Circuit City fails to be wanted, will now be liquidated

Recommended Posts

if you wait too long all of the merchandise will be gone man. i miss the heck outta compusa, they had really good deals and at least the people who worked there knew what they were talking about !

Sadly, the problem lies with Stupid consumers that they try to fool like in the video I just posted above.

They think it's going out of Business, it must be cheap. It's NOT. Again, watch the video if you haven't already.

Liquidation is a scheme in the early on, 10-20% is meaningless. So, I hope people don't foolishly buy those at those prices, but unfortunately, there aren't all smart consumers! :(

Real good prices, are the ones that's comparable to Black Friday prices not much more!!!

so you work for a CC right now ? when will the good deals start then man ? im in the market for a new hp desktop or lcd monitor !

no I worked at the ones that closed during December and like I told a previous poster don't expect anything. You and a million other people want a desktop/laptop and they are the slowest things in the store to drop. laptops stayed 5% for like a month at our store. Like I told the other poster, remember whatever price you're willling to pay somebody else is willing to pay more. The sad truth is unless you know somebody that works at a CC that can hide some stuff for you you're not getting a good del.

I highly doubt any of their sales will be good Right NOW. 1st day probably mostly 10% off... 20% at most, but not many at all.

I strongly urge people to wait until it's really cheap! So, we can all benefit from Lower prices!

Seeing a 2-years old Xbox 360 game (For example) soldout for $35 is just Dumb, IMO.

Compare it with past Black friday prices. I wouldn't buy anything that's 25%+ more than Black Friday prices. Especially stuff that wasn't sold out on BF even at 9-10am.

I didn't take a look at TVs or computers, but everything else was the same exact price. NOTHING changed at all. It does say with a note in the front, ALL SALES ARE FINAL and NO CHECKS, ONLY CASH & CREDIT. What a waste of time.

If you do wait long enough for the price to drop, there won't be anything worthy left. There will always be people who are willing to buy it at a higher price than what you prefer to pay. So by the time the price is down to what you would consider, there's nothing left. I'm sticking with online shopping.

I am just going by my Black Friday standards, I'll tolerate 25-30% difference at MOST, depends on how Hot the stuff is on Black Friday.

Like for example. Blu-rays for $15 on Black Friday, I will buy it for $18.75 (25%) - $20(30%) at CC No I won't spend $20+ on them!

I just got back from their first day of liquidation. Allow me to vent for 5 minutes....

Now, I know they are working minimal staff. I noticed this immediately as their are no security people anymore. First, there was absolutely NO liquidation sale pricing anywhere. I felt sorry for the staff as they sttod there repeating the same phrase over and over "Everything is 10% off, accessories 30% off, blah, blah blah...". So, basically, to find out pricing you needed to huddle around an employee. God help anyone who needed real assistance.

Having the prices in mind, I shopped. I saw two employees, both within the dvd/camera area. No one remotely near computers. So, I ended up walking across the entire store to find someone to help me locate a cable (which they didn't have).

Then the checkout line from hell. Two stations open. I spent 45 minutes in line and I was 8 people back in line. It took forever because the wonderful management didn't bother adjusting scans to percentage off. So, the cashier scans every item, then types each item into a calculator, gets the reduced cost, then edits line by line.

10% off is hardly worth it considering a liquidation sale is typically 50%-70% off. And, the percentage does NOT apply to anything already marked on sale. </venting>

I got lucky and got a 1tb ext. drive on sale for $139 and got 10% off. So, I got it for $126.

you just described how it was ever time I go there

first I spend 5 minutes looking for someone to help me

then I spend another 5 minutes trying to find another employe since the last one didnt know what the hell im talking about

then I go to the reigester and spend 2-3 minutes waiting because no one is even there or there standing around talking like idoits

at least thats what the one I go to is like there so fricking usless they have like 30 people working and no one ever helps you

hell even at frys who was the same if not less people working (well probally more but its a MUCH bigger store so there spred out more) they come up and ask you if you need help most of the time its so much nicer there then circuit city

this is what im sad about

Just FYI: Managers can't do a damn thing. Prices are downloaded from corporate every week (or if they change any other time), so it looks like corporate is screwing the employees over by not giving them updated liquidation pricing. I guess they don't really have to care though.

YES! Those prices are not going through until Tuesday of next week! I've been spending the past 6 hours checking out customers with a calculator, pen, and paper beside me doing manual overrides!

But the liquidation is going on as follows:

Electronic Acessories = 30% off

CD's and DVD's = 20% off

Everything else = 10% off (basically tax depending on where you live)

So why do you take it Personal?
I'm losing my job here!

You would think common sense would prevail here.

Look, I am sorry that you are going to lose your job, but I do have Common sense OK!

I am sympathetic with anyone lose their jobs, BUT at the same time I am a Strong believer of "Be good at what you do, otherwise don't take other people's jobs" principle. If you aren't good at what you do, you don't deserve the job. A lot of people more knowledgable could do it instead. (This is General statement, in no way Personal against YOU!)

This topic is for us to give our take what went wrong with Circuit City that led to this. Where I am coming from, one of the obvious problem is CC employees incompetent, like others ALSO have mentioned, so it's really not just me with that issue.

I am going to give YOU the benefit of doubt that you are smarter, than rest of your most other CC co-workers that we've dealt with before.

I am NOT personally calling YOU stupid, so really there is NO need to take it personal! Unless some of things I've said of those incompetent employees are also true with you too.

