Link_of_Hyrule
Hey I was wondering if a build of IE8 RC1 has been released for Windows 7 I got a build for Vista but when I tried to install it it said Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with this operating system. xJakex
Windows 7 includes IE 8. Yeah it does but it's the beta version not the RC. I couldn't get it to work either, will have to wait it out. I use Firefox instead anyways. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/710960-ie8-rc1-in-windows-7/#findComment-590288666 Share on other sites
Link_of_Hyrule
lol yeh I was hoping to install it and maybe it wouldn't have that weird google homepage in new tab bug. Brandon Live Veteran Posted December 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2008 Yeah it does but it's the beta version not the RC. What do you mean by that? It's the build of IE 8 for that build of Windows. You can't install the Vista version of IE on Win7... Just like you can't install the XP version of IE 7 on Vista. Myrdhinn
Except the build number for ie8 in win 7 is different from the beta for vista so it's not the same. Maybe why it doesnt need the patch for the new IE exploit although I do wonder since vista with the sp2 beta won't accept the patch, so I'm assuming they are both possibly immune to the exploit. The upcoming beta release is not affected by that vulnerability. Those running a pre-beta build should probably make use of one of the workarounds described in the advisory (details here). Myrdhinn
Thanks Brandon... though it wasn't the win7 prebeta that worried me so much as those with vista running the sp2 beta. The patch put out won't work if you use the sp2 beta so I don't know if that means vista ie 7 or 8 beta 2 is vulnerable. George P Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted December 21, 2008 So anyone with the RC version of IE8 care to answer how it goes ram wise? IE7 was very good with ram but it seems IE8 has hit epic FF ram usage levels. I'm on beta 2 for IE8 btw. danisflying527
Did you get the RC from the website? Or "cough" torrent "cough"? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/710960-ie8-rc1-in-windows-7/#findComment-590297632 Share on other sites
sevensage
Well, I'm running Windows 7 on virtual PC and installed IE8 RC 1 with the above mentioned "trick", and the only problem I encountered was not being able to manage addons, other than that all seems fine so far, again I am doing this on virtual PC and dont really care about the outcome/effects to the system. I just wanted to see what IE8 RC1 was. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/710960-ie8-rc1-in-windows-7/#findComment-590311932 Share on other sites
freakyfriday
how do you repack the files again? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/710960-ie8-rc1-in-windows-7/#findComment-590479612 Share on other sites
Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2009 Please don't attempt that. As I alerady stated it is a terrible idea and will likely hose your system. The Vista version of IE was not meant to run on Win7.
