Definitive date for google chrome extensions

... no really.
*Facepalm*

The clue is in the name! Minefield is the nightly beta which is compiled and released regardless of what state the codebase is in.

guess what guys

i am on the google chrome DEV channel which is pre alpha and it hasnt crashed once, while blazing ahead of firefox

speed

but honestly do not even try to contest chromes dominence as a speedy browser go look at some benchmarks

If your referring to the javascript benchmarks, Mozilla are greatly improving Firefox's JavaScript speed in Firefox 3.1 (Tracemonkey), which will bring it more in line with what chrome currently scores.

speed

i dont want to get into any flame wars

firefox is very slow in comparsion to opera and safari and chrome

Links? Proof? Anything?

I'd really like to see, I'm not trying to start a flame war or what not, I'm just wondering what makes Firefox so slow these days.

Speaking of Tracemonkey, which build of Firefox did you use? Did you even turn on Tracemonkey? I don't understand how you can say it's "very slow compared to Chrome" when the benchmarks show it to be on par with Chrome (Firefox 3.1 with tracemonkey turned on).

im just posting news, with a little bias maybe but having used both google chrome is far supirior

in a few months google chrome allready got 1 % market share and opera has been here 10 years and not even at 1

firefox took a LONG time to get to where it is

google chrome gets advertised on youtube in a few more years you will wonder why you ever used firefox

Oh and Opera totally has the marketing might of Google

im not tlaking about javascript im talking about general page loading times

you guys need to actually use the browser before you dismiss it

saying that minefield or firefox is faster is ignorant

you want links? do a simple web search "google chrome speed"

Uh, page loading times would mostly be dependent on your internet connection, surely.

And stop trying to dismiss everyone who contests your opinion!

We are just saying Fx 3.1 holds it's own against Chrome. Not faster.

I have 16 mb from Comcast, and Chrome is quite a bit faster with page load times than both FF and IE. Opera is the only browser I use that comes close to Chrome with render times.

That being said, anyone find it funny that to enable tracemonkey on the Minefield nightlies you gotta use javascript.options.jit.chrome :D

No. Pretty sure Firefox used the name first, and it's not related.

Do you use addons in Firefox, out of interest? That could affect it.

i?ve used chrome for a while (i was impressed by the speed and simplicity) but went back to FF...just add ad-block, foxmarks look-a-like, and drag and drop extensions and i?ll consider chrome again.

showing how hard it is to get anywhere in the market

firefox was extremly slow to start off

i remember hating changing to firefox 0.7 from internet explorer

it was horrid for me in the beginning

Then why on earth would you change if you hated it? Even if you disliked IE there were still other alternatives.

Chrome has been the name for the UI around the page rendering for some time. Google Chrome is named after this convention, not the other way around.

    • Very fitting name since AI users have air where there brains should be.
    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
    • Didn’t Dbrand once complain that Casetify was ripping off their designs a well? seems pretty bad of them to try and get around Valve’s copyright this way with that in mind.
    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
