I have to agree with what's been written there, but I think they're looking to slowly roll characters from; Scared, emotionally fragile and putting on a brave face to more solid positions and who they really are over the course of the start of the season. Much as we'd all love to think we'd rise above it all in a situation I can see where they are trying to go and some of the males are just as maladjusted in some of these early episodes, some are jittery as hell.

Either way it really doesn't do them any favors how they are portraying the women in the series.

MioTheGreat - got me there, I still think there's a reason behind no hyper drive and not just technical limitation.

Actress Julia Benson just started blogging and Twittering, and she addresses the uproar surrounding Stargate Universe's last episode, which many claim went a little nuts with the breast happy camera angles, "for all the talk about my natural (and believe me they are 100%) assets I promise you that there is much more to my character. Who knew that a tank top could cause such a stir. Our show is about people and people have sexuality. The creators are not exploiting it, they are exploring it. That is what writers, actors and directors do. " [JBO]

I  all things Stargate. Stargate SG-1 may just be my favorite show ever.

However, even I have to admit I'm getting annoyed at how everyone involved in Stargate Universe seems to be using the line "this show is about people." The creators, the producers, the cast and the crew. I get it, the show is different. But can't someone say something else about it?

Sometimes it comes across so condescending and insulting to the previous series and the original fans. The SGU cast interviews had a few of the cast members blatantly proclaim how this show is more engaging and how this series has characters, depth, etc. whereas the previous series didn't. A few of the new actors came across as very arrogant. Then again, marketing affects everything. :hmmm:

All in all, I'm really enjoying SGU. I just wish they weren't so ready to hype and promote the show by coming across as arrogant and labeling the previous series as inferior in some way(s). :/ Doesn't really matter though. I'm enjoying the show, I don't really care about anything else around it.

and there I was thinking the show was about the Stargate. I want love the show but it's not happening atm :(

 Exactly. It's still based in the Stargate universe, no pun intended, but the creators and writers seem to want to distance themselves at the same time. Obviously their goal is to make the previous fans a part of the show yet attract new viewers at the same time. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

I'm sure they'll use the Stargate as a story/ plot device later. I'm enjoying the ride right now anyway. I just hate when the same line is used by everyone involved in something. ;)

Been thinking about this and the way the show has been made. Previously obviously with SG1 etc we had "episodes" with months or days in between each. However on SGU because it is a different format and indeed show; we're seeing things in real time as and when they happen. The crew were thrust into this situation and we're watching it develop instead of one week its the lights, the next week its the water etc. Instead things happen, they're finding their feet and before we get to the "old fashioned" Stargate style we get to enjoy the way the episodes are playing out.

Can't wait for tonight's show - does anyone know if theres one of those stupidly long 3 week breaks coming up? My worry is that would kill it so early on and with so many people seemingly still on the bench over it.

Previous Stargate's were about exploring and new worlds, enemies, technology ect. Universe is more about the people themselves so I can see why they describe it like that. And the realtime is nice, however Atlantis was pretty close to real time in its first season, not many long breaks between episodes. Although its harder to tell than in Universe.

that was the great part of the esp, i have no problem with, and would love to see of her!

Fantastic episode, finally they catch a break and I look forward to what a fully powered Destiny is like. The slow progress at first had me annoyed since I was so used to SG1 episodes and Atlantis especially where they discovered everything seemingly in the pilot. Its good that Rush said that they're back where they started - which is right!

Now that power isnt an issue and they've all addressed their own mortalities its time to move the story itself on a bit and start exploring the ship. Remember we haven't even seen the main bridge area yet! Just a small science room.

10/10 this week.

I like the music alot...it really does fit the show, good thing out of the way now. I have to admit I didn't see the way the ship woud recharge coming, a nice twist, and the plot twist at the end was unexpected but interesting, other than that except for the last what 5 minutes of the show, everything before that was a waste to me.

I really hope they get rid of the Senator's daughter because her character adds nothing to the show at all. Everytime she's in a scene I feel like fast forwarding. It's really hard not to notice that every scene she has, she's hanging on some guy's arm either Eli or the Lt., but yet we're suppose to think of her as a strong female character

It was good they decided to flesh out the arrogant solider's character a little more.
