Sikh
I have this problem with COD 4. Always did after my first reformat after i installed it. Basically after the first time i played it each time frames drop. Dont know why tothis day, jsut live with it. I get 120 average frames in CS:S, go to Crysis I get 45 Average. COD 4 i get 29 as soon as i enter a server with like 5. Seriously. But I tried everything and the only way i can fix it is if i m ake sure the "Dual Video Card" option is Yes. Even though i dont have dual vids. If I do that, i get 55-80 fps average in a Server full of people. ---------------------- Offtopic to OP/Anybody: How did you get that graph? That is much easier to diagnose then having to screenshot in game of fps and etc etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/687294-farcry-2-low-fps/page/2/#findComment-590023958 Share on other sites
eviljedi
Very very strange, i've got a Q9450 CPU /w 8GB DDR2 RAM and ATi 4850 and I get about 70-120 FPS @ 720pHumour me, what anti virus are you running? AVG. I had NOD32 before reformatting and it was just the same. Offtopic to OP/Anybody:How did you get that graph? That is much easier to diagnose then having to screenshot in game of fps and etc etc. It's from the farcry 2 benchmarking tool. It's located in the same folder as the fc2 .exe Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/687294-farcry-2-low-fps/page/2/#findComment-590024034 Share on other sites
gummyz
Do you have problems playing Crysis? or seeing this particular issue? Is it possible to run the game in DX9 mode? I'm under the impression that running games in DX10 mode automatically applies 4XAA. I'm not sure, but isn't 400W a little too on the light side for a 4870? What's the listing for the amps on each rail? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/687294-farcry-2-low-fps/page/2/#findComment-590025400 Share on other sites
CrossCheck
its your power supply it is too weak thats why the low fps * PCI Express? based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard * 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express? power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX? technology in dual mode) * Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to http://ati.amd.com/certifiedPSU for a list of Certified products * Minimum 1GB of system memory * Installation software requires CD-ROM drive * DVD playback requires DVD drive * Blu-ray? playback requires Blu-ray drive * For a complete ATI CrossFireX? system, a second ATI Radeon? HD 4870 graphics card, an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard and one ATI CrossFireX Bridge Interconnect cable per graphics card (included) are required Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/687294-farcry-2-low-fps/page/2/#findComment-590026002 Share on other sites
eviljedi
I'm not sure about Crysis. I'll see if I can get a copy to test it out. In those benchmarks I'm running FC2 in DX9 mode, in DX10 it goes below 10FPS. I know about the power supply requirements for the 4870 but others with shuttles with the same PSU as me have reported no problems running 4870s, GTX 260s and even 280s. How do I check the listing for the amps on each rail? +shift. MVC Posted October 26, 2008 MVC Share Posted October 26, 2008 Check the sticker on the side of your PSU. Should have the rail distribution on there. eviljedi
The sticker looks like this (only its 400w): http://eu.shuttle.com/archive/de/prod/xpc/...psu_sticker.jpg What part is the rails distribution? How do I check the listing for the amps on each rail? You can get an Amp Metre what can measure the amps/voltages while the system is running, or you can use Speedfan or a similar utility which can monitor the rails, but the Amp/Volt Metre would give you more reliable results. Mannlich
Based on the shot of your sticker you have only 16 amps on the 12v rail. That does not seem good enough for a 4870. I would get a better PSU. Edit - just noticed you said the sticker looks like this, only is 400w. Are all of those numbers the exact same otherwise? That is only a 250w psu shown. Mannlich
That should be good enough for the 4870. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/687294-farcry-2-low-fps/page/2/#findComment-590026388 Share on other sites

eviljedi
Here are some benchmarks I did on Crysis Warhead: DirectX 9.0c PERFORMANCE 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0xx ==> Framerate [ Min: 47.85 Max: 133.75 Avg: 68.55 ] DirectX 9.0c GAMER 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0xx ==> Framerate [ Min: 7.73 Max: 50.20 Avg: 35.66 ] DirectX 9.0c ENTHUSIAST 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0xx ==> Framerate [ Min: 6.47 Max: 32.38 Avg: 25.00 ] It seem to be running better than FC2 but the min FPS is a little worrying on gamer and enthusiast. It also seems quite "sticky", it frequently freezes for 0.5 second or so, especially on the higher settings. It also freezes like this when I cross checkpoints but I assume that's just the saving to the HD that's causing that. +shift. MVC Posted October 28, 2008 MVC Share Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) You need more than just rail distribution, you need to provide us with the combined wattage allocated to each rail (for your specific PSU, not the 250W model) Otherwise there is no way for us to calculate the combined amperage provided on the +12v rail because you have multiple +12v rails on your PSU. markrigh
Hi everyone, Well I have the same problem with the guy who uses a rabbit as his picture... I get an average of 40 fps for the ranch small test (with a 30 fps low, and 60 fps high). My system specs: E4400 @ 3Ghz 2 go gskill 3-3-3-8 at 666mhz asus p5n e sli (motherboard) ati 4850 @ 680mhz/1100mhz. I used 8.11 drivers for the tests. I noticed that if i max out everything for the gunfire test, i got a vpu recovery... I get rid of this problem by just installing the driver without CCC (a big piece of junk). I think something is bottlenecking the game... maybe the cpu or the ram. dont know. By the way, rabbit guy, do u used a cracked version of Farcry 2? I do, maybe that is the cause of the low frame rates and i'll be buying the game... see u.
