[Official] Crysis Warhead

I tried the config and my overall FPS decreased, plus everything seemed to have this odd and extremely pixelated shadows/distant fog

Yeah I've noticed that as well. Although the config does give me an increase in fps, I don't like the visual hit. It's almost like anisotropic filtering is turned off o_O

Also, I believe the viewing distance is a major factor in the FPS increase. The limited viewing distance really messes with the iron sight/zooming.

I enjoy Physco more as well :)

I liked Psycho's personality more, but I felt more like I was the character with Nomad. He just seemed more believable to be me. I think that also had to do with the original being first-person except for the very beginning and very end, though.

Agreed, I can't stand that config for me I get better performance and visuals with all gamer particles and shadows on Mainstream and a few Enthusiast.

According to what benchmarks we can see, the claims of improved performance are pretty much lies. I'm still on a 8800GTS 320MB so I will wait until my next computer upgrade to buy this game. I don't feel like running it with "Gamer" settings and getting sub-30fps.

Finished the game in about 6 hours i think. Played it on and off.

Impression - meh

Played on the Delta mode with Enthusiast settings and wasnt that hard at all.

Gotta say i was a bit disappointed.

Bring on Far Cry 2 and Gears of War 2

It's kind of hard to say when you haven't even played the game, but to me the performance increase is obvious.

I have the same video card you do and run it great at the mainstream setting, which still looks great. Not sure why you would want to run it at gamer and get a horrible frame rate -- your card (and mine) don't have enough juice for that.

The performance increase was only obvious on the first level for me.

Yeah I didn't notice it at first but there is like this weird pixelated grid effect. But if you use the "ccc" config it's like 90% based off of it does not have that issue at all and gives similar fps boost.

I couldn't play this game on mainstream. It's enthusiast or nothing. That's just me. :)
..did you just buy the game? Or are you referring to the original on medium? You said you weren't going to get Warhead.
My English is still a bit approximative, I should have said I "wouldn't". No I don't have Warhead and still don't intend on buying it.

Oh, my bad, I misread you. You've got a point there -- enthusiast does look amazing.

Get a GTX 260 (wait for the prices to drop) :) That's what I'm going to do.

Not upgrading the video card before at least 18 months of use. It's tough, but I have to set some hard limits. So this means... not before May 2009. :pinch:
Weird issue I'm having guys. When I hookup my TV and try to play Crysis in 1920x1200 on it it says that resolution but only at 24hz which is extremely noticeable. Anyway I can change that?

Not really, movies are filmed at around 24 fps to 30 fps so the 24hz is going to be standard on nearly all tvs.

Just picked up Warhead yesterday and was really liking it when all of a sudden it just grinds to a friggen stuttering halt at the snow level. WTF? My system handles the game beautifully, as it did with the original ,but holy crap there is something seriously wrong with the code or something. Sucks, I'm gonna have to crank everything down to get through that area and that's a shame as it looks like it would be pretty cool. This is bad on a level Ive never experienced..ever. Im gonna go check some Crysis forums as I know there is no way this is on my end...something is seriously wrong there and I amazed they even released this with that part as it is.

Just crank down particles, worked for me.

I totally forgot about DX10 or DX9 option. I started it up in DX9 from the shortcut and its smooth as silk now...looks just as good too as far as I can tell...and gained about 30fps. Ill try DX10 with particles turned down to see if that will work as well. I gotta say tho, I don't think Ive ever noticed a big difference from DX9 to DX10 in any game that offers it..except for the gigantic drop in frames.

  • 1 month later...

after finishing Crysis, I am playing Warhead.

And the requirements for Warhead seems to be higher than the original.

For optimal settings, Crysis set everything on Very High; for Warhead, everything was Gamer.

And WOW. the snow stage lowered my FPS to < 10. Playing with DX9+Enthusiast raised it to 20FPS~, which isn't too bad.

I was playing Crysis original with 20-30FPS the entire time and I don't notice much difference between a 20-30FPS to 40FPS.

Or do I just not notice the little things?

    • Xbox Insiders get Xbox 360 achievements and Gamertag character upgrades by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is continuing its fast-paced update schedule for Xbox Insiders. Today, the company announced a new slate of features it is rolling out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, which includes an expansion to the gamertag system, Xbox 360 achievements, and more. The unique Gamertag that Xbox users can choose for their profile is getting more characters. Instead of the 12-character limit, Insiders will now be able to get a Gamertag that's 15 characters long. The 12-character limit will still apply to Gamertags that are not unique or contain any non-Latin characters. Meanwhile, Microsoft is adding Xbox 360 game support to its Game Hubs. Selecting an installed Xbox 360 game on a modern Xbox console will now show achievement progress, captures, and other information. Achievement pop-ups are back for these classics too, which should be good news for achievement hunters. The next change is for Xbox players who can't wait to jump into their games when an update is required. "If a game requires an update and is available to stream through your Game Pass membership, you can start playing immediately with cloud gaming while the update downloads in the background," explains Microsoft. The final change of this Insider update is once again to the game cards. Insiders will find that all games, both released and upcoming, will now have a simple button to add to their profile's wishlist, making the process much easier from a single place. This Xbox update is rolling out today to Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. As usual, Microsoft aims to bring it to more Insiders over time before they reach all Xbox owners. Head here to find out how to join the Xbox Insider Program to get a chance to test these features and upcoming ones on both consoles and PC.
