[Official] Call of Duty: World at War

IMO, COD5 is going to suck. I went in with low expectations, installed the beta, and after playing a few minutes, it hit lower than low expectations. Graphics are sub-par despite having stronger requirements than COD4 (I know this is a beta, but honestly the COD4 beta was way better), and Punkbuster is a hassle.

I'll elaborate:

I have COD4 installed with Punkbuster, and it works just fine. I installed the COD5 beta, and I figured that since PB was installed with COD4, I wouldn't need it for COD5. I clicked 'no' on the option of installing Punkbuster, but now I'm getting kicked due to packet loss (even after enabling Punkbuster in the multiplayer options).

Does this mean that I have to have PB installed for COD5, even though it is already installed for COD4? I don't want to stop my COD4 gameplay for a limited beta. Help would be appreciated.

Try the PunkBuster updater. I don't see why anyone can see punkbuster is a hassle. Pb in theory should update itself but on occasion it doesn't, I just run pbsetup and it updates the pb client for all my games that use it and I dont get kicked anymore.

Bah, just played the beta on the 360... very meh. Running around with weapons from other countries feels stupid and grrr, how much damage does a tank need to take before it explodes? I hit a tank with 2 x tank shells and then it was either 1 or 2 rockets and it still wouldn't blow up. Plus you get the usual unpleasantness of very laggy gaming (but its like that for most 360 games so..). I dunno, perhaps I'll pickup the PC version when its abit cheaper. :(

And whats up with the Keifer Sutherland voice actor the americans? :p

Loving Keifer doing the voices.. Really cool IMO...

PC version seems to be better than the 360 version as far as gaming experience goes (having fun). I was like some of you at first. I came into it with a bad taste in my mouth because it was being done by Treyarch, and after my first couple of rounds playing I still felt that way, but the more and more I play it the more I enjoy it. I mean I am lvl 40 now (which is max for beta) and have just been going back and unlocking everything I can for weapons, and still having a blast, even though I get my butt handed to me sometimes because of the weapons I am using.. ALTHOUGH I must say that double barrel shotty is HAWT!!!

Invasion of the bodysnat..., wait, pirates!

I'll wait for reviews on this, I never completed COD4 anyway. Never got into MP either, but I know it's critically acclaimed.

    • Microsoft kills AI-powered history search feature in Edge by Usama Jawad In June 2025, Microsoft began rolling out AI-powered history search functionality with Edge 138. The idea was simple: allow customers to use natural language phrases and synonyms to find their desired history items rather than matching keywords exactly. Although the company had already rolled out this capability in a phased manner, it has now decided to cancel it. In an update on its Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft has announced that it has decided not to move forward with AI-powered history search. The company has not detailed the exact reasoning behind this move, but it has apologized to customers for the inconvenience. The move is rather interesting as it seemingly could have improved user productivity. Edge users wouldn't have to worry about typos or exact keywords, and just focus on what they were trying to locate in their browser history. Microsoft had also assured users that an on-device AI model would be leveraged for this functionality, and no data would be sent to the cloud. IT admins also had the ability to control its availability through the EdgeHistoryAISearchEnabled policy. When the feature began rolling out last year, many of our readers called it creepy, noting that they couldn't trust Microsoft to keep their data on their device. Others also questioned its usefulness, saying that it's simply a way for Microsoft to insert more AI bloat into its products. Although the Redmond tech giant had stated that it will be more mindful about surfacing Copilot features in Windows 11 apps, we later discussed how this is mostly a rebranding exercise rather than an actual axing of AI functionalities. Indeed, a Microsoft executive later emphasized how they want to reshape Windows for the agentic AI era. That said, it does seem like at least AI-powered Edge history search isn't a part of that vision.

    • Not likely, of course, that we will see routine citizenship checks as they only involve compliance with existing federal voting laws already on the books for decades. This seems a non-issue entirely. Only fools would have the government rush headlong into an AI program few can understand or predict, or even debug...
