Update on some incoming fixes

Hi folks,

Boost

we've identified and fixed the bug to do with the boost medal not being awarded. It will go into a patch we are working on at present, but there is a workaround in the mean time to get it. Simply ensure that you are the Game Creator rather than client and you'll be awarded it.

Network Errors/Honor Ranks

We are also looking at fixing a good bunch of the network errors and are looking into the complaints about the Honor Ranks as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. We'll provide a list of fixes when we are close to releasing the patch.

Bots

We're working on a permanent solution for the bots stat padding and have some internal solutions that we're going to work on implementing. We'll let you know what those are when we've got the patch together and the solution implemented.

We will NOT be wiping ALL stats and padders will be looked at individually by the moderators.

www.kz.com

www.killzone.com is being sorted out today to deal with the massive traffic its been facing and hope to have some long-term solutions in place shortly.

The stats are currently empty on the site and will be repopulated today.

Controller Issues

We have not stopped looking into the complaints and will see what we can do about it. Any possible changes will have to be carefully implemented and tested before being deployed though.

Charge disarming

We have identified the issue where sometimes the C4 charge in Search and Destroy will not disarm. Will be fixed with the next update.

Shotgun Aim Assist

Investigating the problem and will patch it up.

Clan Games

Sometimes the clan that does not turn up for a match is awarded the win under specific circumstances. Will be patched ASAP.

Battle Replay for Map 8 - Corinth Crossing

The BR on www.killzone.com is not quite right and will be fixed soon.

Ignore list

Was found not to be functioning correctly. Will be fixed in the next patch.

Crashes

Crash when using Saboteur disguise in certain situations. Will be fixed in the next patch.

Infrequent crash when trying to start a game with an empty game name. Will be fixed soon.

Medic/Assassination

There is an issue with the Assassination target HUD icon displaying when playing as a Medic. Investigating and will be fixed.

Thanks and apologies if I am not responding to all questions, PMs and threads. There are simply not enough hours in the day to help all of you out and I have to work on the issues themselves. So please stay calm and sensible and everything will get fixed up soon. As you can see we've fixed up a bunch of the problems you have encountered as well as a couple more you might not be aware of. The important thing is to be patient. Any patches have to be carefully implement to ensure that no additional issues are introduced.

Some of you will be happy with shotgun aim assist apparently being nuked.

Look at this very early trailer and then compare it to the final version.

^^^^ Nice one

I'm amazed at the improvements made and how they developed.

Well, I've played online for the first time and there's only one thing that annoys me so far - narrow passageways and players who have no balls and block those narrow passages

Died 3 times simply because I couldn't get passed someone!

32 players on some of the maps can be too frantic, cutting it down to <=24 is better, sometimes even lower.

Yes the bottle necks on some of the maps, have started to get to me. The huge maps work great with 32 people. my favourite one so far is the one in the sand.

Love the game, now if only I could make it control like COD4 it would be perfect. Does this game look better then Crysis?

In one word, NO.

Crysis still looks absolutely amazing in all regards when settings are high.

Now with that said, I do think stylistically it looks amazing, that the attention to detail is also amazing, and if you prefer the look, one can say it looks better than Crysis from a stylistic stand point, but if you are speaking for a pure technological standpoint, no, it does not.

Game is not meant to be COD, it will never control like it. Best you can hope for are a few tweaks, but aside from that it just will not be COD.

And no, of course it doesn't look better than Crysis running on a powerful PC at high resolutions and maxed out details. It may challenge it's whole package decently with atmosphere, art direction, audio and what not, but a console is not going to exceed the best texture work the PC can do, ever.

Does that mean console games never look good, of course not, not everyone gets to play PC games looking amazing at solid frame rates, that's the trade off. Everyone on the other hand will play Killzone 2 the way it's been made, no scaling of graphics/textures/resolution - Unless you have an SDTV. Also, I guess with the audio, if you don't have a sound system you won't experience 5.1/7.1 either.

