Google Chrome Browser

Excellent. The more browsers, the better!

Microsoft will have more pressure to deliver better versions of IE

Mozilla will feel more pressure to better optimize Firefox with memory usage

The guys at Opera will feel the pressure to.... I'm not sure actually, Opera's pretty good versus vanilla Firefox and IE.

Apple will feel the pressure to force installs of Safari by surprise using their Apple Update Software

http://gears.google.com/chrome/ still goes to the google homepage for me even with gears installed.

Wow! I just read theor whole comic strip. this looks amazing!

They are talking all the good features from other browsers and implementing them in chrome

Speed dial from opera + tabs on top

Private browsing from ie and safari

sandboxing from ie

separate tab processes from IE

Same js virtual machine concept currently being used in ff 3.1

can't wait to try it

The browser will include a JavaScript Virtual Machine called V8, built from scratch by a team in Denmark, and open-sourced as well so other browsers could include it. One aim of V8 was to speed up JavaScript performance in the browser, as it?s such an important component on the web today.

Does that mean Google Chrome will not be using the JavaScriptCore part of WebKit?

Google also say they?re using a ?multi-process design? which they say means ?a bit more memory up front? but over time also ?less memory bloat.? When web pages or plug-ins do use a lot of memory, you can spot them in Chrome?s task manager, ?placing blame where blame belongs.?

LOL, so now Goog:p is copying M$ :p Anyway this is really funny when you think about it, back in the IE6 days when each new IE instance launched uses a separate process, the "single-process design" of tabbed browser was the fashionable thing, with advantages ranging from resource saving to tidying up the process list. But now it seems to come to a full circle, where "multi-process design":laugh:s triumphantly

Google Chrome will use special tabs. Instead of traditional tabs like those seen in Firefox, Chrome puts the tab buttons on the upper side of the window, not below the address bar.

Um... I don't know what's special in that...

It wont download for me. I guess a lot of people are trying it out :p

Can someone post a link to download? Please? :)

Just takes me to the Google search page. Is there a direct link?

I wasn't aware that you could download it, as of yet?

Except google embraces open source.

I don't see what that has to do with anything. Care to elaborate?

If Linux was the major operating system of choice and used its power in the operating system market to leverage itself into other markets, it would be a monopoly. How does open source have anything to do with it? It doesn't hurt them by any means, and it just means that they won't have to abide by the code opening rulings that Microsoft did (to see if Microsoft gained an unfair advantage in secret APIs and programming methods, if I remember correctly), but that wasn't the only slight against Microsoft.

I was using it on your comparison of them as a "new microsoft" who have different software practices. (not on the monopoly bit)

My fault, I should have elaborated in that I only meant in the monopoly sense, not in that they did everything exactly alike.

    • Server Summit had a heap of announcements, ADCS changes are baller.
    • Nice, hope they *finally* fixed the issue with the NTFS driver where the system would completely brick during large file copies using the built in driver. It's been broken for years requiring me to use the older, slower, NTFS-3G FUSE driver.
    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues. • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
