Breaking News : Steve Jobs Steps down from running day to day operations at Apple.

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2009/01/14/app...ave-of-absence/

"Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal

with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health

continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else

at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my

health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to

allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have

decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and

I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As

CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our

board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve"

That's sad to hear, I hope that Steve makes a full recovery. I am sure that Tim Cook will do a good job in managing Apple's day-to-day operations.

Well he's already proven his mettle back in 2004.

Still, I hope this won't be a long-term move.

Should be on the Main News page, IMHO.

Already is: https://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/01/14/s...eave-of-absence :)

Here's what's rather reassuring, though I hope not just as stock-related damage control:

i wonder how apple and their future inovations will be like without steve jobs at the help :/

His vision is shared by his team. The culture at Apple, as far as we can tell now, is very much in line with Jobs' vision.

Pretty much all the talent is at Apple.

God who cares, im sick of all this sucking up to Apple like its the 2nd coming of Christ, no one would care if the CEO of Intel or Nvidia stepped down.

Yes its sad that hes got health issues but people are making far too big a deal of it.

This really is sad to hear! :(

I hope Steve comes back stronger than ever in June :p

I always loved his keynotes and everything and he is a fantastic CEO! He has made Apple really! I would be sad if he ever had to fully step down from being CEO :(

Steve Jobs is a special case.

Without him computing would still be in the Dark Ages.

Are you kidding me? Computing would also be in the Dark Ages without Bill Gates, Gordon Moore and the founders of Google, among many, many others. Steve Jobs is just another player among many important individuals in the history of computing. Yes, it's sad that Steve Jobs is temporarily leaving Apple (until June), but honestly, he is not some sort of God or superhuman. If he was to die tomorrow, Apple would be fine. They would continue to operate a very successful and profitable corporation.

Frankly, maybe with Steve Jobs gone for the time being, the MacBook will see FireWire return.

Steve Jobs is a special case.

Without him computing would still be in the Dark Ages.

How so?

Windows marketshare is approx 90%, is Steve Jobs that much of a prophet to you that you think he would influence anything like large?

Either way i dont want to turn this into an argument, i just feel that Mac fans take stuff like this WAYYYY OTT.

It's all a conspiracy. First Gates steps down as CEO to focus on his "philanthropy" and now Jobs steps down because of "medical conditions". They probably bought an island somewhere in the Pacific and are going to disappear there and laugh at the rest of the world that made them the wealthy men they are... :shiftyninja: :p

All jokes aside I hope they figure out what's ailing him and he gets well soon.

i knew he was probably sicker than he let on !

between him and partick swayze i don't expect to hear good news sometime this year ! :(

    • Nah. They'll milk the current generation in terms of design - controllers, consoles, but no meaningful hardware improvements. This is one reason why people aren't buying Xbox hardware - it's stagnant.
    • Funny, but I didn't had the issue. All PC's at work are Dell and we had the culprit version of Support Assist for about 2 weeks until we got the new one. No problem at all. And for checking you can also use Dell Command Update, no need to search in windows settings. Just check the Upgrade History.
    • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS
