How do you guys play, with the D Pad or the Analog stick?

I just started playing the game seriously last night, and I cannot get comfortable with which way to use.

Also as far as I know, a DJ Mix is okay to post even though it does contain copyrighted material, something to do with the fact the DJ is expressing themselves by mixing the music together or something along those lines. I know we used to have someone on Staff here who did mixes all of the time, and they were free to post theirs, so I am assuming that is why above. I can look into it some more if needed, as I am not fully clear myself on what the rules are, just basing the above on what I used to see.

Yes the one posting the mixes is Chris Allen: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?auto...g&blogid=17

Come to think of it, I've posted a mix or two on here in the Media section.

Larry's right, it typically falls under the performance becomes the material in question, as long as I'm not trying to profit directly from the mix (ie., charging you guys to download it).

I'm learning to play with Sixaxis.

After watching the 1UP Show and the guy (forgot his name) saying he put the time into mastering the sixaxis controls, he doesn't want to go back.

I used the analogs before but!

Crazy, good luck!!!

I use the D-Pad, started using the Analog but while i was attempting the beat zico achievement i realized that the d-pad is way more precise, i use analog for every other racing game.

I think the D-pad it will be for me then as well... I definitely noticed the D Pad was "stiffer" so to speak, which is why I was having a bit of an issue using it but can see why it would be the better option for a game like this.

Onto the next question, did anyone adjust the sensitivity of your air brakes and/or acceleration?

Oh also, do I just really suck? I have only done 3 races, got gold on one of them and silver on the others, and it seems like I will never get Gold on the ones I have Silver on. One of them is the Zones one, and I just cannot get through to Gold, and the other is a Time Trial, do I literally have to hit every pad on every lap to get the Gold? Do I unlock ships and go back to these ones later? I played the older Wipeouts, but honestly I forgot how it works, so I am wondering if I just need to practice a whole lot.

Exactly. Do get gold in time trial you have to get almost every pad in the whole session, and on most courses throw in some barrel rolls here and there.

You could try doing it later with faster ships, but it is possible with the ships you get at the beginning of the game. Just keep practising the course and learn the best line, sometimes compromising tight turns for getting speed pads (or vice versa).

Yes, i adjusted the acceleration button, brought it down to 10% to make it digital instead of analog, at 10% it isnt pressure sensitive, you are either accelerating full speed or not.

For the rest is just patience and practice, Wipeout is so different from normal racing games, its takes getting used to, right now im in the last grid (meltdown), i have been completing everything on elite and it is quite a torture, but i like it.

BTW Wipeout HD is sooooo much harder than previous wipeouts, i completed the Pulse and Pure on Elite and it was no where near as hard as HD.

What?! Acceleration is analogue? Why on earth would you want to accelerate gently? Turned down immediately.

I only use the analogue stick. I find once I've kinda got the racing line down, it gives me much smother turns. Also, I only play in the cockpit view. Though some times this turns into a whole new genre of game, which I call FPP. (First Person Pinball).

I had a little go of using the Sixaxis control just to get that trophy, and it wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be. Didn't manage to pull off a barrel roll with it though :/

Great news

CY:G, I noticed you got the Zone mode only using Airbrakes, how did you manage that? and what level were you on?

Anulpha Pass and how... trying and trying and trying...

I will just say this, after getting that Trophy now i cant play Zone with the Dpad, im so used to Airbrakes that if i use the dPad on Zone i start to crash everywhere.

Naturally i have to deprogram that from my head since im now trying to get Zone Zeus (75 zones), and it is impossible to do without the dPad

I tried to get the sixaxis trophy and is not easy. I'll have to keep trying to but I think is going to take me a while to master the controls.

Its not that hard, go on single race on racebox, Go to Moa Therma, set the AI to Skilled (Im not sure but i think you need skilled to get it) and set the speed level to whatever the trophy wants, and just play with the airbrakes, set the controls to use six axis butdont move the controller, it was the only way i was able to get it, six axis is so sensitive.

Yeah, i gave it a try just to check and it worked, if you set the controls to use six axis the airbrakes are still available so i dont see why they wouldnt allow it, and when they actually dont allow something it says so clearly on the trophy description. :)

Game just updated to1.10 Dunno what it fixes

In other news, unlocked MeltDown :)

They fixed the issue with 50 friends on PSN. although, to fix it you need to delete your profile aka save game :(

Better music playback and custom music support (all it said, didnt go into specifics)

Score boards updates are better now too.

