[Official] Killzone 2

I guess the majority of people complaining about the controllers (the buttons you press, not the game mechanics such as x/y-axis speeds) are people who play the majority of games on an xbox? Would that be a correct assessment? I haven't come across people who play(ed) games on playstation platforms exclusively (so no xbox 1 or 360) and were complaining about the controlls... (note; I do agree they should've just given us the option to map each button the way you want!)

And I honestly do believe that Killzone 2 looks better than anything on consoles right now. The game might not have the prettiest/most hi-res textures or anything, but the attention to detail such as sparks actually bouncing, the motion blur/depth of field is just spot on if you ask me, haven't seen anything that good yet.

Storywise I wasn't expecting too much of KZ2 since it's an FPS - and while I really do enjoy the setting and story it's not something new, it's still quite nice tho if you ask me...

So I took DL's advice and made the X axis sensitive and the Y axis stiff for headshots. It seems to be working out for me pretty well.

I started the game out using Alternate 2 with the Zoom Lock off, but I'm starting to realize that Standard 1 makes the most sense with the cover system. The problem is that when I'm running and gunning and the enemies are somewhat far away, I instinctively press L1 to zoom, so Standard 1 works against me during those situations.

I just hope I don't end up switching back and forth between Standard 1 and Alternate 2 for the rest of the campaign

I just wanted to correct you on that. :) I think killzone 2 is like paris hilton.
I expressed my opinion ;) and I still stand by it, you should've just stated that you believe it is the bestlooking game on the PS3, not changed my quote, because I didn't say that nor do I mean that :p

no harsh feelings though, just wanted to correct you on that. :)

I agree Keito.

The game is for me really good, not perfect in anyway, but no game is.

It looks really good, some scenes looks pretty stunning, and some not so much, but the whole thing looks damn good, and that includes multi-player which carries over a lot of the great visuals from single player.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with the controls?

I had no problem holding down L2 while holding R1, pressing forward on one analogue and aiming with the other, though I can see how some would, they should have had the crouch/cover the same as sights so we can choose weather to hold or not.

And I also didn't see what most of the problem with the layout is either, the only people who I would assume are going to complain are those who play play Call of Duty games on the Xbox, because the control scheme difference between CoD4 on the Ps3 and K2 on Alt2 are barely anything, the crouch button is R2 and umm, that's pretty much it unless I'm forgetting something?

You just have to learn to use your middle finger as well. :p

A few of years ago a lot, if not most, games would have completely different controls, I wonder if anyone ever played different games back then, you would have to learn each games controls from the beginning.

Though I agree they still should have let us customize them.

hey guys any idea on why they took out the cover system for MP? cause it's just getting retarded... people die soooo quickly that's not even funny.

MP is always a field of 360 degrees, SP most of the time you're just going forwards in a FOV of like 90 or something?

If you were locking to cover in MP it would be a pain in the ass to unlock, then try and turn around change direction.

The cover system was in the MP beta at one point, but it was removed due to feedback from the testers that it just didn't work. And people dying quickly are probably those trying to charge around - I get most of my kills from finding good vantage points and picking people off. It doesn't take a lot to drop bodies so stay in groups of at least 2 and take it slowly scanning the horizon for red/blue glows every so often - At least on the bigger maps anyway.

Thanks,:) sorry about changing whay you said.

I managed to get some time to play online last night and this morning and so far it seems pretty fun. Aiming can be a bit annoying at times, sometimes it's just a little too fast or slow.

Ranking up could get a little frustrating. I want the Scout badge (looks pretty awesome!) but it looks like I have a long way to go yet. Still being a Medic is okay for now I guess. :p On the topic of ranking up, can you use all the different badges in Skirmish mode by default? I don't think I saw it, but I only had a brief go. If you can't play about with all badges offline without first unlocking them online that seems pretty lame to me.

then merely this is just another Counter Strike with no cover... lol. But no doubt I still have fun.

Use crouch and hide behind things, there's your cover?

The only difference in SP is you lock onto things and can peak around corners at an angle.

Already hit the point where I don't even want to play another round, the game lacks soul, passion and unique features. Playing this game online feels like sticking your tongue out the window, hoping for a flavour adventure and then the disappoint just hits you hard. Most "AAA" titles gives you this urge to boot up the game, kill a few guys and the log back out. This game has none of that.

