For the first time I have the feeling they are really doing something about stuff that has been needing updates for such a long time like Notepad, Wordpad, Paint. These are good programs but they need to be updated over time to sync with current formats / needs.

I think people who 'hate' ribbon are being stubborn. It's there to make our lives easier, just adopt to it. :)

Okay. I don't mean to get off-topic, but I really am lost. I sent my resume to [email protected], but I've sent it three times and have gotten failure notices. I tried using my Hotmail (windows live) address twice, both of those didn't work so I sent a test message from my Hotmail to my Yahoo, and that worked... so then I sent it again from my Yahoo, and got the error again.

Was the server shut-down, temporarily offline for some reason, or... what?

That email is a NO REPLY email address so don't expect to get anything other than the failed sent notice.

And is there anyway I can sign up to become a beta tester?

Are you signed up to ms connect? Not sure how getting on the betas works these days but that's the place to start. Just make sure you participate properly in any beta you sign up to.

I think that address has been obsoleted by Microsoft Connect. That address was for the old Microsoft Beta Place.

Some people are asking how can they get in to test this.

most likely if you tested vista and such you'll get in.

Windows 7 I believe will be a much smaller, more private, intimate beta. I think what happened with Vista was it got too large and unwieldy with up 20 to 30 thousand beta testers. I am not discriminating against that, but I believe, too many cooks in the kitchen tend to spoil the pot. Of course Microsoft will accept new eyes to look at the code. But, I just don't see that free for all happening with 7 like it did with Vista.

Wow... that is really nice. I assume there will be a new Microsoft Office for Windows 7?

There will be a new Microsoft Office, codename 'Office 14', its not necessarily for Windows 7, although they are most likely to be launched together and be more synergistic.

Most sources agree that Microsoft will skip version "13" due to superstition (see triskaidekaphobia). Regardless of what they call it, expect the inertia of current installs to slow adoption of both Office 2007 and its future incarnations

      Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)

      OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately.
