Microsoft is turning to a new spokesman to drum up interest in its Windows Vista operating system: Jerry Seinfeld.

The comedian will star alongside Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates in a series of ads meant to counter the popular notion that Vista is a failure, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Jerry will probably not seek the advice of George Costanza, who failed miserably at selling computers. (Serenity now!)

"Yada yada yada buy Vista!"

Ooooooooooor:

"JERRY: Can't be done, huh?

Bill: The Switch?

JERRY: "The Switch."

Bill: Can't be done.

JERRY: I wonder.

Bill: Do you realize in the entire history of western civilization no one has

successfully accomplished the OS switch? In the Middle Ages you

could get locked up for even suggesting it!

JERRY: They didn't have OS's in the Middle Ages."

They could do some brilliant stuff I reckon :p

i dont find jerry funny at all, but "might" boost the vista's popularity...

Are you telling me that you can watch any of his stand up shows (lets take the first YouTube search result for example: link) and not laugh at all?

Ah it won't matter. We all know the Vista bashers are mostly mindless morons who either:

A) Never used it at all

B) Never used it for more than an hour

C) Got a computer pre-bundled with Vista and blamed the OS for being slow instead of the 20-odd programs that also came pre-installed on it

D) Are basing their opinions on random blogs made in late 2006

+1

or there own crappy programs that built for win 98

For those that are watching him with a Mac in the TV show, Microsoft could always make it to the point of him switching back to Vista. (if you are worried about that)

I would imagine him doing more of a "testimonial" of how he has used windows to write his scripts, or his other comedy work. Something along those lines in at least one or two of the ads. Perhaps a few comedy skits as well.

Just dug up the season of the show to check your saying, and yeah. It's defiantly a Mac

Just about every show/movie I've seen includes a Mac of some sort. I can still remember ID4 and the subsequent Apple commercials (I think it was for the PB 5300ce, which was an absolute POS IIRC).

Macs do look nice, and are instantly recognizable, compared to most PC towers (other than some of the newer HPs, I find them all very ugly, and I can't see most shows/movies using DIY Lian Li or Cooler Master builds).

Edit: here's the Apple ID4 ad:

You forgot E) Comes with only 512 megs of ram WITH onboard video so now they only have 448 megs of ram

Can't wait. Finally some funny ads :D !

Not sure I would count on "funny"...

The concept behind the Seinfeld ads will be "Windows, Not Walls," which involves "break[ing] down barriers that prevent people and ideas from connecting," according to Microsoft.
