Lost - Season 5

Amazing episode.

So, the "Rachel" tard from LOST spoiler site was wrong. Desmond Hume wasn't the son of Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking, but Daniel Faraday. So, no incest crap.

Shame no more Daniel though. However, there is a flaw if we take into account the video the fat kid took in the Dharma thing they put together in Comic-Con awhile ago. In that video, Daniel's voice was used in which Dr. Chang knew everything that was about to happen, i.e. the Purge in 1992. So, I'm guessing Daniel will either return as a Ghost or be healed by Richard in order for that video clip to be true post-1977.

I like how they are still keeping the phrase "Whatever Happened, Happened" still a mystery. So, apparently by changing the variables, Daniel believes things can change. But, we know this is false. He died, the Jughead will be set off in order to subdue the EM field that will happen in 4 hours. Since, we know Charlotte leaves and all that... whatever happened, happened. The only significant thing Jack and Company will accomplish is get back to their time, but not change the events that occurred from 1977 to 2004.

It's obvious that Radzinsky will suffer the same neural problem as Daniel because Radzinsky eventually does forgot all the important stuff. But, he will be somewhat "smart" from what Kelvin said about him and of course, drawing blindly with the florescent marker on the blast door. Though, I wonder how they plan to make this happen... the Swan isn't finished and won't be completed in four hours. So, I'm guessing another event will occur probably in Season 6?

Lastly, James and Juliet are captured, I wonder how this will play out. Rescue attempt seems pointless... unless they can explain their way out of it, which I doubt.

I will watch the episode again to find more clues.

So, I am starting to have a vision of how this will all end, however it might be difficult with another whole season left to burn:

1. Jack and Company will eventually get off the island.

2. Jughead will go off and Desmond will never be stuck in the hatch.

3. Oceanic 815 will land peacefully in that hell hole that we all call Los Angeles.

How this all fits into the time-travel concept and the rest, I don't yet know.

Does anyone else see it heading that way? Or are JJ, Damon and Carlton going to throw us an even better curve ball?

I think Daniel's theory was shot down when his mom shot him. So, he presumably realized at that instance that nothing can change since his mother (and father) knew all along she (or they) would kill her own son. Also, from the preview...

...it seems Jack will continue heading on Daniel's direction.

That's what I was thinking too :D but I am hoping it'll be something less predictable than that b/c it'd basically render all of the show's action pointless, as it "never happened"...

It's weird, cause how I think is, Eloise did not know the man who held Richard at gunpoint was her son, but it was her destiny to kill him, so know that it was a mistake that had to be made, that is her quest to send her son to the island? If it was free will she would have done everything she could to not send him on that journey. I'm lost.

After watching that amazing episode, all I have to say is...can I get a Ralph Wiggum my brain hurts picture please? Crazy, head spinning stuff! What a ridiculously brilliant show!! I think at the end of every episode, Criss Angel should show up and scream Mindfreak! Eventually he'd get killed off, cause I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy that.

what i don't get is how is it that when Daniel left the island the first time (that is...once sawyer, julliette, miles and Jin settled in with dharma) he left the island on the sub and entered the 70's off island but how is this possible when the island is one period of time and a different one off island (meaning the year on the island doesn't affect what year it is off island)? for example, when the oceanic 815 crashed the survivors discovered that on the island, it was the year 1996 (courtesy of episode "the constant") but it was not 1996 off island. furthermore, once the oceanic 6 left the island they went back to the future (not 1996 but the "present" time) to 2004, i think...

anyways, my point is we've learned that whatever time it is on the island, has nothing to do with what time it is off island but has this been debunked by daniel saying he was off at dharma headquarters doing some research? i just don't see how that's possible...yet...i mean the fact that there's two simultaneous time lines occurring on the island is messed but based on what we've seen, it doesn't affect the timeline off island. in other words, Daniel should have entered the year 2007 and not the 70's...

Help, please!!!!

i feel like everytime i watch a lost episode i get mind f****d, curbed stomped and an*l raped...god i love this show!!!

Is the video considered cannon?

I recall theorizing that Daniel and Penny were siblings, just not sure if I did it here or while talking about it with my wife.

I think the video is considered a cannon.

Great episode, loved the whole Time, Density and changing the past/future, awesome :D Wasn't expecting that at all, Daniel Faraday was one of my favourite characters :(

Loved Sawyer's nicknames for him, Twitchy and H.G.Wells

Dont forget Daniel was on the zodiac ferrying people to the freighter, maybe he was caught when the island jumped and jumped back with everyone else but was then adrift and got rescued and then taken back to mainland and it took him 3 years to get enrolled with Dharma and ultimately came back to the island.

Did we learn before how/why Eloise left the island?

And how was Daniel responsible for Ben shooting Desmond? It was Daniel who tried to stop the chain of events that led to Desmond crashing Oceanic 815 which led to Jack disable the jammer which led to Charles Widmore sending the freighter which led to Keamy killing Alex leading Ben to hunt down Penelope. Or was it Daniel's plan of detonating Jughead that set the wheel in motion for these events to occur?

It's weird, cause how I think is, Eloise did not know the man who held Richard at gunpoint was her son, but it was her destiny to kill him, so know that it was a mistake that had to be made, that is her quest to send her son to the island? She believes in Destiny. Remember back to the talk she had with Desmond. It will be pointless in trying to prevent something that happened. Carlton and Damon already said they won't be tackling that question.

"We have always known what the very end of this series will be," Lindelof continues. "We are going to present the audience with the empirical answers to these questions ? the questions that we care about and that we feel are really important to understand in order to give the show the necessary closure. We will not be cutting to black as a Journey song plays
But as for the grander questions Lost raises ? you know, does free will win out over destiny? ? these sort of larger thematic questions can't be answered by a single show, and we certainly wouldn't have the hubris to try.

Daniel Faraday left sometime in 1974, went to University of Chicago in Ann Arbor to study with the Dharma heads and returned back in 1977. The time difference inside the Island snowglobe and the rest of the World isn't that different. Daniel Faraday already did a test and confirmed the difference was around 30-40 minutes[/b]es.

for example, when the oceanic 815 crashed the survivors discovered that on the island, it was the year 1996 (courtesy of episode "the constant") but it was not 1996 off island. furthermore, once the oceanic 6 left the island they went back to the future (not 1996 but the "present" time) to 2004, i think...

No, they were in 2004. The time travel theory[/b]ry you got that from is false. Plenty of proof already given in the show that theory is wrong.

anyways, my point is we've learned that whatever time it is on the island, has nothing to do with what time it is off island but has this been debunked by daniel saying he was off at dharma headquarters doing some research? i just don't see how that's possible...yet...i mean the fact that there's two simultaneous time lines occurring on the island is messed but based on what we've seen, it doesn't affect the timeline off island. in other words, Daniel should have entered the year 2007 and not the 70's...

I don't see the confusion. Daniel Faraday was stuck in 1974 when the flashes stopped, so when he left to go off Island, it will still be 1974. He then got onto the submarine in 1977 from outside the Island to come back to the Island.

After the first watch I think my love for this show is maybe dying but that being said I will give the episode another watch because in a show that I have been watching this long I can't just let it go....but I was not sold by last night :(

Yeah im getting sick of the marketing department coming up with a load of crap for the synopsis' for each episode, i read a synopsis that Daniel would come clean about the secrets of the island, all he did was told us what we already knew that Desmond not pushing the button brought 815 down.

I did enjoy some Daniel backstory though.

Hopefully the incident will put everyone back in their proper timeframes, with maybe the exception of Locke who will stay in the past and lead the others and he will end up being Jacob probably.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
