Songbird 1.0

Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that's under active development.

We're working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music. There are lots of ways to contribute your time to the project. We'd love your help!

There are several features we're proud of, but we'll be the first to admit that others need ironing out, are experimental, or are just plain missing. There's still a lot to do.

^ so its still heavy on resources? :(

I personally haven't tried it yet, but according to the folks @ Lifehacker, it is.

The official 1.0 release fixes most if not all of the bugs I came across in my initial review, which is very promising. The footprint is still a little unwieldy, weighing in at just over 100MB of RAM on the Windows PC I tested it on.

What? The resource consumption with Songbird 1.0 is better than all past versions. 100MB is nothing, Firefox and iTunes each use over 250MB respectively.

Gotta love this Songbird milestone release. I can't even reach the Add-ons area without 500 internal server errors.

Servers are banging already?! DAYMMNN :rofl:

i don't understand why anyone would want firefox as a media player. IMO the audio quality is terrible and the amount of ram it takes, and how unrespsonsive it is imakes it now worht it. This thing IMO makes itunes on windows look good...

stick with winamp or foobar

don't be silly it doesn't ... in iTunes the controls are on the top, in Songbird the controls are down the bottom ... wait i think someone did to apple before :p

btw, any chance of moving the playback control to the top? the bottom feels weird..... :wacko:

edit -> found it, nvm
