Well had a couple of online games last night, first observation was the actual race was lag free :D

second, I choose a venom class, so slowest ships, yet everyone was pulling away from me, its either a glitch that they restrict class, yet select different class, or there are more Venom Ships to unlock?

So I guess the only question is, are there more faster Venom Class ships to unlock?

Ships aren't class specific so yes you may well find people using the faster unlocked ships in Venom.

I have to say that i'm VERY impressed with the quality of this game. Certainly would be interesting if they plan on using this engine for anything else as it seems fairly polished :)

Could someone explain then the Classes, like Venom etc, what does that mean?

Each class relates to the highest speed the ship will reach.

Venom is the slowest, then Flash, Rapier and finally Phantom. When your playing Zone mode the speed will gradually get higher than Phantom (I normally completely loose control of the ships when it gets to Super-Phantom class).

Ah ok, so its like max speeds.

so for example

Venom allows 1000mph max speed, and a ship has 8 speed, its max would be 800mph.

then if rapier is max 2000mph, and ship has 8 speed, it would be something like 1600mph max.

Numbers are obviously out, but just to give clear example.

ok thanks.

Does the game play single songs only, or, say, if I were to post a full on DJ mix, would it just play the first song over and over, or the full mix (like warhawk's in game xmb music).

You have the option to... set "continuous" on the playback mode :)

+1 ;)

K, got a mix done, just gotta get it uploaded. First half is bassline breaks & tearout, 2nd half is UK hard house/hard dance.

Specamin A. - "Rock This House"

Duel Calibre - "Wavin' The Four 4"

Specamin A. - "Check The Sound"

Chemical Brothers - "Block Rockin' Breaks"

The Edison Factor - "The Curse of Voodoo Ray"

You obviously mean uploaded to your PS3, and have no intention of posting links to copyrighted material, because that would get you in trouble here on neowin.

If you would like to discuss this further, please PM me asap :)

Well soniq is a dj, i'm sure it's his own mixes, not sure how the rules are on that.

But even still posting links to the 'remixes' would be close if he doesn't own the rights to the original material that has been remixed. Not too sure on the standing on things like that tbh :shifty:

How do you guys play, with the D Pad or the Analog stick?

I just started playing the game seriously last night, and I cannot get comfortable with which way to use.

Also as far as I know, a DJ Mix is okay to post even though it does contain copyrighted material, something to do with the fact the DJ is expressing themselves by mixing the music together or something along those lines. I know we used to have someone on Staff here who did mixes all of the time, and they were free to post theirs, so I am assuming that is why above. I can look into it some more if needed, as I am not fully clear myself on what the rules are, just basing the above on what I used to see.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
