Rappy Veteran Posted October 2, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted October 2, 2010 "Glee's" Dianna Agron and Moon's Dominique McElligott are the latest two names to be added to the short list for the female lead in Marc Webb's 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, says a report at Deadline, which also tosses in the out-of-left-field rumor that Phillip Seymour Hoffman may be up for the part of Venom. The current list of rumored Spider-Man candidates now includes Alice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska, Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I Am Number Four), Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day) and Emma Stone (Zombieland, Easy A). Though the Hoffman-as-Venom rumor may sound incredulous, it is possible that it is the result of some crossed wired. In the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics, Venom is a scientific creation of Eddie Brock's father who, working with Peter Parker's father, created the suit in an attempt to cure cancer. Though it's pure speculation at this stage, it could be the elder Brock that Hoffman is in talks for. Spider-Man enters production soon and is being targeted for a July 3rd, 2012 release. Rappy Veteran Posted October 2, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted October 2, 2010 Early reports listed Easy A actress Emma Stone, as a candidate for a love interest in the Marc Webb-directed Spider-Man reboot, that would NOT be Mary Jane Watson, who Kirsten Dunst portrayed in Sam Raimi's trilogy. But now Deadline is reporting... "Sony Pictures Entertainment will imminently offer the role of Mary Jane Watson to Emma Stone" Other actresses who were listed as contenders, which include Glee's Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott, will be considered for the role of Gwen Stacy, which Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3. Deadline also says that "Gwen Stacy will be a plum part for the first installment, because she is the first love interest of the high school-aged Peter Parker. And Mary Jane becomes more pivotal in the later installments of the Spidey saga." The rumor of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman portraying Venom, has yet to be confirmed. So with Andrew Garfield set to lead, production is set to begin by the end of the year. And Spider-Man swings back in theaters July 3, next year in 3D. Xero
Hopefully thats a load of bull. Hofffman needs to play Penguin in Nolan's Batman's, not Venom. Although the father-type **** might work... Terry Crews should play Venom. Doesn't even need any CGI, give him some face paint and we're good. Someone needs to photoshop some Venom on this pic  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665838-the-amazing-spiderman-2012/page/17/#findComment-593224152 Share on other sites
Razorwing
I'd rather have Agron over Stone for MJP. As for Hoffman as Venom ... they better totally CG Venom. I want one that is true to the comics.. not this crap 'Spiderman 3' Venom. Rappy Veteran Posted October 6, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted October 6, 2010 Confirmed! Emma Stone to Play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man! Source: Sony Pictures Entertainment October 5, 2010 Emma Stone has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man film film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. Stone has been tapped for the role of Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012. The casting continues an association between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the actress, who previously starred in Superbad, The House Bunny, and Zombieland, all for Columbia Pictures; she may currently be seen in Screen Gems' hit comedy Easy A, and takes a cameo role in Screen Gems' upcoming Friends with Benefits. Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "It's been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma's star rise as an actress. She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill." Webb added, "The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde." Rappy Veteran Posted October 11, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2010 Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) will play the villain, opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, in the next installment of Spider-Man from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012. Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans. After seeing his performance in our upcoming film 'Anonymous,' we're in awe of his talent and think he's the perfect choice to take on this role." The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film. Webb added, "What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character." Spider-Man is being overseen at the studio by Tolmach and Rachel O'Connor. Ifans is represented by United Talent Agency, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Independent Talent Group. Ifans will next appear in Mr. Nice, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Passion Play, and Columbia Pictures' Anonymous, for director Roland Emmerich. Rappy Veteran Posted October 13, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2010 Lizard is Spiderman Baddie! Well, Dylan Baker got screwed. After patiently doing very little in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies as Dr. Curt Connors, a part which was slowly setting up Mr. Baker for a villainous (or dangerous) turn as The Lizard, the actor now has to watch someone else play the role he built. Much speculation has gone down over what character would occupy the villain?s role in Marc Webb?s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, and The Wrap now reports that it will be The Lizard. With Rhys Ifans recently announced as the lead villain in the film, that puts him in the role of a teacher/scientist whose attempt to regenerate his missing arm leads to severe genetic catastrophe. Rather than regrowing an arm, he is turned into a reptilian monster. Mr. Ifans is great for the part, though I was looking forward to seeing how the much more sympathetic Dylan Baker, who was also looking like a mentor figure to Peter Parker in Sam Raimi?s films, would end up playing the character. I?d expect we?ll see a more overtly evil and dangerous version here. The Lizard will face off against Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and perhaps menace Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. Alternate romantic lead Mary Jane Watson is in the film, but an actress hasn?t yet been announced for a role. Here?s a rundown on the Lizard?s basic history from the Marvel wiki: Curt Connors was a gifted surgeon who went into a war to help his country. He performed ?meatball? surgery on wounded GIs, but his arm