dbbondy
About the F8 part... I run a multiboot config between Vista Home Premium and Win 7 X64 so where would i press the F8 key in order for the driver enforcement policy to be disabled? I dont run UAC anyway as I find it annoying. MagicAndre1981
[OT] UAC is not annoying, it's a helper ;) [/OT] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/724220-getting-peer-guardian-2-working-with-windows-7-beta/page/2/#findComment-591351128 Share on other sites
Comic Book Guy
[OT]UAC is not annoying, it's a helper ;) [/OT] A really annoying helper! I don't run it either, and when I upgrade to Win7 that's one of the first things going! MagicAndre1981
[OT] we should discuss this inside the UAC thread ;) Do the same thing under Xp with a limited account and watch the annoying error messages telling you that the access was denied ;) [OT] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/724220-getting-peer-guardian-2-working-with-windows-7-beta/page/2/#findComment-591351156 Share on other sites

I haven't tried on 64 bit so cant tell you I am going to wait until they get their driver signed, I don't feel like having to reboot & press F8 everytime I want to run it. MagicAndre1981
there is a tool which presses F8 on every boot, so there is no need to press F8 yourself. Comic Book Guy
I am not putting Vista into that mode, and I know about DSEO. Like I said, I'll wait, they've currently got just over $260 and need a total of $430 to get the driver signed. I don't know why the original PG people keep saying it's to expensive to get the driver signed. GarglingGlass
I actually posted this in your other thread yesterday kylejn. I got it running on my install, see below.I assume you get an error about pgfilter.sys when attempting to run PG2, see attachment. The problem is the Driver Signature Enforcement Policy. You have two options to resolve this: 1. Press f8 (note you will have to do this every time you want PG 2 to run) before windows 7 boot and choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. or 2. Disable UAC | reboot | download DSEO 1.2 (should be the first link on Google) | patch C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pgfilter.sys with the tool and set the system to test mode, with the tool | then reboot. The above worked for me on my x64 install of Windows 7. FYI I used the most recent RC test client, hope this helps. Thank you. This works perfectly. But it doesn't satisfy my OSD. I cannot compute while DSEO says test mode constantly on my desktop  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/724220-getting-peer-guardian-2-working-with-windows-7-beta/page/2/#findComment-591358036 Share on other sites
Comic Book Guy
There's supposed to be a way to remove that from the desktop. blairg23
The easiest way to get peerguardian2 working in vista or windows 7 beta environments is to right click properties -> set compatibility to windows xp service pack 2 or 3 -> run as administrator. Keep in mind, this is the easiest way to make any program work in windows 7 if it doesn't already. Sometimes, even simply running as administrator works as well. Side note: when peerguardian 2 stopped working for me the first time, I had to use the pgfix.exe that comes with the program, and then rerun peer guardian after setting up compatibility mode. cropcircles
Sometimes PG will run sometimes not even after right clicking and running as admin. I should say it will be running but the tray icon not showing up. You can check your task manager processess and its usually running after you start it up. I have had much more luck with Peerblock as it seems to run in conjuntion with PG. I have had a couple BSOD's with Peerblock ! Driver signature issue. I'll check for updates. heftestift
Hi all, I don't know if this will help anyone but here's me sharing some experience. I could not get peerguardian working on Windows 7 beta (x32), or, rather, sometimes it would and others not. What now works for me is Do NOT use loader. Delete lists in peerguardian lists-folder Compatibility mode: windows Vista Run as Administrator It seems to help to deactivate before closing the program, too. deletedxyz
Why even bother with PG2? It's a complete waste of time and it crashes more often that it works. Why can't anyone just use alternatives that don't require you to install drivers such as Blocklist manager? (Spork)
I gave up on PG2. It was rendered useless when I stumbled upon a neat piece of software called "Blocklist Manager". It manages all the BlueTack filters.Since I used PG2 only when I was using utorrent, I was able to simply export all the blacklisted IP's into utorrent. Here's a guide: http://www.techerator.com/2009/06/how-to-b...ocking-feature/ yea same thing i do simple and easy Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/724220-getting-peer-guardian-2-working-with-windows-7-beta/page/2/#findComment-591510842 Share on other sites
Lindkvist
1. Press f8 (note you will have to do this every time you want PG 2 to run) before windows 7 boot and choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. ReadyDriver Plus does this for you. It will however require you to map a drive letter to the W7 'Boot' partition (if you have it), or install W7 without it. I mainly use it for 'ATI Tray Tools'. onionrage
OK folks, I've installed Peer guardian in conjunction with DSEO as described below and all is working fine in that respect. My only concern is that now I have the message in the bottom right of the desktop saying that Test Mode Win7 Build 7600. I tried using dseo to come out of test mode which was sucessfull on reboot in removing the test mode message - but Peerguardian will now not work again. Is this right?? Do i need to be running in test mode all the time to have peerguardian running and is this a concern or not? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/724220-getting-peer-guardian-2-working-with-windows-7-beta/page/2/#findComment-591802616 Share on other sites
x9248
Forget Peerguardian and get Peerblock... they are the exact same program Not only is it being actively developed it comes in all flavors of Windows. va_trial
On topic: If using Test Signing mode you might want to patch the strings in user32.dll.mui to stop it from saying "Test Mode" at the edges of your screen. Unless that program already does that of course. :) I don't understand. How do you "patch the strings in user32.dll.mui"?? Thanks! CentralDogma
I don't understand. How do you "patch the strings in user32.dll.mui"?? Thanks! This topic is out of date. Peer Guardian is no longer being developed. Peer Block is a good alternative though, use that.
