CAIRO shell Alpha test begins January 15th 2009!

Question

just thought i would let people know that the countdown has begun over at http://cairoshell.com/ for January 15th for the Milestone 1 Alpha test of Cairo shell. If you are asking how do i know that the countdown is for the alpha its simple i read it on their forum

Link

Honestly i think that this project has great potential however it has taken them a long time to get where they are (even though they did lose all their data a while back)

I cannot wait until there is an open beta or the final release i think it will be great.

1) Cairo was originally announced mid-2007 and development of the current code base started June 2008

2) Yes, M1 really is out.

3) The old concept shots linked here truly are "ugly as sin." Anyone with access to M1 will probably tell you that it looks MUCH better in the current build than it ever used to. It's quite beautiful now.

4) The person who leaked Cairo M1 has been caught, banned from the site, and removed from the alpha test, even if he donated. His loss, to be honest. He won't be getting any newer builds. Each tester has its own unique ID which is embedded into the code.

5) Most of Cairo is not a menu.

Review with 19 screenshots.

Atleast we know it's real, maybe this is good afterall.

Where's the shell? I see Windows 7 with a gray menu on the top of the screen. And that's the only thing on that site. :shiftyninja:

As an Alpha Tester, I received the Cairo program about 4 hours ago. Although still in Alpha Stage (with only some of the features implimented), I can assure you that the Cairo Shell is NOT Vaporware, nor is it a Mac ripoff, as another poster suggested. The Private Alpha Testing will continue for 30 days. After a few months (perhaps three, perhaps more) Cairo will go into PUBLIC BETA.

As a freeware program designed and created by a very small team, you shouldn't be bitching about the long delay. These devs are real people, with real jobs, girlfriends, and a life. They are doing this without payment. Yes, people have donated, but were never required to do so. They donated because they believed in the project (or they wanted a slot in the alpha-testing...let's be frank, some people thought that 5 bux was small payment to get in on the testing early)

Although I cannot divulge much 'behind the scenes' information, any public information/screenshots/discussion is still available for your perusale at the Cairo site.

Stick around, the best is yet to come (and yes, there is LOTS more).

BTW, it runs quite well under Windows 7 build 7000 :)

We're not so much 'bitching.' We just don't care REALLY HARD. :)

From the About page on Winsider:

"This is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can create as many pages like this one or sub-pages as you like and manage all of your content inside of WordPress."

Did someone just throw the page up as a fake review? It even has the same color scheme as the Cairo site.

Don't think so, was a guy a couple pages back who downloaded it off a torrent and probably didn't want it residing on his real website.

How could you doubt the credibility of 1 day old free wordpress blog with a single post and heavily distorted screenshots.

Fine guys, If you want me to upload the screenshots again (I screwed it up) I will. But people were B!tching about me hosting the screenshots :/

What can I say? I just uploaded it as my first post? Do you want me to leak the actual alpha link, again, and get heavily spammed with Bad comments?

I can "un" heavily distort them. They are still on the server.

And the Explorer is blanked out so you cant click it, and the Multi-Desktop or Extensions functions.

EDIT : Here is one comment : "You are an idiot for leaking pictures of Cairo. It's a private alpha. PRIVATE! It's people like you who make this world a worse place. Get a life."

No matter what site you upload them to, we can still get them taken down because it is leaked material that is against the agreement that you chose "Agree" to when you installed Cairo.

Ok ^ Thats fine with me.. I just think its stupid that no one can post Screenshots and see what its like, because tbh, your screenshots on your websites dont look as good as teh current M1 Build, and people think its vaporware.

Got something to hide? Like the fact that it's a piece of crap?

Pfft. Any site? You know thats not true.

And besides, why wouldn't you want screenshots out there? You want people to support you and use your product, right?

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