was injured in a blast and had to be amputated. He eventually became obsessed with uncovering the secrets of reptilian regeneration, and studied reptilian biology extensively. From his home in the Everglades, he finally determined a serum taken from the DNA of a reptile. He had successfully regrown the missing limb of a rabbit, and, despite the warnings of his wife, chose to test it on himself. Connors ingested it, and his arm did indeed grow back. Unfortunately, it had one side effect: Connors was subsequently transformed into a reptilian monster! Rappy Veteran Posted November 5, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2010 A new name has joined the cast of the new Spider-Man reboot being developed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Columbia Pictures, and that name is Martin Sheen. It?s being reported that Sheen is now in final negotiations to sign on for the pivotal role of Uncle Ben, who along with Aunt May, raised Peter Parker. As we?ve seen many times over, it?s the murder of Uncle Ben at the hands of a criminal that sets Parker off toward becoming the superhero, Spider-Man. Sheen joins an already impressive cast that includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Spider-Man?s love interest, Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as one of the film?s villains, The Lizard. The new reboot came after things collapsed with Sam Raimi and the development of Spider-Man 4. This new film is directed by Marc Webb, who previously helmed (500) Days of Summer, from a script written by James Vanderbilt, who has also penned The Rundown, Zodiac, and The Losers. The hopes is that production can begin on the new Spider-Man some time in December, with a release planned for July 3, 2012. UPDATE: Just after this news hit the web, Heat Vision also reported word that Sally Field was now in early negotiations to play the role of Aunt May. It should still take a little time before this might be confirmed; stay tuned for more! Rappy Veteran Posted November 10, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted November 10, 2010 ZOOEY Deschanel might be starring in the new Spider-Man movie! Sources say director Marc Webber ? who worked with the actress on Days of Summer ? is talking to Zooey about playing Betty Brant, the sexy PA of Daily Bugle boss J Jonah Jameson. ?Betty was a minor character in the previous Spidey movies but Marc has big plans for her,? reveals a movie insider. ?He wants a strong performer to carry the role and Zooey fits the bill perfectly. The role is hers if she wants it.? The new Spider-Man movie, featuring Andrew Garfield in the title role, is due to begin shooting next month. Zooey recently revealed she?d be a producer if she didn?t make it as singer and actress. ?I have a lot of things I think I could do, like producing music or films,? she said. ?Whatever it is, I would have to always be doing something creative. Rappy Veteran Posted November 18, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted November 18, 2010 The latest small casting move on Marc Webb?s Spider-Man reboot is the addition of Denis Leary, who is now negotiating to play the father of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). It?s only a small casting move in the sense that the role might not be a very large one; regardless, Mr. Leary would be a welcome addition to the cast. The idea that he might not see much screen time is a guess ? we don?t actually know, and his part could be more significant than expected. His character, George Stacy, was a one-time NYPD Captain, and he had a small but notable supporting role in the main Spider-Man comics continuity at one time. (Only read this Marvel Wiki background if you?re not averse to possible spoilers for the movie.) Elements of his comic story will have to be changed to fit this film ? in the comics he played into a Doctor Octopus story, and as far as we know Doc Ock isn?t in the movie ? but the character can fill more or less the same role with a different antagonist. He joins a lineup that includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Spider-Man (well, a couple stuntmen and many computers will also be Spider-Man) and then Rhys Ifans as the Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, presumably Sally Field as Aunt May. THR notes that this is the first live-action movie role for Denis Leary since 2002; shortly after that he started his well-regarded stint as the core cast member of Rescue Me. He?s done voice work in the Ice Age movies, but it will be very nice to see him back on the big screen in the flesh. Rappy Veteran Posted December 4, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted December 4, 2010 HeatVision has learned that Campbell Scott (Roger Dodger, The Spanish Prisoner) has signed on, and Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire, The Darjeeling Limited), Annie Parisse (Rubicon, National Treasure) and Julianne Nicholson (Kinsey, Little Black Book) are in talks to join the cast of Marc Webb?s 3D Spider-Man reboot. Find out which character they will play, after the jump. Scott and Nicholson will play Parker?s parents, Richard and Mary Parker, who leave their son an orphan. As you might recall, Parker?s uncle Ben and Aunt May become his parental guardians. Its not clear if they will appear in flashbacks or a prologue, but I wouldn?t expect them to have a big role in the film. We previously learned that Columbia Pictures were casting a young actor to play the boy-age Peter Parker, so one could assume the parents are to be used in those scenes (sequences). Khan will play Van Atter, joining the film as a second villain. Rhys Ifans has previously been cast as a villain named The Lizard. In the comics, Nels Van Adder was a former research assistant who volunteered to become a test subject for a chemical developed by Stromm and Norman Osborn, which results in him becoming a villain named Proto-Goblin. According to wikipedia: It was revealed that soon after Norman had Stromm arrested for embezzlement, he had found only a portion of the notes detailing his partner?s serum. Norman tests the incomplete version of the serum on an Oscorp employee named Nels Van Adder, driving Van Adder slowly insane and beginning his transformation into a red, demon-like being known as the ?Proto-Goblin?. Killing several people and blaming Norman for what has happened to him, Adder proceeds to harass and later attempts to kill him before being knocked out a window in Oscorp by Arthur and George Stacy and fleeing into the wild. In order to escape conviction for what he had done to Van Adder, Norman convinces the police that Van Adder had been experimenting on himself, and that he had secretly been trying to help him. Van Adder?s current fate remains unrevealed. Parisse will play Van Atter?s wife.
