Lost - Season 5

Recommended Posts

Yay smokey, only 5 episodes in and this Season looks like its going to stack up as one of the best so far. Its killing me having to wait a week before the next episode, i wish they would put out a DVD/Blu-Ray pack at the start of the season thats like double the price, id gladly pay it so i could watch without delays :(

that certainly was one pants-jizzing episode.

okay someone update me here cuz I havent seen seasons 3 or 4 although I think I kinda know what happens. jack's father being there talking to locke is supposed to be jacob right? or the island using dead people as always to say things to john. but why did he say "say hello to my son" if he wasnt indeed jack's father? unless he was refering to someone else...

and why is it ben that is doing everything that this person said?

Christian is still Christian. He was just 'chosen' by Jacob to speak for him and do what he needs done. He isn't Jacob, he just speaks for him.

and why is it ben that is doing everything that this person said?

What person? Christian? He has never spoken to Christian.

Rebecca Mader Confirms Death

How did the producers break it to you that Charlotte was going to die?

I've known since June of '08, because that's when we negotiate contracts between seasons. Originally when I started on the show in August 2007, I was only supposed to do eight episodes. I ended up doing 20. I was on the show a lot longer than I thought I was going to be. A lot of it has to do with the writers strike. Less episodes in Season 4 meant back stories were compromised for the new people. I think that's why my character carried into Season 5.

And how did you take it?

I was disappointed when I found out. When I got to the end of Season 4 and found out Charlotte had been born on the island, that was huge. So when I found out I was leaving, I was disappointed. Like all things, it's for the best.

How much did they tell you about Charlotte initially?

When I first got the job, I was told nothing about my character. She's an anthropologist and she's tough; she's a female Indiana Jones. That's what I went into the show knowing. That's all I knew all of Season 4, until the very end, when I learned I was originally from the island. I was on a break reading my script, and I said, "Bloody hell!"

It seems like the actors spend a lot of time just walking across the island. True?

[Lots of laughter] Traipsing. It's a lot of traipsing. You have to do it a lot of times. First you walk up the hill, then you go down the hill, then you go back up the hill. By the end of the day, you don't want to be on the hill anymore.

So many people who "die" on the show keep showing up. What's your sense of how likely you are to return?

I may end up coming back in Season 6. Some people say, "You'll be back!" If I'm not, never mind. If they turn around and ask me to come back, I'd be happy to do it.

Fans spend so much time obsessing over the clues on this show. How much time do the actors who make the show spend thinking over the creation of those clues?

[Laughter] I have to be careful how I answer this. I think they're more concerned by what's for lunch.

Episode 5.13 - Some Like it Hoth

Episode 5.14 - The Variable

I wonder how Lost was suppose to turn out if it wasn't for the writer's strike... completely different story, different ending.

The executive producers have stated that they've known the ending for some time. I think since the beginning of Season Two. So the ending is probably still the same. But the stories could have changed. Obviously, they have changed to a degree. If she was only suppose to be on for eight episodes, it is probably safe to assume the original story didn't have Daniel in love with Charlotte. It probably wouldn't have felt as powerful, her dying that is, if she had died only after eight episodes.

So yeah, some stories have changed, but for the most part, the overall storyline hasn't I'd imagine.

Hopefully, maybe, on the sixth season blu-ray discs, they'll have a story featurette and tell us what major changes they did along the way.

Episode 5.13 - Some Like It Hoth

- Leading up to 5.13 Faraday has gone "missing" after exploring the Orchid amongst other things

- In 5.13 he reappears and is seen by Miles

- It's a pretty big reveal, as Daniel's whereabouts and activities have been missing for a while

- We some some some experimental stuff being taken from the Sub

- We see Radzinky and some Dharma Scientists in black uniforms along with Pierre Chang

- Daniel has been busy with something and is the setup for something big to happen

Episode 5.14 - The Variable

- This episode (still in draft production) is a direct follow up from The Constant

- It continues with Desmond's and Daniels adventures

- We get more info on why Daniels notebook statement "Desmond is my Constant"

- This episode starts filming in about 10 days

- The early planning of this episode may explain why Desmond left the army

Another possible theory...

The Black Rock's steering wheel (ship) is the "Donkey Wheel". This can be supported by the lantern used by Locke in the Black Rock and the lantern used by both Ben and Christian down in the Orchid, which appear to be the same models. This might also add to Alpert's longevity. If one of the Black Rock's crew, Alpert, figured out the way survive by traveling back and forth in his original timeline - around the mid 1800s. It would explain why he doesn't age. I just don't buy the notion that Alpert is immortal.

Well... this episode... the temple... Egyptian hieroglyphs ... Richard Alpert and his pharaoh eyes ... makes you wonder

Stargate! heh...

But seriously, makes you think, if his looks (natural eyes) have something to do with his role and didn't Ben got teleported somehow to Egypt?

This ep was win, Supports my thoeries nicely ^-^ only thing that supprised me was Christian Shepard being down by the "Donkey wheel" (We got a real name for it yet ? :p) I thought it would of been richard, I had a tear in my eye when charlotte was dying and faraday was next to her :(

Richard doesn't know about time travel. Or at least when Locke brought it up, Alpert looked very confused about what Locke was saying. I don't think that is it.

I like the theory that he doesn't age because he's one of the island's original inhabitants and they once they reach a certain age, they stop aging. Sort of like Adam Monroe from Heroes, where he stopped aging after so many years. Of course he's immortal and I don't believe that Alpert is.

It is also possible that Alpert is still needed by the island, or Jacob and that's why he doesn't age. The island still needs him for things (like Michael and Locke being kept alive).

But I don't buy that Alpert has been time traveling, not with the confused look on his face when Locke mentioned he was from the future.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