And, you DON'T need to defend them, if you are not like them, cuz really THEY are the ones that cost you your job! Had most of CC employees know what they are doing, I just don't see Circuit City out of business right now.

Look, pal.

I do have hard time understanding why people here treat me with such disrespect and BS attitude on these forums, myself.

It's getting ridiculous and makes No sense.

You yourself and Lqv2015 also agree many of CC employees are not very good, from what I just read, so what's the problem here?

What are we not agreeing about?

You are on a mission to directly blame the close-to-minimum-wage-working employee, for something that's not their fault. When an entire company fails in the manner CC has, blame falls squarely on the shoulders of management that hasn't trained, motivated and disciplined their salesmen properly.

If individual employees are a problem, then again, blame falls for not having better hiring practices.

There is very little that rank-and-file salesmen can really do to sink a company.

You're not seeing the big picture, Jedi, you're blaming the face you interacted with; you're shooting the messenger, so to speak.

You would think common sense would prevail here.
This is Jedi. Welcome to his world.

*sigh* Ok yeah, I guess you could say the MAIN blame is on the hiring practices...

That's fair, I agree!

would games be everything else?

Yes, it would. But it doesn't really matter. Some of us will just categorize it as "CD's and DVD's". Just gotta find the lucky employee.

Manager said we should come in as early as possible and work as many hours as we can. My paycheck is going to be SICK. At least I'll be able to pay off my credit cards before I go jobless. That I'm actually happy about that.

sorry about losing your job and to everyone else who is losing theres good luck getting a new job ( thoguh try getting a job when your 16 thats always fun)

I just went to CC and the 10 percent off is not a deal. I wanted tpo buy an open box 17" monitor and he wouldn't even lower the sticker price at all. I said forget it and left. Good riddence to them I say !

So you feel you are entitled]/b] to a lower price?

Why do retail employees hate customers? It's because they believe they are entitled to something.

actually yes i do since it was a shelf display item and had no box, it was used for god knows how long. i wasn't the only one complaining there. basically they aren't doing a damn thing to liquidate anything. i hardly saw anybody buying anything.

10% off = fail

10% off = fail

Almost NO liquidations have great deals on it's first day, or even week.

They are trying to Maximize profit still, and therefore fooling dumb people with it.

It isn't just Circuit City.

Watched the video I posted? If didn't Here it is again.

The best/smartest way to deal with this really is take it slow/compare around before you buy it.

Don't have the "If I don't buy it, it will be gone" mentality.

Let IT GO, if it's not a great price. No sense in waste money!!!

Set a Maximize price you will pay for it. (Do that Before you even see what the price at CC is)

I myself will go by Black Friday + 25% standard, and that's Final.

NO matter what I will break that! :)

From another forum

I stopped by the Gaithersburg, MD store, signs said 10% off, people were buying like no tomorrow, but not worth it. No deals

I will sit comfortably in my warmly home, and Laugh at ALL those people that think 10% off is a Great deal! :p

most of you people fail to see the tragedy of this. Circuit City may well have been second fiddle to Best Buy most of their history, but it's sad to see them go. i shed a tear for them, the city was part of the landscape and i bought all the electric stuff for my first apartment there. oh the memories.

I don't like this! :(

Circuit City has really a lot of great deals, IMO!

Stupid Employees, but I can't complain about their deals over the years!

:(

Yes, that is in Fact the first thing I've said!

People fail to realize, just because it's liquidation doesn't mean prices are that good.

It will take very long time, maybe up to 1-2 months before prices are really good enough!

You can believe the item to not be enough of a deal to purchase, but you're not entitled to a better price simply because you feel that you are right. The customer is rarely right. No one gives a damn if you walk in and say 'I demand a better price!'

Yeah. Don't be like these (dumb) douchebags.

    • So, recently, I saw on the news (yes, on this website) that Samsung is introducing features where it can provide education using AI-powered sets, and because of this, I got concerned about whether the AI gives out wrong info during education sessions, causing controversies in the process. What are your thoughts on this?
    • TCL's Bang & Olufsen soundbar is 40% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The TCL Design Series A65K is currently $299.99, down from $499.99. That's 40% off and $200 saved on a soundbar tuned by Bang & Olufsen, which is not a combination you'd normally expect at this price point (purchase link below). Bang & Olufsen doesn't typically show up in the sub-$500 category. The Danish audio brand is known for speakers that cost several times more, so having their acoustic tuning on a $300 soundbar is very appealing. TCL handles the hardware, B&O handles the sound engineering, and the result is what the company calls "accessible luxury." Still, accessible luxury isn’t full-fledged luxury, so don’t expect wonders. But this is a decent soundbar, nevertheless. The A65K is a true 3.1.2 channel system with nine physical drivers, including genuine up-firing height speakers for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Many soundbars at this price simulate overhead effects through virtual processing, rather than actual hardware. So, you’re getting the real deal. The design is unusually slim for a system with Atmos compatibility. The bar is just under 2 inches deep and should fit beneath most TV screens. The wireless subwoofer is also compact at roughly 14 x 14 x 5 inches. Total output is 460W, and you can connect to the soundbar via HDMI eARC, Bluetooth 5.3, or USB. There are also eight sound modes through the TCL Home app and an AI calibration capability. Although it’s worth mentioning that AI capabilities in most of these devices are inconsistent, to say the least, and that shouldn’t be the biggest selling point. Still, at $299.99, the A65K is a strong buy for anyone who wants a soundbar that sounds and looks noticeably better than what this price range usually offers. And the Bang & Olufsen branding surely sounds nice - pun intended.
