GTA IV for PC (official)

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to make a new topic, so hopefully someone can help me out.

I am about to order a new pc sometime soon. It has the following.

Windows Vista 64 bit.

6 Gig ram PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM

AMD Phenom? X4 9550 Quad-Core Processor @ 2.2GHz 2MB L2 + 2MB shared L3

and a Geforce 9100 256MB

Should that be able to play this at a decent rate?

Get a better graphics card. GTA IV is one of the few games that actually use up your video ram. Playing at 1920x1200 very high settings uses up to 900mb of video ram. Fortunately, my gfx card can handle it. Get a 1GB video card. Everything else looks fantastic. I suggest starting a new topic in Hardware Hangout to find out what the best value graphics card that fits your criteria is.

Thanks I'll have to remember that!

Besides GTA it will only be less graphic intensive games.

Ok this latest mission is ****ing me off, it's "Three Leaf Clover". I havent been able to make alot of progress on it because I keep dying to grenades. Now correct me if I'm wrong but the right mouse button is used to aim, and then you hold the left one down to pull the pin out and release it to throw the grenade.

Another time the HUD was wrong and failed the mission because I was out of range of my party.

The most progress I got was at the turnstile in the subway to which I tossed a grenade and killed someone of my party.

Yep. I say don't use grenades. Just use guns and stay with packie & other. When they move, follow them. I almost got killed in this mission but I completed it and didn't have to play for second time. :p

Here is a guide if you need one. Link

3 Leaf Clover is actully easy if you use the cover provided, its just a bit long for my liking

Well after 28 1/2 hours i completed the story and got my achievments, also only got 20 flying rats and a few races to go for those unlocks as well :)

Now I'm stuck on this 1 mission where I take a truck to a warehouse with Phil from the Pregorno family. The problem is there are so many mobs and Phil insists on charging into 10 guys. Of course when Phil dies the mission is failed.

Maintenance Update:

-Resource management adjustments based on the operating system detected.

Today we released a Maintenance Update for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV. This update ensures all copies of the game are properly aligned for the next gold master build pressing. We have also improved the resource management numbers to detect and adjust accordingly to different operating systems.

Like all previous updates, this contains all the fixes from past title updates, so there is no need to re-install previous patches if you have to re-install the game for any reason. I bought this game awhile back, but never installed it. Does anyone know if it still has problems detecting the second card on the 4870x2?

If that has been fixed, I suppose I can play now! For those that have been playing, is it easier with a controller? I have an Xbox 360 controller to use if I have to.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
