That's good cause no wonder i had to hide on busy pretty much 24/7 cause f*** that was annoying all these garbage songs and stuff people added as their sounds.

The thing is though, anybody could turn signature sounds off, so I don't see why everybody is complaining? :( Just because the majority of people didn't like it, I know at least 8 of my contacts who did (and those are just the ones who had Messenger 2009). When I told a few of my mates this feature had been removed they were nearly as disappointed as me :(

If Microsoft hadn't alreayd implemented this feature then maybe I would be less disappointed right now, but they way I see it is that a lot of people loved this feature! If you found it annoying you could mute certain contact's sounds or eveyones!

If it was because it was killing the servers and if that is the reason they removed this feature then fair enough, but I hope they just didn't remove this amazing optional feature just because some people didn't like it. It could be disabled! :blink:

Also, they appear to have reverted back to the old sign-in sound instead of the new softer one which sounded much better in my opinion :(

In Windows 7, what's the point of having 2 entries for Live Messenger in the superbar? Is there a way to disable the one that just shows your avatar as a thumbnail?

Have you got screenshots of this please? I'm really interested in how this works and how it looks :) I am unable to install Windows 7 on my computer at this moment in time.

ok, noone mentioned it but I will.. there seems to be a very important (at least for me) bug that made me revert back to the good old live messenger... the taskbar is not flashing when a new message comes through!!! is it only me?

does this build also have the issue with when selecting the mail button, it goes to www.msn.com? or has that been fixed now?

It goes to your Hotmail now :)

Also, the emoticon not displaying in your chat window 'bug' has been fixed.

Does clicking the mail button go straigh to the inbox? I installed and tried the RC version just yesterday and I was presented with another screen where I had to resign in. Thats why I uninstalled. Could a few people confirm. I might try it again.

Indeed it does, I was hoping that it would open Windows Live Mail instead of Windows Live Hotmail.

Just received word that this may be because you have the old beta build of Messenger Plus! Live installed? Can you confirm? Try uninstalling it and see if it works.

Indeed it does, I was hoping that it would open Windows Live Mail instead of Windows Live Hotmail.

It opens up Windows Live Mail for me (the desktop client). Maybe you need to make sure Windows Live Mail is your default Mail client (in the first page of it's options)?

Well, looks like there won't be no A-Patch or anything for awhile, since that workaround to the new protection in WLM 9.0 is gone.

Only when they reverse engineer the protection used on the layout files. Who really knows how long that can take to achieve, it's anyone's guess. Until then, this build of WLM 9.0 can't be patched.

Well for those who have missed it Windows Live Messenger RC has been released to the public. Now for those of you wondering whats the go with skins and patches here is a quick post to fill you in.

As most of us in the Messenger World predicted, Microsoft has removed the opening that allowed us to be able to edit Messengers layout files. The reason we were able to make patches work on the last build was because we were forcing Messenger to load the old layout files which are just simple xml and stylesheets.

In the RC build they have not only removed the ability to switch back to this old format, they have actually removed all of the old layout files altogether. So what does this mean for you the user of mods and skins?

Well before any of your favorite skins, patches or addons will work properly again the new format of layout files must be reverse engineered. Until then we are unable to apply any changes to the Messenger layout except replacing images. But this is virtually useless since the key to Messenger mods and patches lies within the layout files which we are locked out of at the moment.

So I ask for everyone to be patient and not to go around to forums asking when things are going to be back to normal. It is still not clear if things will be worked out quickly or if it will be a while before we see our mods up and running again. Rest assured the most brilliant minds in the Messenger world have already started work on bringing back the mods, skins and addons that we all know and love.

If you really can't live without this stuff then I recommend you don't get the new RC build and go back to Messenger 8.5.
