Abit Exits Motherboard Market

Recommended Posts

I used Abit boards exclusively for many years, but switched from Abit to MSI after my last Abit board ended up being crap; I built two systems with that board, one for a friend and one for myself. I had no issues, but my friend did. I donated my board to another friend when it was time to upgrade to socket 939, and they had nothing but problems with it. I wasn't very surprised by this, as it was the first socket 754 motherboard on the market; there were bound to be issues that even a bios update couldn't cure. I was after something a little more stable and a little less cutting-edge. For a while after that I used MSI religiously (and would still recommend them). When it was time for my AM2+ build I was after a very specific feature set. I again looked at Abit, but they just didn't offer what I wanted, yet. I got a Gigabyte because they were the closest I could find. I am so pleased with the Gigabyte board that I have built 4 systems with them and they all seem to be performing wonderfully. Periodically I still check Abit's offerings to see if they have something better; they are always one step ahead of the competition and very forward-looking. Apparently now I'll never get that dream motherboard I was after, at least not from Abit, and that's a shame. They were a great mobo manufacturer, in general, but I can't say I'm shocked by this news. After all, if I switched away from them for the last 4 years or so how can I be shocked that others have done the same?

I used to swear by Abit. They used to do quality products and also seemed to be the first to include a fancy new technology onto their motherboards. Shame they're going. I decided not to go with Abit on my Core2Duo build mainly due to the fact that, at the time they didn't have a motherboard with the chipset i wanted on it.

My brother still uses and old one of theirs. The first board to support that iGuru chip. He has never had a problem with it.

That's messed up, Abit is one of the best mobo makers out there. When shopping for motherboards, I trusted 3 brands: Asus, Abit and Epox. I don't know what Epox's doing nowadays but their motherboards used to be overclockable like hell. I've considered Abit as an equal to Asus as far as stability and especially overclocking goes. Sometimes they had better boards than Asus, sometimes the other way around.

What a bummer, my dad is still running my old NF7-S board. Has run like a chap since day one and is still kicking.

I love that board. I use to run that before I upgraded to my current setup. I was hoping to make Abit my next motherboard to buy because I'm not that happy with this Asus board I have now. This makes me sad. They made some good motherboards.
