Bradley-Cooper-41066-702.jpg

Hitfix is reporting the rumor that The Hangover star Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers, "Alias") is a frontrunner to play the title role in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. No deal has been signed yet, however.

The site says the Warner Bros. Pictures comic book adaptation starts shooting later this summer for a December 17, 2010 release.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan, introduced in 1959, is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Brian Austin Green And Shawn Roberts Among Potential ?Green Lantern? Leads?

The Bradley Cooper as Green Lantern casting rumor hasn?t even begun to cool down, and already there are new names being thrown into the ring for the coveted role of Hal Jordan.

Unnamed sources are telling Latino Review that newcomer actor Shawn Roberts and ?Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles? star Brian Austin Green are both in contention for the lead role in director Martin Campbell?s ?Green Lantern? adaptation, set to release on June 17, 2011.

Roberts is said to have auditioned for Campbell ?various times? and has met with the director to discuss the role and the film. He also has an advantage in that he recently wrapped filming on Campbell?s ?Edge of Darkness.? The site is also quick to point out that Roberts is 25 years old, falling right in the optimal age range for a younger Hal Jordan.

Meanwhile, the site claims that Green has also auditioned for the role, going so far as to wear the famous Green Lantern mask. According to Latino Review?s source, Green is considered to be a longshot due to his older age. Even if the actor doesn?t land the ?Green Lantern? gig, Green will still have a connection to comic book cinema for a time to come ? his girlfriend Megan Fox, currently filming ?Jonah Hex,? is attached to star in ?Fathom,? which Green will co-produce.

Maybe the most concrete news you can take from these latest casting rumors is that Campbell has definitely not made up his mind about who will play the heroic superhero. With the film?s release date pushed back six months, it?s likely we?ll be hearing a lot more stories like this in the weeks to come.

Ok me like others are confused ... I didn't read a lot of GL comics ... but is GL supposed to be black, or white? Some comics he was black, others he was white... so i'm kinda lost :l

Sounds a bit like Nick Fury where he was white and lately has been modeled on Sam Jackson.

well currently there are 4 green lanterns from Earth

Hal Jordan (white)

Guy Gardner (white)

John Stewart (black)

Kyle Raynor (white)

im not including alan scott cause well hes different.

Its really a pita to explain here so i suggest checking the wikipedia since there is just so much information . The just of it is Hal Jordan got the ring because he was closer to the source(a dying green lantern who crashed to earth by the name of Abin Sur) and Guy Gardner was passed up since he was further away. Later he was chosen, then Stewart, then Kyle.

Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

Yesterday it was reported that Justin Timberlake was in contention to play The Green Lantern. JT had shot a screen test for the film, as had the other three contenders Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, and Ryan Reynolds. But at the end of the day on Friday, Reynolds was chosen over the other finalists to play the role of Hal Jordan aka The Green Lantern.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that the deal isn?t yet finalized, but Reynolds in the final choice (they just need to agree on money and specifics). The studio ?had holding options on the three actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds? option would have expired end of day Friday.? Producer Donald De Line, director Martin Campbell and the studio each had different favorites which made it difficult to agree on any one choice.

The film?s budget isn?t finalized but Warner Bros is hoping to begin shooting in January, hoping to have the films in theaters for the previously announced June 17th 2011 release date. Last we heard, Warners was planning to shoot the film at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney (to take advantage of tax rebates), with a budget of around $150 million.

Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is set to helm the project based on a screenplay by Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Eli Stone), Marc Guggenheim (Law & Order, Eli Stone) and Michael Green (Smallville, Heroes). The Green Lantern character was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16, published in July 1940. The Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives him control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it.

What do you think of the choice of Ryan Reynolds? He certainly looks the part and has the right physique for the role. He?s very likable and charismatic actor who has been stuck in a bunch of bad films, but I definitely like the choice ? especially over Justin Timberlake. But I?m wondering how this may effect Marvel/Fox?s preliminary plans to have him play Deadpool in a stand-alone film.

I'm so glad that Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto didn't get the part. Both aren't fit for superhero movies. I think that Bradley Cooper is a better choice. I'm sure Ryan Reynolds can do the Green Lantern role justice, like he did with Deadpool. But it's going to be weird to see Ryan Reynolds both as Deadpool and the Green Lantern.

...why are they both not fit for superhero movies?

I thought Reynolds would have been great as wisecracking The Flash. Isn't GL supposed to be kind of uptight and military like?

I thought he would've made a great Flash too, actually. That was the first role I saw him in. But he fits Deadpool perfectly, too.

GL is kind of uptight I suppose you could say, and yes, military like. He's an Air Force pilot.

When I think of Ryan Reynolds, I also think of Deadpool. I figure it won't be too bad to see him in both roles. Especially if he can change his acting style to match the personalities of the characters. Personally though, I would've preferred Nathan Fillion (Malcolm Reynolds/Firefly).

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
