for me, if i need to watch/ listen to a pod cast to enjoy a show, the show is too weak to stand alone...

I'm sorry, but that is quite possibly the dumbest and most narrow-minded thing i've read on here in quite some time. Quite often producers and directors and writers go on podcasts to give more background to stuff they couldnt extrapolate in the main 45min episode. To be honest if theres a podcast for something I like then I'll leap on it as quickly as possible - for this same reason I love special features or extras on dvds - they provide a wealth of information and more often than not give greater depth to the show that people might otherwise have ignored.

So to expect completness in a 45min show that alot of folks apparently dont like anyway is simply stupid and would hold back the media business for years. Quite simply; you dont like it then bog off and go watch Glee or something.

thats quite possibly the rudest thing i've heard in quite some time...

the amount of pointless crap they stick in that show and the only thing holding it together is the not knowing who is up to what... if there was something important enough that the viewer must watch extra podcasts to know whats going on then thats just bad production and editorials. pod casts should be left for interesting additional information etc - not for core story details and pivotal information...

they are trying to do LOST... but in space.... and use the stargate name to get an existing fan base rather than a new one.

edit: and for the record i dont like it like i liked the other SG but i do really want to...

Just wanted to add, that, i have been following this show from the beginning. I have not seen much of the old shows though, but nevertheless, this show can stand on it's own easely.

I really like it, but the last eps was really crazy.... cannot wait for the next to see wtf happend! (no spoilers i know :))

they have gone on record to say that if people want anything remotley SG this season they will be dissapointed...

on the off chance - if anything good does happen, like a good plot, cool tech or aliens etc then please post so i can start watching again... atm i have a feeling that SGU wont get more than 2 seasons :(

Just to clarify in case you misunderstood - the Gateworld.net podcasts are not official podcasts in any way and are only dicussions about the episodes by the two guys who run the site. They do on occasion interview stars and writers/producers from the various SG series of course, but not on the podcasts.

They explained that in the show, the Goa'uld picked planets that closely resembled earth when they seeded other planets with humans from earth so it would match up.

Actually it's more like - the Ancients seeded planets that were similar to Earth so Humans could evolve on them...more or less. They put Stargates on these similar planets to Earth so they themselves could go to them, etc. The Goa'uld came along and realized that all these planets that are linked by Stargates have Humans on them, let's exploit them and use them as hosts instead of those weirdo aliens Daniel Jackson loved so much lol

wasnt the entire premise of the SG1 about the fact that the ancients made humans on earth and put the stargates on other plannets then ascended,

a long time later the gould came along and abducted people from all over earth to put on other planets as slaves....

i dont think the ancients put humans on all the planets that they are on, the gould did the scattering of humans..

as for the pod casts, thanks for the clarification, although i still think that, official or not, if you need somthing extra to make the show make sense and work things out (apart from expanding on cool/ interesting but not pivotal areas) then the show is clearly missing something. i know its not easy to fit things in to 45 mins but after you've watched an episode of SGU you gont exactly think to yourself 'wow so much happened in that 45 mins'. a fair few episodes have had pretty much nothing happen.

I think you're missing the point of the podcasts. They're not to fill in the gaps, they're simply to discuss the episodes, say what they liked and didn't like about them and to make educated guesses about the story arc and future episodes. Basically it's just fans talking about the show and is really no different to what goes on here in this and the other TV threads.

As for me, I like it. I enjoy the drama aspect. I like finding out about all the characters, it makes them more interesting and a lot more believable. To me they already feel like old friends, like I've "known" them for years. It's brilliant. I appreciate that it's not a lot of Sci-Fi at the moment, but I'm sure they're building up to that.

SyFy Renews SGU for a 2nd Season!

Syfy is expanding its commitments to "Stargate: Universe" and "Sanctuary," granting both shows another season.

"Universe" just aired its freshman midseason finale. The show's hiatus will extend until April, and then season two will debut in the fall, along with a third season of "Sanctuary."

Both Friday night shows have commenced production on their next seasons in Vancouver and have received 20-episode orders. "Sanctuary" has averaged 2.2 million viewers this fall when 7-day DVR data is included, "Universe" has averaged 2.6 million.

Full Q&A with "Universe" executive producer Robert Cooper below:

Debuting after the conclusion of Syfy's critically acclaimed "Battlestar Galactica" and the cancellation of "Stargate: Atlantis," "Universe" has charted a tricky course through the network's fandom.

With a fall finale cliffhanger than left the ethically compromised Dr. Rush (Robert Carlyle) stranded on a planet, executive producer Robert Cooper says the second half of the season will become more serialized and build on the fractures within the show's group of spaceship-trapped castaways.

"The implications of leaving Rush on the planet, the real division that will cause amongst the crew, the judgment of those characters and their actions are going to have a big impact on the show," Cooper says. "We have a lot of things planned for the second half of the season, which will be much more serialized."