Okay, on strictly D-Pad now, damn this game is like crack.

This is a straight Arcade Racer, like it should come with a Cabinet. Excellent game, extremely challenging which adds to the addictive factor.

So all Gold on Uplift.

Now on Warped, 4 Golds & 1 Silver, & 1 Bronze. The Silver & Bronze are on the Time Trials, which leads me to my questions...

What ship(s) are the best for Time Trials? I currently use Piranha & Assegai as my go to ships.

I swear on the Time Trials I am getting almost every single speed pad, I honestly think in one race I got them all, and I am still having trouble getting Gold. Is it just my line has to be perfectly clean?

Great game though, no doubt.

I am having the same issue, my silvers/bronze or even no medal are time trials, either single lap or for all laps, I just cannot get the time down, im hitting all speed pads etc. I am having trouble with 1 course, it has alot of tight corners, and I just loose it everytime.

But great game, great game :D

I've been using icaras for a while now, but I was really struggling on MeltDown last night, it's so ****ing fast. I was out of my face though, which also lead me to buy Linger in Shadows for ?1.99. Will have to have another look at that today, but I'm thinking it was probably a waste of money (apart from the tone of trophy's you get for doing hardly anything).

    • Rufus alternative Ventoy now supports Windows 11's mandatory update, fixes major boot bug by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has its own official Media Creation Tool used for making bootable USB media, there are some popular third-party utilities as well which offer additional options like bypassing system requirements, Microsoft Account creation, and more. One of these is Ventoy, and the software has received its latest update today. In fact, the app actually got a slew of updates over the last couple of days, three version releases in total, to be specific. The first release, version 1.1.13, was pulled as there was some unspecified error in the update, and as such, the corrected version 1.1.14 was pushed out. Following that on very short notice, 1.1.15 was published as well. For those unfamiliar, Ventoy is an open-source utility that lets users create a bootable USB drive once and then simply copy ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD, or EFI files onto it without repeatedly formatting the drive. It supports both legacy BIOS and UEFI boot modes, Secure Boot, and a wide range of operating systems, making it one of the most versatile tools in the category. The biggest change in version 1.1.14 is an updated Secure Boot shim file aimed at resolving the UEFI CA 2023 issue, which is basically a compatibility problem that has affected Secure Boot environments on some systems. If you recall, we reported about severe boot issues on HP devices following the release of updated Secure Boot 2023 keys. For anyone who may not be aware, back in early 2024, Microsoft announced that it was updating Secure Boot keys as they were going to become 15 years old in 2026, which is also when they are set to expire. As such, the new 2023 certificates have been rolling out with the newest Windows 11 updates. Updated boot manager and Secure Boot certificates are crucial for protection against malware like bootkits. These are mandatory updates. Alongside that, the VentoyPlugson graphical plugin configurator was updated in sync with the release. The update also introduces a new VTOY_SECURE_BOOT_POLICY option within the Global Control plugin, giving users more flexibility in managing Secure Boot behavior. Ventoy has also received a fix for a startup issue when Secure Boot was disabled. Microsoft does officially allow users to boot systems without Secure Boot as long as the PC is Secure Boot capable. The full changelog is given below: Update secure boot shim file to solve the UEFI CA 2023 issue. The new release use a new CA, so you need to enroll the new key for the first boot time. VentoyPlugson update synchronously. Global control plugin add a VTOY_SECURE_BOOT_POLICY option. Fix the boot issue when Secure Boot is disabled in the UEFI firmware. You can download the latest version of the app here on Ventoy's official GitHub repo or from Neowin software stories.
    • Windows 11 is fine, no issues on any of the machines I've run it on since release. The stricter security requirements are a good thing, sometimes the baseline needs to change and people will winge, but it is what it is. Happened with the move from 9x to NT - broke compatability Happened with XP SP2 when security started to become a serious consideration Certainly happend with Vista that brought in UAC, the concept of not running as admin (something that has been the norm in Linux/Unix from pretty much the start) and a completely new driver stack. Windows 11 will probably get looked back at as the point where even consumer and SMB IT was dragged kicking and screaming into a somewhat secure by default configuration.
    • Bluestacks has been emulating Android on Windows for fifteen years. It's janky and riddled with ads though, so WSA looked like it was going to be a huge improvement over the emulator experience. Too bad Microsoft dropped the ball on that.
    • Classic. China would be nothing without Western, Japanese, and South Korean technology.
    • The world is larger then your small viewpoint. Plenty of scientists care about this, especially those involved in space.
