I was fooling around with the D200 + 50mm f/1.8 for a bit outside on this dreary day.

Click on it for the big (read: 2560x1600) version. I cropped it to that size from whateverthehelltheD200makesnatively to make it more background-friendly.

I have a question for everyone here: How do you set your white balance?

I usually use a single sheet of white printing paper as a reference. Generally, the resulting white colour is well balanced. After that I sometimes do a bit of tweaking in photoshop and lightroom.

I've been shooting long enough to where I can guess white balance + any adjustment with relative accuracy.

Shot at the 3rd annual LPC Tipoff Classic held at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA.

LPC Hawks beat Gavilan 82-58 to move on to the semi-finals.

Strobist: SB600 and SB800 set to 1/2 power. Fired using pocket wizards. Each flash was about five feet above the hoop, about 10 feet behind it, and about 20 feet apart.

auto, shoot RAW, adjust in Aperture.

That's what I used to do, but now I prefer to do some pre-white balancing. Of course, I do some post-white balancing to achieve an even better result.

Yeah. Leave AWB on, it gets it right under daylight, and it screws it up under artificial lighting, but I shoot RAW so I just fix it in post.

Too true. I find that it works quite well with daylight. However, artificial light (especially incandescent) throws the white balance off so far that it looks downright wrong.

I guess I could say the same. I recently acquired a Canon EOS 40D and it lets me set the white balance. I find it quite useful when I shoot under artificial light. crazzy88ss:b> Great photos! Did the flashes distract any of the players:p:p
