MiG-
I am pretty sure it's definitely NOT written in java...it's based off of firefox... The folder is full of .jar files and .js files. Gotta be in there somewhere. The UI definitely smells of Java too. Calum Veteran Posted December 2, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Looks like itunes. You say that like it's a bad thing  It is a bad thing for us Windows users ;) Looks neat on Mac OS X though of course :D By the way bb10, you can get skins/themes for this and they said you can make it have the look and feel of your OS, so I'm hoping there is a nice theme that integrates well with Windows Vista! :D I love what I've seen and read about the functionality of this, especially the ability to get lyrics really easily, the support for all iTunes store files (even DRM'd ones) and support for iPods (iPhone and iPod touch support on the way ;)) One thing, however, I cannot seem to get it to import and play my iTunes library! :/ :( It seems to import the files (incorrectly might I add because ratings are not imported and it said it would) yet it gives me a "Songbird encountered a playback error" message every time I click on a song :( Does anybody else have this problem? I'd love to start using this as my main media player, it seems like it actually has potential to beat iTunes as the best media player (my opinion) especially if the bloat is not an issue with Songbird. I find it funny how they've actually managed to create a default skin which actually somehow looks worse than iTunes on Windows :p I also love the potential for addons and extensions - there are some useful ones already! http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081...itunes-wmp.html Edited December 2, 2008 by cJr. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/705306-songbird-10-release/page/2/#findComment-590216022 Share on other sites
ViperAFK
the old black skin they had was way better than this ugly itunes clone. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/705306-songbird-10-release/page/2/#findComment-590216070 Share on other sites
Napalm Frog
the old black skin they had was way better than this ugly itunes clone. +1 I've grown away from big media programs like this. I don't even have premade playlists, I just open up files straight from my music directory whenever I have an urge to listen to something, and will create a onetime playlist. Thus bulky things like media player, itunes, or songbird are way too clumsy. I just stick with Foobar. tsupersonic
How is the performance? I thought this was supposed to replace iTunes, but I hate how iTunes is a RAM/CPU hog, and last time I used Songbird, it was just as bad of a RAM/CPU hog as iTunes. Calum Veteran Posted December 2, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2008 I went ahead and tried it out and am pleased with its response time, but it's far more gray than I like, and it looks too much like iTunes for my taste. You can download themes (in Songbird they are called 'feathers') for Songbird :) Some are really nice! :) what firmware since 2.1 i think i have not be able to get winamp or songbird to see my ipod touch i still cant get songbird /winamp to see my ipod with firmware 2.2 :( Support for the iPod touch and iPhone is coming soon apparently :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/705306-songbird-10-release/page/2/#findComment-590216462 Share on other sites
afusion
I got a iPod 4G I'm not using (reason is because of iTunes rofl) When I get my new comp built I'll slap this on and see how my ipod does. revvo
oh, looks interesting, but it's not that UI that will make me switch from foobar. I would like to get rid of iTunes though, I'll give it a shot :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/705306-songbird-10-release/page/2/#findComment-590216798 Share on other sites

Calum Veteran Posted December 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks ViperAFK, this feather makes Songbird usable! It is actually a very good program in terms of features! I love how you can resize the docked artwork window! I don't think you can do that in iTunes. It's just mine not play literally 80% of my iTunes library which I have imported and it hasn't important all of the artwork :( Has anybody else has this problem? (I have ratings now just not artwork and most songs give an error when playing :() Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/705306-songbird-10-release/page/2/#findComment-590217354 Share on other sites
+M2Ys4U Subscriber¹ Posted December 3, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 3, 2008 The folder is full of .jar files and .js files.Gotta be in there somewhere. The UI definitely smells of Java too. .jar is just a renamed .zip with extra metadata. .js is Javascript, nothing to do with Java at all. Glowstick
Songbird is cool, but it really needs the Tracemonkey engine. There's a lot of Javascript glue. revvo
There's nothing wrong with javascript if it's done right, UI's more responsive than Java written ones, unless it uses SWT.
