Release Date: Fall 2009

Information: Halo 3: Recon is an "expansion pack" for Halo 3. It will be an entirely new physical game, however, and have its own 1,000 gamer points. Recon -- a prequel to Halo 3 -- features a new hero and an entirely new campaign. The game will also feature 4-player co-op gameplay, new multiplayer maps, and other multiplayer content. The features, according to the press release, are as follows:

  • All-new campaign content. The ?Halo 3: Recon? campaign is an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief?s return to New Mombasa in ?Halo 3.? Experience the fate of Earth from the brand-new perspective of a special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), adding a unique outlook and new gameplay elements to the events that unfold in the trilogy?s finale. While the feel of this new chapter will greatly resemble that of previous ?Halo? experiences, ?Halo 3: Recon? will require players to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before.
  • A new hero: Prepare to drop. Known for their courage, valor and, at times, insanity, ODSTs are among the fiercest UNSC soldiers, priding themselves on being the first unit deployed into hostile situations. While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these ?Hell Jumpers? more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve.
  • Expanded multiplayer collection. No ?Halo? experience would be complete without groundbreaking multiplayer content, and ?Halo 3: Recon? gives fans more of what they love. With exclusive new maps and full Forge options, players will find more multiplayer content than ever before with ?Halo 3: Recon.
  • Ever-growing community options. Players will continue to enjoy all the great ?Halo 3? technological innovations, including Saved Films, screenshots, Campaign Scoring and four-player co-op. All of the new multiplayer maps fully support the Forge editor, offering endless gameplay customization possiMedia:fans.

I think MSFT fails for ending Halo so soon... they could have gotten to Halo XI and it would have still been a great game. Look at the Final Fantasy series and how Halo: Combat Evolved was so successful...

Now they seem as if they are regretting ever ending the series by moving gamers into a different perspective of the story. Similar to how the movie Vantage Point was based on; same story several times but in the eyes of several diverse people.

Halo isn't over. Hence this expansion, Halo Chronicles, Halo Wars, and Halo 4 being developed.

I meant ending the main character's life, Master Chief, and just starting the story over from another person's point of view...

So it's a prologue to Halo 3, and you play as a ODSC Marine?

Sadly...

They never ended MC's life... watch after the credits of 3... dont know if it plays on easy, but on heroic and up it does. I dont hink he'll be the main for 4 though.

Ugh... I wonder how this new character is... I really don't feel like playing anyone but Master Chief... >,<

IMO Master Chief isn't a strong enough personality for me to mind too much. Same with Gordon Freeman.

I just watched the trailer after spending all night hoping and reading along to a TGS live blog and I was not disappointed. If you're in to the backstory and (be it quite sci-fi generic) combat system of the Halo franchise, this is a welcome addition. If not, then this move would seem like Bungie is selling out while Microsoft milks the series.

Well, that has already been done (see: Halo 2) and the games are still going strong. I will admit that the campaign in Halo 3 felt a little lacking, but it was fun as hell and the plethora of features outside of the single player experience made me feel like my money was well spent.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that if Bungie keeps pushing out the same caliber experience that they have done time and time again, I'm going to keep buying. I can't wait for Halo 3: Recon.

Ohh so he's NOT dead? In the ending of H3, a funeral is done in honor of his life. I supposed he died since I doubt he'd walk out of the ground like some sort of zombie coming back for revenge...

Weird, you can see his fingers and they look very disproportional. I wonder if that was meant to be or if the animation/art team overlooked something...

I suggest you replay the last mission and wait until after the credits.

.

EDIT: Nevermind, I completely forgot about the Oblivion expansion :p

So my real question is, will this be like Shivering Isles which you either downloaded off Live or buy on DVD and installed along side Halo 3 or is it a stand alone disk based game?

I thought the same thing till I played it again and decided to see if they would do anything after the credits.... it was anice suprise.

The new trailer looks BADASS... I actual love the graphical styling if its going to be similar to that. I also like the idea of the new hero, and the fact that it looks like it'll be stealthy and more recon (duh) is pretty neat.

Agreed. Looks like it'll be a little more stealth based and a lot more dark. Should be awesome.

For me, after reading the books too, I am more attached to the character I guess. Wouldn't hurt to play other characters too I guess.

    • Free Software Foundation Europe pushes EU to force Google to allow AI uninstalls on Android by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels Users should be able to fully uninstall AI-based features from Android devices and be able to access interoperability functions, free from Google’s verification requirements, the European Commission has heard as part of an Android interoperability consultation under the Digital Markets Act. These measures were proposed by the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) last week when it submitted its documentation. The FSFE noted that Google had started silently installing AI models without telling users. It noted that the EU’s DMA requires companies like Google to allow users to uninstall pre-loaded software from their devices, but in the case of the AI models Google is installing, they reinstall if you delete them, contravening the DMA. To get Google back under control, the FSFE has told the European Commission that there needs to be improvements within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). First, it said that users should be able to fully remove pre-loaded AI components from their devices, with companies being prohibited from silently reinstalling or reactivating them. Second, access to Android interoperability features should not be contingent on registration, authorization, or contractual relationships with Google. This pertains to Google’s attempt to force developers to register with Google, even to publish apps to alternative app stores like F-Droid. Discussing its submission, Lucas Lasota, FSFE Legal Programme Manager, said: Google is planning to roll out its Android Developer Certification in September 2026. This will force every Android app developer to register with Google before their software can be installed on certified Android devices, but it should affect those who have removed Google Apps from their device. The program is controversial because it entails the signing of contracts and payment of account fees to Google, as well as the handing over of the identities of developers. It said: The FSFE said that if the Commission’s draft measures remain unchanged, then Google will be allowed to make developers verify their identity. The FSFE believes that asking developers to register is contrary to the text and spirit of the law. In summary, the FSFE has told the Commission that no developer should need a Google account, a Play Store presence, or any agreement with Google to access Android’s interoperability features.
