Circuit City fails to be wanted, will now be liquidated

Recommended Posts

I was the lead technician at my location for a long time, and only quit around July of last year for school. I know what you mean. I did enjoy my time there and I loved my co-workers.

This is just the way it goes though.

same, I worked at one of the stores in Atlanta that closed in December. I only worked at Circuit City for like 2 years, but I can't complain, I was able to get countless games for fre-$10, got my intel retail edge discount which got me a quad core, 2 tvs for 60% off, and my crown jewel a HP home server for $150 during the liquidation sale. So I definately got alot of stuff out of the company while i was there.

phil schoonover and the board are the most incompetent managers I have ever seen in my entire working life.

I've predicted in the future, all retail stores will be one giant one. None of these stores can compete with the online stores. Not when they're hella cheap.

Anybody remember stores like Montgomery Ward & Best (before Best Buy came about)? The Good Guys & CompUSA went out a few years ago. Heck I'm still surprise Sears & K-Mart are still around.

Times are changing. The economy & the internet will effect how we'll buy stuff in the future.

how much do they pay the pc techs at best buy and CC anyways ?

kmart = sears now ! they will be gone too i imagine. i think most shopping malls and retail stores will close shop in the upcoming years. most transactions are done online anyways !

You know it's coming back full circle.. Look at it.. All the Mom and Pop stores got put out of business by the Big Stores... Now those big stores will be closing, because of high costs, but some people still want to buy in person and not online, which means the mom and pop stores will start opening back up to take care of those needs..

BTW for those of you who work at Circuit City.. Is there any talks on when stores will actually close? Or is this just the first talk about it, and it could be months down the road before it actually happens?

i heard a report of by august this year !

Maybe they can get a Government Bailout???

 ....sorry that's too funny !

something has got to be done in this country and quick. we need jobs now, not 5 years from now. i pray the new president will turn this around and quick. i mean the unemployment rate is at an all time high right now. not to mention the foreclosure, bankruptcy, debt, repossession rates as well. what sickens me the most is that alot of people still get denied unemployment benefits and medical benefits from these companies and the states. i fear if this situation doesn't turn around and quick here in the states we are in for some BIG problems !

Cho Stoppa will definitely be saving some more money.

as i SAID i heard a rumor !

looks like im going shopping tomorrow !

Don't shop tomorrow... prices start off at MSRP. They won't drop until near the end of liquidation.

I'm an employee at The Source By Circuit City, and I'm working right now actually. We've had about four customers in the last two hours, and plenty of people who believe that we're closing down, and they're trying to headhunt great deals. I hate the company, though, so I'm having a beer tonight with a co-worker to celebrate the misfortune of Circuit City and The Source. I'm in the middle of finding a new job anyway, so I'm hoping that the Canadian stores will follow suit and fold, although this seems extremely unlikely. Rothschild & Sons are advising a bidding process that should be starting next week.

so when should we start shopping? hehe i want some good deals.

don't expect anything. just like you, thousands of other people will swoop into the stores like vultures. However you have to realize that whatever you want, whatever price you want to pay, somebody else is more than likely willing to spend more. since every price is getting jacked up to msrp first, most items won't reach the price they were in stores until like 40-50% off, by that time alot of things will be gone. Once stuff starts to get real cheap like 60-70% off then you'll get into the mindset of oh i'll wait 10% more to see or OMG it's still cheaper on amazon. just remember what price you set in your mind to pay or something, somebody else will pay higher.

i don't think every store will be closed that fast ?
If the liquidators do their job it will.
when is the best time to go on a shopping spree in CC? Tomorrow...? Next week/month?..
I went tonight. I had a gift card to burn and, seriously, even though they had every thing in stock, I still couldn't find anything that seemed like it was worth buying. It's no wonder they're going out of business.

I wouldn't bother waiting very long. There will be nothing left fairly soon, I'd guess.

I ended up with an APC Battery backup and a handful of DVDs.

    • So, recently, I saw on the news (yes, on this website) that Samsung is introducing features where it can provide education using AI-powered sets, and because of this, I got concerned about whether the AI gives out wrong info during education sessions, causing controversies in the process. What are your thoughts on this?
    • TCL's Bang & Olufsen soundbar is 40% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The TCL Design Series A65K is currently $299.99, down from $499.99. That's 40% off and $200 saved on a soundbar tuned by Bang & Olufsen, which is not a combination you'd normally expect at this price point (purchase link below). Bang & Olufsen doesn't typically show up in the sub-$500 category. The Danish audio brand is known for speakers that cost several times more, so having their acoustic tuning on a $300 soundbar is very appealing. TCL handles the hardware, B&O handles the sound engineering, and the result is what the company calls "accessible luxury." Still, accessible luxury isn’t full-fledged luxury, so don’t expect wonders. But this is a decent soundbar, nevertheless. The A65K is a true 3.1.2 channel system with nine physical drivers, including genuine up-firing height speakers for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Many soundbars at this price simulate overhead effects through virtual processing, rather than actual hardware. So, you’re getting the real deal. The design is unusually slim for a system with Atmos compatibility. The bar is just under 2 inches deep and should fit beneath most TV screens. The wireless subwoofer is also compact at roughly 14 x 14 x 5 inches. Total output is 460W, and you can connect to the soundbar via HDMI eARC, Bluetooth 5.3, or USB. There are also eight sound modes through the TCL Home app and an AI calibration capability. Although it’s worth mentioning that AI capabilities in most of these devices are inconsistent, to say the least, and that shouldn’t be the biggest selling point. Still, at $299.99, the A65K is a strong buy for anyone who wants a soundbar that sounds and looks noticeably better than what this price range usually offers. And the Bang & Olufsen branding surely sounds nice - pun intended.
