[Official] Crysis Warhead

A console game by the looks of it. They're currently hiring for a PS3 programmer. If Warhead doesn't sell well and gets pirated a lot then we can kiss goodbye to Crytek developing solely for the PC again.

We are losing all of them.

So you didn't get the memo then.. It's been known for a while that Warhead is the last PC exclusive game from Crytek.

What? all it means is they won't make future Crytek games for "PC ONLY" like Crysis Warhead is, it doesn't mean PC won't be getting future games because that's just stupid to assume so since crytek are all about graphics advancement which you cannot do on a console...

ATI/AMD cards still have some performance issues with Warhead, as with Crysis. Nvidia cards runs smooth even with the 8800-series.

Sweet that should be fixable then.

My 4870 feels quite a bit quicker than my 8800GTS did in every other game.

Not true -- take a look at the performance results on Enthusiast.

That's not the impression I've got from reading through forum posts about Warhead though. Many people with 48XX-series have experienced some issues with the enthusiast setting. The gamer setting works nice though.

I have a 4870 series card and believe me, warhead is fantastic on it. People should be sure they updated to the latest 8.9 drivers. I am waiting on my 4870x2 to arrive tomorrow.

The game does have SecuROM and has a limited 3-install per lifetime system. EA has recently said they're going to release a patch for Spore (which has the same DRM method) to "unauthorize" installs so you get the install on that computer back.

All I can say is that they better do that for Warhead as well or I definitely will not buy another SecuROM game.

I can't wait to buy it. (haven't had the chance) Apparently they fixed the game a lot including a lot of tweaks and optimizations so it runs faster and smoother than the original Crysis and even better graphics and runs on a larger market of mid to high-end rigs.

Looks like there in fact is SecuROM on Steam, although not as restrictive:

I emailed steam when I started to see the rumours about warhead having limited installs pop up, as I was not willing to support such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DRM scheme.

Quote:Hello,

I recently preordered Crysis Warhead on my steam account ******. Unfortunately I have been looking around and heard that this game may have limited reinstalls (3) as part of its Securom DRM. I would therefore like to ask whether this DRM will be included in my Steam copy of the game.

If you fail to tell me whether it is included (as there has been no official statement on it at this time) I want you to cancel and refund my purchase.

If you do tell me that the 3-installs Securom DRM is included in my purchase, when I have not been previously informed of such, I want you to cancel and refund my purchase.

The only way I will buy this game from you or anyone else is if it does not limit my freedom to install and reinstall the game. I do not believe in supporting customer abuse in the form of draconian DRM. Therefore if this DRM is included in the product I preordered from you I demand a full refund and cancellation of my purchase.

Sincerely yours,

Zhou Yu

I got the reply:

Hello Zhou Yu,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

The Crysis series uses Securom. Securom does not limit reinstalls but rather the number of computers that the CD Key may be activated on at a time.

"The Crysis series uses Securom. Securom does not limit reinstalls but rather the number of computers that the CD Key may be activated on at a time."

That's a bit misleading, if I'm reading it right... SecuROM does not limit you from uninstalling and reinstalling on any computer, period. But if you make a hardware change, it counts as another one of your installs (such as a new video card). They limit the number of computers you can install the game on in its lifetime (not at once).

Pretty sure they mean you can have it installed on 3 pc's at any given time, not over the course of your lifetime.

No. It does not. It means lifetime, unless they changed it for Steam.

A de-/re-authorization tool was released for Bioshock, though, which allowed you to take one of the three licenses off a PC.

And how much do think that is? 3000 times? I'd like an assumption of an amount.

Warhead DRM FAQ:

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/41640/Cr...-Protection-FAQ

5 machine installs per lifetime.

That is not so bad really if you think about it, unless you change your PC hardware alot it's not going to be an issue I'd say. I take it a reinstall on the same PC (i.e. you had to format the PC) doesn't count as a new install? if that does, then it would be a pain...

Well, it's an issue for me. I installed it on my desktop and laptop, which is two. I plan on upgrading my graphics card soon, which will make three. Then I may get a new laptop within a year and give my brother my current one, which makes 4, leaving me with one remaining.

Like I said... just give me the de-authorization tool that Bioshock has and that Spore is getting and I'll be happen. Five is definitely plenty, but I want to be able to actually use all 5 whenever I want and add/remove machines from that total.

No tool coming to remove authorization from a machine as Bioshock has and Spore is getting

Not happy with that sort of DRM.

Bad luck EA, not getting my money. Order cancelled. (Game ships 25th Sept in Australia)

...in which event he won't give you another.

I'm cool with the DRM and all. That's completely fine with me. But give me a tool to actually control my DRM. They're my copies, and I want to be able to use them as I see fit.

Then again, I may be able to just copy the entire directory to my external hard drive and then put it on any other computer I need it for, but not sure.

    • Yup, broke my comp… again. its times like this when I regret AMD. This just never happens on NV.
    • Huh? You're delusional calling the Steam Deck dead. It is so successful that it has sold out multiple times. Even after the price hike this year it sold out again with 24 hours of being back in stock. The demand is real and has not died down even after four years.
    • Same place "Unreal III" is, in everyone's thoughts!
    • So how much water is used in that "initial charge" and how often will it need to be recharged?
