ok, noone mentioned it but I will.. there seems to be a very important (at least for me) bug that made me revert back to the good old live messenger... the taskbar is not flashing when a new message comes through!!! is it only me?

Same here, I think it's Messenger Plus what cause that... :s But not sure.

Hey guys i have two Live accounts both of which I use with Messenger (one at a time and not using MSG Plus). However unlike 8.5 when I click the mail button instead of going to the inbox for the current account I get the inbox for the other address which I have signed out of. Similary once I sign in and use my second address, I cant directly access mail using the button in the first one without being presented with the following screen.

Anyone else have this, or know how to work around?

If you turn off Tabbed Chats in the preferences it'll make the taskbar flash again. It's a bug, Plus! is not 100% compatible with this new RC version.

There'll be an A-Patch or Mess.be patch soon enough :)

A-Patch light has been released: http://apatch.org

Indeed it is, it's been confirmed. You should uninstall until an updated version is released.

Wait.. does this one have windows live movie maker??

If anyone has downloaded it can you tell me if its way better???

I can't say that it's "way better", but I'll say that it's the newest addition to the Live Suite. So it's not going to be up-to-par with other programs.

I guess you use MP!L tabbed chats? It's a bug if you do, I had to get rid of them (N)

If tabbed chats and coloured names worked I'd love this WLM :p

So it has been two days since the initial release of Windows Live Messenger build 1202. There have been quite a few problems reported regarding compatibility issues with various pieces of software. However, I'm sure that you're enjoying this build as much as we are!

So this is what we do know:

>> Messenger Plus! Live is not compatible 100% with this new build. We've confirmed reports that there is issues with your taskbar not flashing when you receive a message, and this is due to Messenger Plus! Live and the changes that were made to build 1202. So at this point, we are recommending that you un-install Messenger Plus! Live until a compatible version is released. If you're like me and you cannot live without Messenger Plus! Live, then subscribe to our RSS feed and we'll let you know as soon the release is available to everyone.

>> The previous changes to the way the UI is coded has yet again been changed. Making it harder for skinners and programmers to update their pieces of work. However, TheBlasphemer and TheSteve are hard at work cracking the new protection. TB has also posted some information regarding the new protection, with some a snippet of information on how to workaround the new protection. TB has also noted that full documentation on the new workaround will be released to the public as soon as it's ready. Fellow programmers and skinners are working together to make sure the documentation will be easy to use.

>> Yesterday we reported some workarounds for those of you who are experiencing trouble signing into the new build of Windows Live Messenger. After further investigating the issues, we've received confirmation that AVG's Messenger Control is blocking the new build of Windows Live Messenger. We strongly recommend that you disable AVG until a release is made to the program that does not block the new build. We'll let you guys know when and if it is updated!

>> Once again, developer Ahmad is the first to release a patch for build 1202. Please note: This is not the full version of A-Patch. It's been released as a "light" version with 10 options. You can download it here Please be aware that using any type of patch is against Microsoft's Terms of Service.

Have you got screenshots of this please? I'm really interested in how this works and how it looks :) I am unable to install Windows 7 on my computer at this moment in time.

This is what they were talking about:

If you close the buddy list window, the user tile window (on the left) stays, so the taskbar icon stays and functions a lot like the notification icon used to. If you close the user tile window, the app exits. As I said though, this is very early integration and they're still ironing out the design here... I'm sure they're very interested to hear what people think.

Does anyone know where the webcam settings has disappeared too in this build? it was also missing in the previous build too. does this mean that Microsoft have removed the option to change your webcam settings whilst your on cam.. ie to tilt/rotate or change the brightness. This could be done in 8.5

Any ideas anyone :(

Aha! I see now. Thank you for the screenshot and information, Brandon. This implementation is very interesting and maybe needs to be tweaked somehow, but like you have said, the notification area really isn't the place for this and this implementation is better than having all this stuff in the notification area.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I had problems with what was the RC and now the final version of Messenger. Clicking the mail button just wont take me to my inbox without my details being re-entered. I was hoping that they'd address that. Ive tried it now on 3 machines and have the same issue.

    • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
