission for Metal Gear to be downloaded for free which means if you want Metal Gear, you will have to check out EABY, et al.

We can't give any links to sites which have the above game for download because since Konami hasn't given permission for the game to avaliable for download on the NET, It's illegal to download the game.

It would be a little more helpful if someone reviewed each of these apps to place a rating value :/

Quite frankly, I think that would be sort of counter-productive. After all, if you were a developer or publisher, someone asked you to release an old game for free and you did, would seeing it be put down by bad reviews do anything to encourage you to release more freebies? Just food for thought. :)

I agree with Cappuchok. There were many times when I read game reviews (reviews for freeware, shareware & commerical games) where many people said that the game stunk but when I played the game, I loved the game. Most people avoid games which have bad reviews but you might enjoy the game.

The difference with games re-released for free download, if you don't like the game, the only thing that you loose is the time downloading/playing the game. In the commerical game worl, if you buy a game & then you don't like it, you loose the money you paid from the game.

Well the trick is, dont spend alot of money on the games you buy from the store.

Well, I don't loose money on commerical software because I only buy what I want so I don't loose money.

I'm more a supporter of the freeware/open-source software movement.

I'll just mention that you might want to take a look at http://www.liberatedgames.org as well as this thread.

In other news, ScummVM reports that the sources to Discworld have finally been located and will be sorted and sent over to them shortly. This means that some time in the not too distant future, Discworld will likely be re-issued as freeware, but it has not been labelled as such yet, so please respect the copyrights.

Well, it has been awhile since I have found any games but I just found another one.

A game company called Alas Soft di Cattani Paolo has released the full version of their game called Virtual Grand Prix 2 for free download. This is the sequel to the Amiga game called Virtual Grand Prix. The download is for the MorphOS version only which means that you have to own an Amiga computer which runs MorphOS, MorphOS currently is not emulatable. The MorphOS version can be downloaded from http://www.virtualgrandprix2.com/download.html .

The Alas Soft di Cattani Paolo game company also released a version of the game for Windows but right now, they are undecided tabout what to do with the Windows version.

This game was sold commerically but their publisher ( Lago Srl) has not paid the royalties to the game company hence this is the reason why the MorphOS version was released for free download. You can read about their troubles at http://www.virtualgrandprix2.com/ .

Good work here. My respect.

But the list on the first page is still missing 2 of my all-time-favourites:

OnEscapee - http://onescapee.invictus.hu/

and Quadrax - http://www.cauldron.sk/projects/quadrax/

Thanks again and good luck in what you do.

P.S. Hope to see Chewy and Alien Incident soon:)

OnEscapee was already mentioned on page 27 by cappuchok.

The list on the front page isn't maintained too much anymore because cappuchok (the creator of this thread) doesn't have time to update the list as much as they used to.

But thank you for the Quadrax link. It's always great to see authors re-releasing their old games for free download.

P.S. Hope to see Chewy and Alien Incident soon:)

I've heard rumors that the ScummVM team were looking into porting those games a while back, but nothing came of it since it proved hard to obtain the original source code. Or something like that.

    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, mucking around with settings, maybe shoot some calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.
    • I misread the title and thought Teams itself would be redesigned. Imagine having this one as a native WinUI app.
    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
    • Getting further away from the artistic study of mental disease that was the first game... (which never needed any sequels to begin with) But I get it, a company has to make money. And the second was at least visually impressive, if not in any other way.
    • If its the devs fault you would think Unreal would help M$ take full advantage of Unreal and work with them to fix the performance issues. Otherwise they are catching unwarranted bad press.
