thats weird co on the Windows 7 FAQ they state "Your product key will work for up to three separate computers, so if you want to install the Windows 7 Beta on another PC, you can re-use the same key. "

if they are all the same keys MS should have just listed them on their website, saving a whole load of hassle.

I agree but at that point why even use keys at all?? Lmfao.

I noticed that the redmond developer blog put up an update on whats going on. It has about 3 sentences talking about the truth, the other 5 paragraphs are about how to sign up for technet plus on a discount. Anyone else think they did this just to get more technet members?? I am starting to think so after reading that.

"Due to very heavy traffic we?re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta," wrote Brandon LeBlanc. He promised to post further notice on the blog.

Microsoft is offering a discount of 15 percent for new TechNet Plus subscribers using a discount code, according to this blog. TechNet Plus and MSDN subscribers also face an expiration date of Aug. 1, 2009 when trying out the new Windows 7 Beta.

Honestly anybody who likes or even works with microsoft products i think should buy a technet membership .ITs very helpful when diagnosing problems along with the early betas and full products you get.

I got the beta when ballmer announced it and have had n oproblems getting keys for it.

allways get the same message "Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal -- we?re in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We?re sorry for the delay and we?ll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience."

just need the freeking key!

are there drivers released for windows 7? will the ones for vista work in w7? drivers for internet, sound & video, will i be stuck when it comes to drivers being compatible?

Windows 7 uses the same drivers as Vista, so you shouldn't have a problem.

The only issue I had was driver installer programs panicked with "Unknown windows version" but 7 asked if it worked, I said no, so it automagically restarted the program in Vista compatibility mode which solved it.

Mind you, the nvidia driver in Win7 is a beta too, and not working so well for my 8600GT (cant set res to 1680x1050!)

im guessing i would definitely have problems then since i only have a 6600GT card

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
