Will Ryan Reynolds? superhero costume in Green Lantern look anything like this recently posted piece of concept art?

Comic artist Jason Palmer posted the following message to his Deviant Art blog last week:

?Hello all, Been busy with, among other things, two movies each based on DC comic characters (one has a scar, one has a ring) I?ll share with you when I can.?

If Palmer?s claims are legit, he is working on concept art for the movie adaptations of Jonah Hex and Green Lantern.

Things get a bit more interesting as the image above was uploaded to his Deviant Art portfolio, included with the following description:

?I did some work for the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I can?t show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf, but was strangely not included in the submission. Oh well. For this art, I didn?t use costume designs or Reynolds ref that was provided by WB, so I can share it with you. ?

Again, we can?t confirm Palmer?s claims, and it seems odd that he would post artwork relating to the movie if he was officially working on the production. The whole thing smells fishy. What do you think? Would someone working on the film be stupid enough to post anything remotely connected with the production? Seems unlikely. Either way, Palmer admits in the post that he didn?t use ?costume designs or Reynolds ref that was provided by WB? for the art above.

SuperHeroHype reports that "The Closer" star Jon Tenney will play Hal Jordan's dad, test pilot Martin H. Jordan, in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern.

"Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father. I'm Hal Jordan's dad. I'm very excited ? it's incredible company," he told the site. For more of what he said about the role, go here.

Exclusive: Green Lantern?s Suit Will Be CG

Why not?

Well, because there isn?t a suit.

No suit?

That?s right. No suit. When I was first told this info, I didn?t believe it. I actually didn?t even consider it as a real possibility. But the information I?m about to reveal has since been backed up by two other independent sources. I stand by this information 150% ? this is legit. I risk my reputation on it. Ready for it? Okay?

The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. I?ve heard that Ryan Reynolds has been joking on set that Warner Bros is going to make him into a Na?vi when the final cut is released. His joke, not mine. The Green Lantern suit you will see in the final film will be almost entirely created using computers.

That?s right ? Green Lantern?s suit will be mostly CG!

Wait, stop?

I said STOP. Comic book fanatics should not freak out just yet?

My source within Warner Bros assures me that the suit will look cool. Don?t let the words ?Computer generated? scare you.

I must first remind you that Ngila Dickson, the costumer designer on the film has won an Academy Award for a little film called The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Maybe you?ve seen it before? Don?t let her Xena: Warrior Princess roots scare you, she worked on the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Last Samurai (another film which earned her an Oscar nomination), The Illusionist, Blood Diamond and The International. She has an impressive IMDB page, for sure.

Ngila was tasked with trying to find a way to do something that stands apart from all of the other superheroes spandex suit designs we?ve seen in the past. Honestly, isn?t the look becoming overused?

Remember, the Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien ? it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid scene, and the cg also allows him to do this.

I?ve heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power. And while I couldn?t confirm this, I?ve heard that DC?s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has seen the designs and given them his blessing.

The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I?ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes.

Here is some other information I?ve learned about the production:

* That leaked set photo of the silver ship is indeed Abin Sur?s crashed spaceship

* Temura Morrison looks legit as Abin Sur, although his head isn?t as elongated as in the concept art photos leaked awhile back.

* Peter Sarsgaard?s makeup tests with the enlarged head look cool. He has wild hair, kind of like Jason Lee in ?My Name is Earl? and, of course, the kind of traditional Hector Hammond stache.

* I?m told that Reynolds is awesome in the role. He?s knocking it out of the park so far.

* The screenplay that leaked online is a very old draft. I?ve been told that the villains have changed a bit and that the rewritten script is supposedly way better in the end.

not sure this was posted but....here's a video

Green Lantern Movie Interview - Martin Campbell Talks Villains

http://movies.ign.com/dor/objects/40980/green-lantern/videos/greenlantern_campbell_012010.html?download=true

Comic Book Movie had an unofficial set visit, during which they talked to an effects supervisor. They learned that the concept art we posted a while back is official, but early drafts. The logo you've seen in set pics is also an early version, and not the final logo at all. The movie's ring-constructs and other visuals are really designed to look awesome in 3-D. Hal will use a power battery to power his ring, like in the comics (but unlike in the recent animated movie.) And most importantly, Hal will have the all-important domino mask, unlike in that recent concept art. [Comic Book Movie]

Also, DC's Geoff Johns tells Comic Book Resources:

The movie looks fantastic. I'm heading back down to New Orleans in a few weeks, but I just watched the Abin Sur/Hal Jordan dailies, and it's amazing seeing that ring passed to Hal in live action. Abin Sur looks kick-ass.

Sky Showbiz (via Gordon and the Whale) has this pic. Early reports about Sarsgaard being cast pegged him as slightly different from the classic comic version of the character. He?s based more on the Geoff Johns GL stories than the early comic appearances, and was said to be ?the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father?s eyes.?

Hammond comes into contact with the radioactive meteorite in the crashed spacecraft of Abin Sur, the alien who leads Hal Jordan to becoming Green Lantern. The radiation gives Hammond psychic powers but also deforms him. His head is enlarged and, in earlier versions of the comic character, he is paralyzed.

So the pic we?ve got here seems to clearly show Sarsgaard post-deformation. But it?s a photo without proper lighting and without any post-production CGI work (remember that there may be quite a lot of that in Green Lantern) so it isn?t the best way to see the character for the first time.

Film Sypnosis Released

Green Lantern

'Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, ?Green Lantern? stars Ryan Reynolds (?X-Men Origins: Wolverine?) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (?Casino Royale?).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax?he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs ?Green Lantern? from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming ?The Town,? TV?s ?Gossip Girl?) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father?s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (?An Education,? ?Flightplan?) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (?Sherlock Holmes?) as Sinestro, Jordan?s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (?Revolutionary Road?) as Carl Ferris, Carol?s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (?Star Wars? Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan?s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV?s ?The Flight of the Conchords?) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal?s good friend and confidante; Academy Award? nominee Angela Bassett (?What?s Love Got to Do with It?) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award? winner Tim Robbins (?Mystic River?) as Hector?s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (?The Italian Job?) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming ?Life As We Know It?). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

The film?s behind-the-scenes creative team is led by a number of Academy Award? winners, including director of photography Dion Beebe (?Memoirs of a Geisha?), production designer Grant Major (?The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King?), and costume designer Ngila Dickson (?The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King?), as well as Oscar?-nominated editor and longtime Campbell collaborator, Stuart Baird (?Gorillas in the Mist,? ?Superman?). The film?s visual effects are being overseen by Oscar?-nominee Kent Houston (?The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,? ?Casino Royale?).

The film is currently scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011. ?Green Lantern? will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. '

Reynolds 'injured on Green Lantern set'

Ryan Reynolds has reportedly been injured while filming on the set of Green Lantern.

According to US Weekly, the 33-year-old separated his shoulder while shooting an action scene for the movie in New Orleans on Monday.

"[He] is in lots of pain. He's been keeping ice on it," a source said.

A rep for Reynolds did not respond to calls for comment.

The actor was cast in the DC Comics title role last year, winning out over Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto.

The Green Lantern opens in June 2011.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
