Circuit City fails to be wanted, will now be liquidated

dont count on it, i had an interview with best buy for the geek squad and there were tons of other applicants present. with the unemployment rate the way it is even getting into an interview is tough. i heard for every job posted there are at least 300 + applicants so your chances of getting called is like picking a needle out of a haystack.

This puts me at ease...

Wow.. this sucks. I'd rather shop at CC instead of Bestbuy. :(

I totally agree..

I pre ordered a game, they slapped me with 10 gift card, and then they deducted $10 from the game, real smart!!

I better use this $10 or I am screwed.

This sucks balls. As soon as I walked into work today, everybody looked depressed. Manager told me to stop taking in customer PC's and finish up on the ones that are here. Add me to America's growing unemployment list...

Time to switch over to the morally depressing Geek Squad...

Good luck, they have froze all new hirings and are laying off as many people as possible right now. BBY Corporate started the VSP (Vol. Sep. Prog.) and they only got half of what they were expecting (500 out of 1000) so now people like me get laid off for some greedy snob in a tie.

I worked as a Fire Dog Manager and our store was doing GREAT until Managment got greedy, then it went down hill and I quit.

well was just reading our local paper... Guess I kind of found the answer to my question.

No timeline was given by Circuit City for the liquidation of inventory and assets. It already has received approval from a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge to proceed with a going-out-of-business sale if it could not find a buyer.

We have a 40,000 sq ft. Supercenter here.. So big blow to us

A lot of the Circuit City stores I've visited except for Hollywood have very terrible service. I live right by it and so many good workers have been disappearing but the guys I'm familiar with are very good with their service. The worst I've experienced are Northridge, Palmdale, Lancaster, and Burbank. I choose this over Best Buy because they are a bunch of con artists.

Now I'm all Amazon and Newegg. Only exceptions are my parents' erratic behavior forcing me to look for savings there.

we shall see what kind of "sales" they have. it just sucks that best buy will rule the market now and they have the highest prices around. i miss compusa with a freaking passion !

Best Buy will not rule the market, they still have to deal with Target, Wal-Mart, etc...

You would be amazed at how horrible BBY is doing as well, internally speaking.

target & walmart ? are you kidding me ? they barely sell anything worthwhile there.

No wonder i didn't get hired when the manager and i was getting along so well :(. I thought i definitely nailed that interview but seems now he'll be looking for a job too.

Sux big time...

cc knew for awhile that they would be closing shop. why would they of even given you an interview ? was this recently ?

It's not about what they sell it's about how much they sell.

They also have other departments to keep them afloat whereas BBY only has electronics and car audio (which is why pilot stores all over the country are trying different layouts, etc)...they are trying desperatley to figure out a new way to redo big box electronic retail.

But hey, why believe me, I'm only getting this stuff from the Employee Tool Kit and all store meetings that we have. :D

lol.. yeah last week wednesday. I dunno... but i figured i'd go anyways and do the interview even though i knew they were in trouble. A few months of work would still be good, even if it's just to get a few paychecks.

i agree man, ive been out of work a year now and busting my butt looking for something is almost impossible. ive never seen it as bad out there job wise as it is now !

Lucky for me I kept a second job for any just in case moments because I saw the stock going to ISH and sure enough it did and every person freaked out and stopped spending what so ever.

So anyway, I'm still employeed at another job, but laid off from Geek Squad at the moment and they already had nilch coverage as it is...my DCI was ****ed as well as the GM that they have to wait until March 1st to get me back on.

Walmart is Best Buy's biggest threat, you have no idea how much pressure they're putting on them.

Eh... I'm just still so bugged out. Our store was #3 in the company. We made nothing but straight profit. All the work and effort we put into this store, it's all for nothing. I've been the only technician in this store for the past few months (my partner had to transfer due to financial issues and mortgage) and the ammount of work I've had to do at once was overwhelming. Why I continued to go through with this I don't know, but I did. Maybe I just didn't want to see this store fall, knowing that so many managers, employees, and most importantly, customers were relying solely on me. A customer baked me cookies for fixing her computer and "saving her life", how could that not put a smile on my face?!

I guess it's time to pack up though. The ammount of experience and relations I've gained working for Circuit City has been phenomenal. I don't care who hates Circuit City or bids it good riddiance, I enjoyed it. Just a few mistakes made by people in closed corporate closed doors, and look at what happens to a good company. It's going to be upsetting having customers come in only to have me tell them that I can't fix their computer.

The only thing that will really have me worried is finding a new job. As sad is it really sounds, I can see myself flipping burgers sometime soon.

Sorry for the small soapbox rant.

I was the lead technician at my location for a long time, and only quit around July of last year for school. I know what you mean. I did enjoy my time there and I loved my co-workers.

This is just the way it goes though.

    • The fact that memory in general is so high I have to take a loan out to build a computer now is just beyond stupid. Who's really to blame here? Low supply or high demand?
    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk. WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
