GTA IV for PC (official)

I've heard a lot of people are having issues with ATI cards, even the higher range ones as Unimatrix Xero is experiencing. The game just doesn't seem to be optimised for ATI cards as well as it is for nVidia cards.

I suppose all you can do now is buy nVidia or hope for a patch.

i wonder if nvidia will release a driver update for gta

ive been playing for a while now and ive noticed that my fps gets worse at night time, and yes you 'have' to install this shiity R* social thing its friggin crap if u ask me

As far as I can tell by his signature, he (Unimatrix Xero) owns 8800GTX.

Then I named the wrong person :p ...In retrospect, I think it was actually someone frmo another forum I was reading at the same time.

Names are irrelevant, point's still valid: People who have 4870HD's are having FPS issues with settings that the card should be able to handle. Eg; http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=378507

can anyone explain to me what R* Social is?

Rockstar Games Social Club is a free online service provided by Rockstar Games for use with their latest generation of games. Rockstar Games Social Club was first announced on 27 March 2008, with pre-registration beginning on 14 April 2008. However, that date was moved to 17 April 2008. The name is a reference to organized crime, which commonly uses the term "social club" to describe a meeting place or hideout.

I figured maybe I'd be able to run this game. I can 'play' at 800x600 with lowest possible settings. But at some points the road in front of me don't load so I can't see where I'm going, So I have to rely on the radar. I've got the min spec cpu Duo Core at 1.8, and a 8400m GS and 3gigs of ram. I guess this one is going back on the shelf until I get a new system OR a patch comes and fixes everything magically. I have no idea why they would ship a game in this condition.

well after a little hunting ive found a little 'fix' to get the fps up a little

just do the following and you get a small fps increase

Head into the Nvida control panel and select all app controlled but overide AA to 2X vsync forced off the exe you need to add is 'launchgtaiv.exe then knock down the numerical sliders to the following

13, 35, 20, 0, ive really noticed a fps increase and i think im actully close to around 25-30fps now, eiether way its better than before, and the game still looks good as well, give it a shot and tell me what you think

The sales figures are going to hit rock bottom unless Rockstar sorts out this pathetic performance from their "next generation" game on the current high end cards. I am disappointed to the core. Current cards are unable to run console level graphics. What a surprise!!! I am looking forward to some more feedback from those members who have already got this game.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
