AMD Phenom FX-80 {4.0Ghz} and FX-82 {4.4Ghz}

So how does the Phenom compare to current Core 2 Quads?

clock for clock, they should be about the same. So if AMD really can crank the Deneb clock to over 4GHz, that means they are back to game, which is a good thing.

Of course Intel will have Nehalem, and hopefully AMD will again bring the price down, that means cheaper Nehalem too ;)

I bet they will be too expensive to matter though even if they are real. :(

But it also means that there will be better overclocking potential for the lower-range Deneb's, bringing them to at least equal grounds to Penryn C2Q's.

AMD is back baby! 4.0GHz processors, Intel will be blown out of the water for a couple of quarters.

well, with Penryn C2Q's already overclocking to 4GHz easily, I doubt they'll be blown out of the water. But if AMD can continue its aggressive pricings with Deneb's (without going bankrupt that is), it will surely be a great news for us consumers :)

youre joking, right ?

well of course you are

nobody would really think something like that

I mean my cocker spaniel even knows the 4870 was just a blip in a sea of problems...

the fact they are going back to higher clocks is because they have already failed at creating any decent architecture...

I think its a last ditch error I mean the Board of Directors are about to clean house, the company isnt worth as much as it paid for ATi, they are losing more and more ground to intel by playing catch-up.... they're screwed.

Phenom - joke

4x4 - joke

Spyder platform - joke

x2 dual core platform - joke

most experts say Nehalem will simply be the nail in the coffin

and intel without any competition in the microprocessor field isnt a good thing for consumers

it kinda takes the teeth out of the animal

Can't beat them for price though X2 cheap as chips and still powerful compared to intel. For price of Core 2 quad Q9300 or Q6600 locally i got a 5600+ 2.8GHz dual core + 3870 graphics card for less then the intel cpu alone. most people are paying premium for "power" which probably generally speaking goes unused or isn't needed

Are you saying the Athlon X2 processors are a joke? When they came out they ****ing wiped the floor with intel's Pentium D. And AMD's processors are still competitive in the low-mid end, you can get a X2 5000+ (Black edition) for 59 dollars, show me an intel at that price that will outperform that. Intel does currently have the performance crown, but not all of AMD's processors are "bad" or a "joke"

.. you're the failure by excellence mate.

Last time I checked intel was putting a memory controller inside their silicon. Read up where that comes from.

..

Atom? Read up on Athlon64 2000+ for power consumption.

..

Performance per watt? Ask most corporate environments.

..

AMD could be out of the gaming scene (for a while at least) but thats not where the money comes from.

..

oh, and buying ATI was probably the best thing they could have done. Especially now that's where most of their revenue comes from.

..

Spider a joke?? At least I can pronounce the word. Try with ViiV. Same type of joke.

I'm running a CROSSBONE X2 @ 2.1Ghz and it can handle everything I throw it, Adobe Master Collection CS3, Office 2K7, Visual Studio 2008 all on Vista Ultimate SP1.

for $59 I was very impressed, and this thing is so quiet!

I'm waiting to get a 8600GT so I can do some gaming. I use my 360 for the most graphically intense games out there.

I wouldn't call the X2 platform a joke.. at all.

I think marketing departments just lead you to believe you need some kind of extreme edition chip to run any software you through at it. In reality, the higher end chips only show their worth in a few applications..many of which normal desktop users will not use. Normal "budget" chips will run anything.

Also, slight pet peeve..but the fan is quiet. Processors don't really make noise..

You should've heard my Dad's P4 Northwood. That thing is like a jet when it boots and the gpu didn't even have any fans.
