It's probably just a coincidence but sometime after installing Win7 (on its own drive) I noticed over 150GB missing on one of my other drives, even with hidden / system files enabled. I used the Disk Cleanup to remove any System Restore points and Shadow Copies but that only freed up around 20-30GB. It was only when I scheduled a chkdsk scan (which turned up nothing) that the space mysteriously reappeared. As I said, I very much doubt Win7 had anything to do with it but it certainly was an unusual issue and one I thought worth mentioning.

So no other laptop owners experienced the frozen mouse pointer on rebooot?

It's becoming increasingly annoying having to 9/10 restart my system twice in order to get the pointer working. I've uninstalled the OEM synaptics touchpad drivers and installed the newer ones directly from synaptics to no avail.

This now happens basically all the time and almost always after cold boots. Could it be a problem with shutdown? I've noticed shutdown is awful fast now and maybe its not closing services properly or something. Have they tweaked the timeout delay?

I haven't had any issues with my synaptics touchpad on my Dell Inspiron E1505 either using default drivers or the ones provided by Dell.

Weird I know. I was able to navigate to the Dev Manager via keyboard and whenever its frozen the dev manager reports "Device Cannot Start" Code 10.

As I said, a subsequent reboot always fixes it. Did not have this problem in build 6956 or 6801 so its really racking my head.

I see you also have a M1210. My touchpad never froze up. What is annoying is sometimes the pointer flickers a lot. I'm also running the 32-bit build with the latest touchpad driver supplied by Dell (see R141200)

look at the left bar in media player... cannot be dragged to right to reveal all text....

I think it's limited by the width of the WMP window. If you maximise or widen WMP you should be able to drag that pane to the right.

It's hard to say if this is a bug or not. It's frustrating that you can't just expand that pane but it's obviously not meant to take up too much space at the expense of other panes.

you are absolutely right. i jst maximized the player and it worked ! thanks

another bug i have found is that i have enabled "Automaticaly type in search box" option in folder and search option dialog. but whenever i type something it doesn't automatically types in search box instead it selects the folder or file representing the name. i hope u guys get the point... i want it to automatically type in serach box instead of selecting folders which is the default option...

I don't know if it is a Windows 7 or a Adobe bug. I installed Acrobat Reader 9 and everytime I open a PDF document inside the browser (Chrome, FF) a blank error or info window opens up with just one OK button and nothing else inside.

Here is a screenshot: PDF Bug

Have been getting this problem since day 1 and it's really been bugging us!!! Anyone managed to resolve it?

Is anyone noticing a slow start-up time? When I first installed Windows 7, it started up quick (less than a minute). Even when I installed my antivirus (AVG), it was still really quick. Now, my startup time takes 1 minute and 47 seconds. This is absolutely horrible. I haven't installed any new software. Actually, I haven't even touched Windows 7 in over a week.

Why does this happen? The same thing happened to me with Vista. I remember having full cold boots in under 30 seconds. Then, like overnight, the startup times more than doubled (and stayed that way. Even after a new clean install.) My HDD is fine, so this really makes no sense.

Am I the only one?

Do you have any USB device turned on during boot ? Maybe a scanner, ipod, etc... If so, try disconnecting these devices.

Has anyone had the problem with windows live messenger showing contacts online whilst they're in fact offline?

Also I found a fix/hack guide for gadgets not working when UAC is turned off. Check out the link below and follow the instructions.

LOL

That fix is beyond stupid. If you guys want a REAL fix I'll be posting one up on my blog in about an hour. And no, mine doesn't involve replacing files.

Edit: OK Posted the fix

Installed W7 flawlessly on my laptop (Dell XPS M1330) earlier today.

Fiddled around abit with it, installed Live Essentials, winrar, synaptic touchpad drivers (to get scrollbars to work), installed firefox, installed flash, installed adobe acrobat reader, installed mirc, installed nonamescript.

Fired up Live Messenger and signed in without problems.

Fired up iexplorer, ran through the "meet n greet" screen where i configured it, surfed around abit then shut it down for a restart.

Restarted computer and logged back into windows.

Messenger wont sign in, claims that ports are closed (they arent..)

iExplorer wont show any sites, tells me there is something wrong with the connection to internet.

It runs the wizard to detect problems with the Network settings, it cant find any.

I can connect to the internet just fine with mIRC and firefox.

Tried disabling windows firewall without any luck.

Also went through various solutions via Live Messenger help without any luck.

Anyone experienced something similar? I can restore to an earlier state , and probably will. This is just puzzling me abit.. :)

Been running Windows 7 since the public release and just ran into this problem today. Last night when I shut down Windows everything was working normal. When I started up the system today I was getting the same problem with the same results. Booting into XP there was no problem with messenger connecting or IE and the server status said everything was up and running. Booting back into Win7 still had the problem, messenger couldn't make a connection as well as IE. Then a couple hours later the problem just mysteriously went away...

I also noticed that all my system restore points before today had vanished into thin air... I normally will make a manual restore point before installing any program just in case something goes wrong (saved my ass tons of times in WinXP). Where did my restore points go? Weird. All my restore points from today are showing and I set the allowed restore drive space to just over 100GB so there's plenty of space for many restore points. Maybe there's a bug once it gets to so many restore points they erase themselves or become corrupted? I'll keep an eye on this see if it happens again as I make many restore points, especially as I setup a new OS install....

Did you use Disk Cleanup on your primary drive? Certain options can remove backup files.

    • Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced that Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available to all users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Planner Agent is the latest addition in the string of AI features that Microsoft is implementing across virtually all of its products. The agent lets you manage tasks through natural language prompts directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. You can create and update tasks, check priorities, and get insights about current entries without leaving the chat interface. The general availability release comes with a handful of new additions on top of what was available during the initial rollout. A new plan picker lets you search and filter your plans by name, then update task names, statuses, due dates, or priorities through the agent. There's also a goals bucket now, which lets you group tasks under specific goals. This builds on the Goals view, a feature that was introduced as part of the broader Planner refresh that rolled out earlier. Image: Microsoft | Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot All AI-generated plans and tasks are created in draft mode by default, so you can review and approve changes before anything goes through. This is actually a thoughtful safety feature, because trusting AI to handle all your tasks without a human in the loop is usually a recipe for disaster. Having tasks initially saved as drafts is the best possible middle ground. Microsoft also says that not all tasks are executed equally. Simple tasks get processed quickly, while more complex ones, like building a plan from a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file, are handed to a more capable model. Microsoft says this approach delivers the best performance, but it could also help with usage management, as you won't have to waste tokens on performing simple tasks. Planner Agent is available now across Teams, Loop, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps for anyone on a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
    • To be clear I'm anti trump, the bigger point is why review this game at all?
    • Trillion dollar Microsoft has to reduce spending by hurting more people. Good job Microsoft. Good Job Asha.
    • That's a shame. The big Xbox reset when Phil and Sarah left and then Asha came on and brought a new team of executives, and all the layoffs last year and saying that the ABK merger wouldn't result in redundancies I am surprised they are calling for yet another reset and yet more layoffs.
