Windows 7 bugs

i get these disk error messages and i cannot delete anything and everything seems to be corrupt. running chkdsk doesnt help.

I had problems the first time installed w7, i thought i would re-install it to see if the problems would go away but the problems were still there.

is there any solution??

I have this bug when right clicking an item inside Libraries...I think I saw the issue in another place, but the only one I remember and I can reproduce is inside Libraries...the space where normally you would find the icons for programs like WINRAR is made about the same size of folder's name...also, icons are not being displayed...

Yes, I am getting it also. I think it is an Adobe problem.

Yes, we are. I see many of these bugs in the official list on Connect. However, if it is caused by third party software it will be closed external and MS will forward it to the developer of the software or hardware.

Turn off WinRAR's context menu icons for now. At least the menu won't be that fat.

I also noticed that all my system restore points before today had vanished into thin air... I normally will make a manual restore point before installing any program just in case something goes wrong (saved my ass tons of times in WinXP). Where did my restore points go? Weird. All my restore points from today are showing and I set the allowed restore drive space to just over 100GB so there's plenty of space for many restore points. Maybe there's a bug once it gets to so many restore points they erase themselves or become corrupted? I'll keep an eye on this see if it happens again as I make many restore points, especially as I setup a new OS install....

Booting to XP will delete all Vista/7 restore points because system restore works differently on XP. It is not a bug.

They can say it's not a bug because it isn't. Like they said restore points on xp/vista/w7 all work differently to each other. That's computer science and nothing can be done about it.

That's a bug, but not a fixable one. That is entirely XP's problem; a fix will require patching up its kernel.

by far the most annoying thing about windows 7 is the fact that you can't add removable drives to libraries. it is a bug i suppose because the documentation says you can add remoavble drives. i'm guessing the feature might get added in a later version.

if not then it will be the biggest disappointment in windows 7 (plus the fact you can't add network shares either).

Anyone know why my ATI 1900 fan kicks into overdrive when running Win 7? Its acting like I am running Crysis or something but its just on the desktop, sounds like a jet engine. Any ideas?

I wouldn't say this is a bug, but it's still annoying: when I set up my pictures Library to look like this:

all of my windows then look like this:

I mean, what's going on? Why would I want the view I configured in my Pictures Library to apply to all folders? It's useless!

Its not a bug because thats how it works . :) This problem occurs because the volume snapshot driver that is included with Vista uses disk structures that are incompatible with earlier versions of Windows. Therefore, the earlier operating system deletes Vista shadow copies with the associated restore points. This behavior occurs because the earlier Windows operating systems do not recognize the new disk structures.

2 things I have a problwm with,

I liked the old Quick launch feature of xp, I read you can get it with Win7 and you can easily BUT when I restart - the toolbar is back to normal and i can set it up with quick launch again but it is gone on the next bootup.

I have the same problem with desktop icons I move one or two to where i want them but they move back on restart.

when you reopen explorer it doesn?t save preview pane user preferences...it?s happening to me too.

I just fired up a powerpoint presentation from a e-mail. When it sinished, the powerpoint icon is still in the taskbar. Tried to close it but it won't close. Using utimate x64 and office 2007 (x86).

I understand that it may come from office and not from W7.

That's a huge issue. Why was this not addressed with XP SP3 or through Windows Update? Even without that surely it would be possible for Vista / Win7 to apply some write-protection to prevent it? I'm surprised I hadn't heard about this issue before.

Using Bitlocker sort of solves this issue... but i think its only available in Ultimate Edition ... I dont know exact features of different editions and also not bothered to confirm it right now

But doesn't Bitlocker require a TPM chip? I haven't followed it closely but it's definitely not the nicest of workarounds.

I have found why some files were being corrupted, AVG was not closing proprerly at shutdown and causing a dirty shutdown.

The system event viewer showed a critical error on almost every boot. Solution : get rid of AVG.. clean system event viewer now.

Am now running Antivir, would rather have AVG.. anyone have this problem and find a way to keep AVG?

Windows 7 does not show thumbnails for MP3 songs [Vista shows the album art] neither WMP12 does.

Anyway to fix this same file art is showm in WMP11 in xp, that in vista and vista explorere

Problems I have so far:

My ATI 1600 is acting like its running Crysis, with its fan on full power even sitting on the desktop.

In the 64 bit version my belkin wireless card performs awfully. Constantly dropping out and back in without warning.

Things I personally don't like:

Not much, if I was going to be picky it would be the library's. I cant seem to find a way of chaning the music location. In Vista I right click on music in the start menu and change its location to my other HD. In Win7 it just allows me to choose another library location. Which Is fine, but sometimes I have to wade through the library menu just to get to my documents and of course iTunes isnt compatable with it just yet, which is fair play.

Things I love:

Speed. Its alot faster than Vista, both in booting and shutdown. Not to mention general performance. Loving the new taskbar also. (Y)

If anyone can help me solve the top 2 problems I would be using it more, but I'm using Vista now, just to stop my PC from sounding like a Jet engine and the ability to use the internet without constant disconnections.

Very strange bug for me. (bug or not...I never seen this behavior with xp or vista)

Every time I try to connect/disconnect a video Device (via IEEE1394), windows 7 reboots (or BSOD).

Video capture doesn't work for me in all my apps. Any ideas how to fix?