How do you even mute people?! The immature kids, noise and retardation is even worse than on Xbox Live, coupled with the noisy and loud ( mostly ) BT headsets.

Also, why are Body Count rounds so short?! I spent more time loading, waiting and loading again than playing. A round lasted like 1 minute?!

Round lengths are dictated by the server creator I believe.

You can mute people and report abuse by pressing select then going to the list of people then pressing square on their name.

Give the game a better chance, play with some of us online. We've not even arranged any clan games or anything yet, most people are still taking time to get used to online and at least unlock a couple of classes.

The maps are my favourite part of online, they just look awesome.

You have got to be kidding me? I hate when games do that, standard rules on XP-enabled servers, thank you.

Is there a global mute setting on the PS3? Can't be arsed spending my entire night muting the server.

I have no idea, I'm just guessing.

Just play a deathmatch only server instead of a Warzone server if you want to play deathmatch for a long period of time. The whole point in Warzone is it chops and changes the flow of gameplay regularly - Usually along the lines of 3-5 minute spells.

If your server is that bad from people, join another.

And in regards to a global mute, if you go into KZ2 options, then sound, I believe you can turn the voice chat slider right down.

I wish you could just turn chat off or have it set specifically to squad chat only. The amount of feedback and general noise from all the Bluetooth headsets is unreal. It's deafening at times.

It's ridiculous between joining maps, they gotta patch that to only allow your team/your squad to talk. When you're in 32 player rooms and everyone tries to talk at once that doesn't work.

However during gameplay if you're in a squad unless you're next to someone you shouldn't really hear anyone else apart from your squad.

That's what I did! Every time we won, it went back to lobby, we waited, loaded for ages, we waited for everyone to ready up and then played for like a minute or two - Repeat!

Also the problem I had, in a 20+ player game in the lobby, THE NOISE, ARG!

There must be server side options then?

I've played deathmatch games that have lasted a while - Ask Munky, he created an Insomniacs deathmatch only room and I'm sure the games went on for what, 10-15 mins? Certainly was not 2 minutes when we played :p

Anyway I gotta shoot, be on tomorrow! Can we please do some clan practice only soon? A locked room for the bulk of the clan, so we can all get to know how each of us plays? :) There's quite a few of us who've never played with each other before for long spells of time. Plus we gotta get some sort of formation on the go for clan games, who's playing support, who's on offence, who's on defence?

It would be nice to do a decently serious clan seeing as the groundwork for arranging games and tournaments is all there for us, no manual labour needed.

Plus I think it's the first time the 360 and PS3 forums have merged for a while, would be nice for us to do something not involving fighting each other :p

I don't know if this was posted yet, but here are Guerrilla Game's Must-Do list for KZ2

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/02/27/...for-killzone-2/

The PlayStation 3 shooter we?ve been talking about for years is finally becoming a reality, as ?Killzone 2″ arrives on shelves today. We asked developer Guerrilla Games producer Sebastian Downie to compile a list of things ?Killzone 2″ gamers ?must do? while playing their game ? here?s what he said.

Guerrilla Games Developers? Must-Do List For Players of

?Killzone 2?

(PlayStation Fantasy Garden Simulator, February 2009)

1. On the mine-train in Tharsis Refinery, find the hidden Boltgun and nail Helghast soldiers to the tunnel walls. Its rewarding in more ways than one.

2. After playing online, go to www.killzone.com to view the Battle Replay of your game to see how you can improve your performance. Or you can use it to spy on the tactics deployed by a rival clan.

3. Rank up to Sergeant and create a Clan in-game or on www.killzone.com to take part in massive tournaments of up to 256 clans, or challenge rival clans for ?valor?, the online currency of the game.

4. Keep an eye out for the [GG] Clan when you are online and see if you can take out a developer or two.

5. In the slums of Salamun District wait till the Helghast rappel from the dropship before exploding the yellow barrels. It will take them out in one fiery blast and often enough their burning corpses will swing from the rafters above. Killzone 2 is all about the burning corpses.

6. Upload your single player stats to www.killzone.com to compare them with your friends for bragging rights as well as catch up on the latest news, content and gossip on the forums.

7. In Killzone 2 multiplayer for search-and-destroy and capture-and-hold missions: select the tactician badge with the speed boost secondary ability to take one for the team. Rush the objective and pop a spawn point making it much easier for your team to gain the upper hand.

