Shooting this fall?

Dan Aykroyd has revealed that Ghostbusters 3 may begin shooting this autumn.

The 56-year-old, who co-wrote and starred in the '80s comedies, revealed in an online chat to The Boston Globe that Office writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg had started working on a script for the sequel.

Aykroyd said: "Script commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009."

It has been rumoured that original cast members Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Aykroyd will reprise their roles in the sequel and hand over the ghostbusting reigns to a younger team.

The first Ghostbusters, released in 1984, grossed $292 million at the worldwide box office and was followed by a sequel in 1989.

Judd Apatow is in Charge of GB3

Judd Apatow's name has been attached the rumors about Ghostbusters 3 since they first began, with all reports saying he would be the producer for the film written by The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky. Now the production has gotten so close to actually happening that Production Weekly is listing it-- and wouldn't you know, Apatow Productions is right there in charge.

Sure, it's not huge news-- we could probably have assumed from the first rumor that Apatow would be involved, given that he's the reigning demi-god of comedy. But the inclusion in Production Weekly means the whole thing is actually happening, beyond just Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray getting asked awkward questions about the project's status. No actor names are attached to the Production Weekly piece, but at this point, it seems like only a matter of time before the gentlemen prepare to suit up a third time.

This would be awesome. They dont need Bill Murray for the part anyway. They should do it like some of the actors from previous films are called upon for advice by new ghostbusters to help with a ghost or something.

So little parts for them especially Dan Akroyd.

Seann William Scott would be great in place of Bill Murray.

About time-- I remember the original GB but then they waited too long before GB2. The only thing fresh and new was a cartoon. Though what they should do is create a second counter company that does not know what they are doing to cause a ghost melt down. By now though if the actor does not want to act they can cgi him in there and soon they will be a way to get the voice of the actor without them having to do a thing but collect royalties.

It's Confirmed - No Judd Apatow for Ghostbusters 3!

Earlier this week, a rumor that Ghostbusters 3 had become a Judd Apatow Production started spreading. I didn't write about it because I just didn't believe it, or at least, I didn't trust Production Weekly. Well, the LA Times talked with Columbia Pictures' president Doug Belgrad and got an official "it's not true" today. It was confirmed last year that "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were writing a script, as Belgrad mentions, but he says Judd isn't involved. "Judging from the frenzy [online], there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we're certainly taking that as a good sign."

It's not the end of the world if Judd Apatow isn't involved with Ghostbusters 3. That was all just wishful thinking to begin with, anyway. Oddly enough, when we first ran the rumor about a sequel/reboot of Ghostbusters being in the works, the response was almost entirely negative. But when Eisenberg and Stupnitsky got on board, it made some people optimistic. Of course, it would've been great to see Apatow do this, but just because he's not involved doesn't mean it'll instantly suck. Plus, the original creative team behind Ghostbusters is involved as informal consultants on this anyway, so why is everyone worried?

I was never worried. I'm looking forward to this film, regardless of who is behind the film. My only concern is that they'll try to do to much with CGI and it'll end up looking like crap.

A major of example of this is Jurassic Park III. It was only TNT over the weekend and I watched it in HD and the dinosaurs were clearly fake. It looked horrible :x Hopefully that doesn't happen here.

MTV was able to get Harold Ramis to talk about the next Ghostbusters movie, which is currently in the development/scripting stage with The Office/Year One scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky working on the script. Ramis has yet to receive a first draft in hand but claims that he has been consulting with the screenwriting duo, along with Dan Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman (who helmed the original film).

The biggest bit of news is that Ramis confirmed that all of the original Ghostbusters will return for the third film if it does happen, and that includes Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman).

?We?re all going to be in it in different kinds of roles,? Ramis said. ?We?re going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters.?ters.?

This confirms previous reports that the original Ghostbusting team would be passing the torch to a new group of scientists turned supernatural exterminators. It will be interesting to see how this develops, and to see if Murray, who Ramis calls ?the thorniest of the group?, actually signs on to participate in the new film.

Sony TV Announces 'Ghostbusters' for iPhone

Fans of the 1984 Ghostbusters franchise have a spectral package of campy '80s goodness floating their way. As Electricpig reports, Sony Pictures Television has just announced an iPhone version of the upcoming X360 / PS3 / Wii game of Ghostbusters. Despite its spotty past, the game is set to arrive in mid-June and will be a shade more picturesque than the '80s Activision Apple II original.

And to fans of the the 8-bit original: you're old. And so are we. It's been 25 years?God help us. But we're in this together, so let's just make the best of it.

Featuring a storyline written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, the '09 release of the game Ghostbusters will effectively be Ghostbusters III, says Aykroyd. Most of the movie's actors have signed on for voice roles, with the notable exception of Rick Moranis, who has retired from acting.

Sony says the Ghostbusters iPhone game will see you playing as the traditional team from the Ghostbusters movies, tackling New York borough by borough, trapping pesky poltergeists and stopping innocent citizens from being slimed. Think Halloween Harry, only with Ghostbusters? Peter Venkman deadpanning it all the way through.

At present, details are scant. There's no indication of the nature of the game's controls or any indication of price point. But, stay tuned?we'll bring more details as they surface and take a frighteningly close look when the game hits the App Store. (After all, I ain't 'fraid of no ghost?)

It has been rumoured that original cast members Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Aykroyd will reprise their roles in the sequel and hand over the ghostbusting reigns to a younger team.

More than anything this is the part that really worries me. They really need to get this spot on. And please, no Seth ****ing Rogen.

I won't be bad I hope. It'd be kind of like Extreme Ghostbusters. But Man.. I believe seeing 8 Ghostbusters firing Proton streams would put a smile on my face.

Harold Ramis Confirms Early Ghostbusters 3 Details

Earlier this week we confirmed that Sony really is moving forward with their plans to make another Ghostbusters movie, and we already know that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky have been working on a script. But what we don't really know yet is what the heck it will be about, especially since we keep hearing early buzz that it might be a complete reboot and feature a younger cast mentored by the older 'busters that we all know and love. Thanks to an update on Entertainment Weekly earlier today, it looks like that is indeed the case. Harold Ramis finally confirmed some early details regarding this newest Ghostbusters.

I'm not sure how or where the EW guys caught up with Ramis (I'm assuming it was for Year One), but here's what he had to say. "They'll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I'm sure. But we'll be in it as mentors or advisers. I think the first one captured something that hadn't been seen for a long time: the combination of scary movies and smart broad comedy." And that "we" he mentions are the original four Ghostbusters: Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Ramis himself. "Everybody said they'd do it," he confirms, but of course, "everyone's gonna have to love the [Ghostbusters III] script to move it forward."

While he wouldn't say much more about the premise, he did drop in this little tidbit at the end: "Now there's a new concept? And it's interesting, beyond the kind of mythology of it, there's a personal story that's pretty grounded." I might argue that the reason the original two were so damn good is because they had that central story about Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver. So obviously they better have some sort of personal story or the fan backlash will be pretty bad if they screw this one up. But don't expect to see this too soon. "Even if there was a great script by the end of the summer, it would be a year before [it would get made.]"

A local band around by me have recorded a "theme tune" for the third movie. Take this with a pinch of salt as the band "pumps" is a side project or their normal band, which appears to be more about comedy than music. (There's a bit of fannying around at the start).

Either way the tune sounds pretty good and I'd like it to be the official tune

At first I was like: WTF?!

But after watching the whole video, I'm actually liking it.
