DETROIT ? Three seventh-grade girls at a school in Monroe were ordered to strip to their underwear while a teacher investigated the alleged theft of $42, their parents charge.

The principal of Trinity Lutheran School was placed on two-week leave and the investigation into the female teacher's alleged actions was continuing, Senior Pastor Stanley AuBuchon said Wednesday.

Three parents contacted police following the Oct. 1 incident at the school, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit.

"They wanted to report a strip-search of seventh-grade girls," Deputy Chief Thomas Moore said Wednesday. "We're not talking about nude, but stripped down to their undergarments."

Police have interviewed the three girls who said they were ordered to disrobe. Investigators will turn over their information to the county prosecutor, possibly by the end of the week.

The school has 176 students from preschool through eighth grade. Names of the teacher and principal were not released, AuBuchon said.

The teacher has not been put on leave and is still teaching, AuBuchon said.

Ofcourse the teacher is still teaching, not to be positively sexistic, but for starters the teacher is a woman, second, if she really believed the girls stole that money, she had all the right, third, those girls wont be giving that teacher a pain in the ass, fourth, when they have their sports class they all run in their undergarments in 1st/2nd/3rd grade. Who cares.

police have the right to do strip searchs, but even that is one on one, and requires more than just a suspicion.

Just Disgusting, yes i agree with them being questioned about the money, but stripping them almost naked is just wrong.

Over here in the UK, if you stole in school, you would be questioned by staff members at the school, but it would be likely they'd leave the matter to the police to sort.

i wonder if the TLO case we all learned about in government applies here... basically a teacher took weed from a girl in the bathroom and reported her. but she sued saying there was no search warrant and the teacher had no right to search her purse... it went on to supreme court and the court ruled that in order to maintain the school's safety the school has the ability to inforce certain laws and procedures that the police on the outside world can't do...

so i am pretty sure the teacher will be protected by this... maybe it wasn't the best course of action to take but just like they try not to second guess officers, they are probably not going to second guess the teacher.

With only hear say evidence it seems a little over the top and I wouldnt of that anyone other than the likes of Police or Customs would be allowed to strip search anyone not least a Teacher.

Tbh its gross mis-conduct. If I was a parent and I found out my kids had been foced into a strip search by there teacher id go ape. Theres much better ways to hanlde something like this. Such as contacting parents and detaining the pupils.

Yes kids strip for Gym etc but its not forced upon them and theres a sort of safety in numbers thing going on there aswell. Also the P.E Teacher wouldnt be allowed to watch them do so only check in once every 5 or so mins to make sure there getting changed. Also any school i attended also had cubicles for girls to change in so argueing any other is a little pointless imho.

Theres no good reason for them to have done this, even if the kids were little sob`s they have rights which i have to say were violated here. In my school we had money stolen and the teachers would search our bags. They`d also basically make it clear that they`d detain the class or pupils until someone gave evidence which was done via a one on one consultation with the teacher so you could effectively grass them up in confidence.

Whateverrr. I mean, it's no different than being in the locker room.

Now, if they were brought to their underwear while in front of the other students (boys specifically as well), then yeah, I could understand. Other than that, like I said, no different than the locker rooms.

Teachers do not have the right, nor have they been given permission to perform such an act, any teacher doing so should be thoroughly investigated, and then removed from their position. AFAIK the only people with such authority are in law enforcement. If any of my 3 children were to tell me this happened to them, I would be definitely be filing a complaint against the teacher.

Of course, if it was a male teacher doing this, he'd have hard, firm evidence, something he could make stand up in court...

Seriously, male or female teacher - it'd still be wrong and there are better ways to deal with theft in the classroom.