8. When playing online search-and-retrieve missions: Let your enemies do your work for you! As the saboteur, Ambush the delivery location with C4, don a disguise, and wait for your enemy propaganda carrier to come by. Once he blows up, you only need to carry the propaganda speaker a few short steps to victory!

9. In multiplayer: Look at what weapons your fallen adversaries are carrying! By picking up their weapons you can end up with some deadly combinations of abilities and weapons, such as the heavy armor of an assault trooper with the LMG of a rifleman; or a cloaked scout wielding a shotgun (Devastating at close quarters!)

10. When playing multiplayer, press the PS button and bring up the XMB. You can then listen to custom music from your PS3 to go with your killing sprees. Nothing says ?Kill the ISA scum? like the super swinging sounds of Burt Bacharach.

11. In Maelstra barrens, rather than wasting valuable ammunition on the traitorous Helghast, step on them with your Exo-skeleton instead. Much more satisfying and you might even get a trophy for it.

12. In multiplayer try to place your gun turrets and sentry bots near spawn markers to offer defense for spawning re-enforcements. Also try to place sentry bots or turrets near your own ammo crates. In short, think carefully about where you place support items and try to place them next to other support items.

13. Use the shotgun close range on enemy heads to blow them apart like ripe fruit. Also makes a very satisfying squishy noise.

14. To see what the AI is capable of, why not add some bots to your multiplayer games. They will perform most of the abilities human players can and not complain if you team-kill or tea-bag them.

    • Turbo Pascal was my first real programming experience more than 30 years ago at university. I mostly taught myself from the included examples and help documentation, because the university only taught the basic syntax and philosophy of Pascal, without going deeply into Turbo Pascal’s advanced features. I still remember when I discovered that I could embed assembly language directly into Pascal code, call BIOS functions, manipulate screen memory, use mouse interrupts, and control peripherals from my programs. That opened huge doors for me. Programming back then felt really fun, direct, and close to the machine. What I loved about Pascal was its readability and the almost instant compile time. Turbo Pascal was an amazing environment, but unfortunately Turbo Pascal for Windows 3 did not feel like it fully carried that legacy forward. Later, Delphi got things back on the right track after the messy transition to TP for Windows. Sadly, Delphi suffered from years of uncertainty as it moved from Borland to CodeGear and then to Embarcadero. That instability made many developers lose confidence in it, even though Delphi itself remained a powerful and productive tool. I still work with Delphi from time to time, but I definitely miss the old days of Turbo Pascal.
    • I hope this encodes in to AV1 or AV2 as currently tiktok uses h265 and h264.
    • Qualcomm reportedly in talks to build custom video chips for TikTok parent ByteDance by Karthik Mudaliar Qualcomm is reportedly in advanced discussions to provide custom chip-design services to Chinese tech giant ByteDance, the same company behind TikTok. According to a report from Reuters, Qualcomm could be involved in designing custom silicon tailored for ByteDance's massive data-center workloads. If it goes through, the deal would make ByteDance one of Qualcomm's early anchor customers for its fastly growing custom chip-design division, For years, Qualcomm was the king of making smartphone processors and modems. The company has also been moving into the PC ecosystem and other formats such as on-device AI for Android XR headsets. However, this particular deal is about Qualcomm's custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). For a platform like TikTok, ByteDance needs hardware that can help it ingest, process, and serve billions of short-form videos daily. Generalised hardware is no longer the most cost-effective and efficient route, which is why ByteDance is trying to develop custom Video Processing Units (VPUs). VPUs designed specifically for ByteDance’s algorithmic needs could drastically reduce data-center power consumption and improve encoding speeds at an unprecedented scale. The underlying tech behind these processors is actually from Qualcomm's recent acquisition of AlphaWave Semi, a high-speed connectivity specialist company. By combining AlphaWave’s high-bandwidth IP with Qualcomm’s architectural expertise, the company could begin mass production by the end of 2026, if the talks go through. All this also comes at a time when U.S.-China tech relations have dwindled. Escalating trade frictions between Washington and Beijing have severely impacted the export of high-end AI chips from U.S. firms like Nvidia, AMD, and Lam Research. Yet, the Qualcomm-ByteDance discussions show that U.S. tech companies are still actively seeking growth avenues and are open to doing business with China, where regulators still permit. Reuters notes that the outcome of this deal could be uncertain, and ByteDance might also seek partners other than Qualcomm. via Reuters | Image via DepositPhotos.com