The show also plans to have more scenes set on the ship (as opposed to cutting to drama back on Earth) and will introduce a full-bodied alien into the show.

"There is a big story point coming up that does introduce an alien race," Cooper says. "It's more along the line of a "District 9"-type alien. Our interaction is handled in a very "Universe" way -- they're not the typical "Stargate" alien bad guys."

Good news about renewal of Universe and Sanctuary as well! :) (Y) The last episode of Universe was not too bad, I wasn't surprised when they ditched Rush (he's been asking for it since the beginning) hopefully he doesn't come back but I suspect (predictably) he will, however, I think it would be more interesting if he didn't (as it would add an edge to the show, showing even "main" character aren't immune to been left behind).

The best thing they could have done for the SG-verse, was give the entire thing a complete break for a couple of years before bringing another spin off show. Otherwise, they're going to end up doing to Stargate what Berman did to Star Trek.

Hell, SG-1 went on a couple of seasons too long. It should have ended at season 8, as without O'Neill, it just wasn't Stargate SG-1 anymore.

I'm just glad they killed it before any more escapee's from Farscape arrived... :p Not that I hated Farscape, but really.. Both lead actors ending up playing off each other again? You might as well have just moved in Kar Dargo and the muppets and be done with it...

Are you kidding? Of course he is going to come back, one of the better main characters. Though it would be quite awesome if he was gone for 2 or 3 episodes, and then they do some episode where it gets back on bored some crazy way.

Awesome news! :)

And wait a minute, Stargate Universe is only just airing in Australia? :o

No, it aired on Sci-Fi here a week after the states (they didn't change their name down under) but for those who don't have (or want) PayTV, they can now watch it on free-to-air :)

Nope, can't stand the guy! it's obvious his interests don't concern the safety of the crew and it's clear he is up to something, what I have no idea.

So, the ship at the end which Rush was looking at...

It looked a lot like the missing shuttle to me. Anyone know more?

You could be on to something there, if I recall that shuttle belongs to a race of aliens we'll see in the second half of the season (they aren't friendly either), since they got off the Destiny they obviously can get back on again. I'm guessing it's possible Rush might even come back with them somehow (either as a prisoner or sneaks on the ship). Obviously this is pure speculation and most likely is 100% wrong!

well I finally got around to watching the last episode and don't really know how to feel. When they first advertised this show they featured Rush as the leader of the expedition and as the main guy..now as the show progresses, they make him out to be the 2nd slot main caster behind Young. I look at this "cliffhanger" 2 different ways neither of which entertains me.

If Rush is a main character that pretty much will never be killed off the show then all this has been a distraction since we know he's going to have to come back to the ship in some form and it has to be a form where he's on the show every episode and not just guest starring every 5. The other option is that they somehow kill him off in the end, which if they do will make me stop watching the show. Absolutely none of the other characters on this show interest me in any fashion except Rush. Eli is on the radar but he's more annoying than interesting to me, so if they got rid of Rush there's literally zero reason for me to watch the rest of the cast since they are all so dull on the screen IMO.

I know people have said things about episodes that haven't broadcast yet and I personally don't look ahead to episodes as I like to maintain some sense of suprise so going based on what we've seen and basing predictions off that it would be a huge mistake to get rid of his character.

    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.

    • Owing to the nature of Windows feature enablement updates, it was distributed over Windows Update services as a complete system upgrade rather than as an ordinary cumulative update
    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2, urges IT admins to prepare for release by Usama Jawad Windows 11 typically follows an annual update cycle, but Microsoft recently broke that tradition a bit by releasing a "26H1" version in the first half of this year as a "scoped" build for select new silicon PCs only. This version was not available for customers using 24H2 and 25H2 builds, as Microsoft is busy preparing version 26H2 for them, confirmed officially for the first time. In a Windows IT Pro blog, Microsoft has urged IT admins to prepare for the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H2. The company has confirmed that this will be a small enablement package (eKB) that will simply light up certain disabled features that are already present in the operating system's code base. This means that the "refined" Windows update and deployment experience will be simpler and quicker, with minimal disruptions, as the feature update will simply toggle a few flags rather than performing a complete replacement. Microsoft has explained that this is all possible because the standard Windows 11 releases share the same servicing branch and hence, the same source code. However, this also means that Windows 11 26H1 users won't be able to upgrade to 26H2 as that is a different branch, but this is something we have known for a while now. Similar to previous annual feature updates, Windows 11 26H2 will offer the following support cycles: 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro EDU, and Pro for Workstations editions 36 months of support for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-session editions Microsoft has not confirmed a concrete release date for Windows 11 26H2, but noted that it is "coming soon". If we go by the ongoing release cadence, we can expect it to begin rolling out in early October 2026. As such, IT admins have been encouraged to begin validating Windows Insider releases in the Experimental Channel, plan rollout rings, and strategize the utilization of their existing deployment tools.