Alt 2 have pretty much the same control as COD4. Almost every Shooter on PS3 use the settings on Alt 2. COD games, Resistance games, MGS4, Uncharted, Warhawk all zoom and fire with L1 and R1. I think most people are having problems with aim sensitivity. I was having problems at first with it but after a while I get used to it. I don't have problems aiming down the sight right now.

Shoot from the hip close range/shoot from the sights far range.

UK CHARTS: Killzone 2 triumphant

Sony?s PS3 exclusive shooter edges Microsoft?s Halo Wars to grab the top spot in the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40

After over three years of hype and unimagined pressure to perform, Sony?s PS3 exclusive first person shooter Killzone 2 has kept its nerve and debuted at the top of the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40.

The victory is all the sweeter having had to fend off the advances of Microsoft?s latest instalment to its Halo franchise, Halo Wars, which begins its charts career in second spot.

Last week?s number one, Capcom?s Street Fighter IV, is forced in to third place, though it holds off Nintendo?s Wii Fit for another week as that drops to fourth spot.

Elsewhere in the listings, Professor Layton has a strong week, climbing from 11th to fifth. Konami?s Silent Hill: Homecoming debuts just outside the Top Ten at number 11, whilst THQ?s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II slip dramatically from third to 18th.

Capcom?s Wii only Dead Rising: Chop ?Til You Drop failed to make the Top 40 this week, making it to just number 13 in the Wii listings.

The ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 in full (for the week ending Feb 28th):

1. Killzone 2 (Sony)

2. Halo Wars (Microsoft)

3. Street Fighter IV (Capcom)

4. Wii Fit (Nintendo)

5. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo)

6. Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection (Sega)

7. FIFA 09 (EA)

8. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision Blizzard)

9. Ben 10: Alien Force (D3P)

10. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)

Update on "control changes" that was mentioned on the last page. I believe the official forums erupted again after the announcement.

Okay, before I start crying.

1. We have not decided if we are going to do anything to the controls. We are investigating.

2. If we change them, we have not said how. No reason to get upset. We are not going to turn them on their head. It would not be sweeping changes.

3. Any potential changes made will be carefully analyzed and tested to ensure they do not negatively affect players who do not experience any issues.

Now can you all take a break and stop making threads about this. They will not affect change either way.

Seb Downie - Producer - Guerrilla Games

Just stick in some custom mapping, all that's needed. I want to play KZ2 with my Guitar Hero WT Drumset.

I know it is not meant to play like COD4, I stated on my podcast that it really annoys me when people go on about how the game does not play like COD4.

About the graphics, I should maybe say that yes Crysis on high or even very high does look amazing. However look at the cost of the system to produce those graphics.

Anyway not hating on the game, I love it why they did not release this first is beyond me. This would have gave GOW2 a run for it's money.

Was the plan to wait a few weeks but I wanted to get going while it was still new, in case it was the next big thing. The game is just a bog standard FPS that brings NOTHING to the table. Perhaps if the cover system was still in Multiplayer it might have been a bit interesting but, no. The single-player campaign is so "bleh", almost every level look a like and the story is a joke - You could play the campaign levels in any order and you wouldn't notice.

Not to mention the TF2 like MP system, oh how I hate that - I know some people love it but turrets, medics, flying thingies, stealth and what the hell they shovelled into the game - Get it the **** out of mah' FPS.

I'm actually glad you've came forward and said it, seems like everyone's fapping over it without saying the negative points.

Still sounds great though, but always great to hear people opinions.

You either like or dislike a class based system, it's not a negative point per se, it's just a preference in regards to online play. It's been known for a long time KZ2 was going to be class based.

And there's been plenty of grumbles about control weight & acceleration/custom control mapping/website performance/stat padding/shotgun auto-aim/ear bleeding voice chat issues in the game lobby/network disconnections & errors, etc.

Far from everyone fapping :p There's a fair share of things for Guerilla to look at, made obvious by my post on the last page about all the upcoming changes and fixes.

In regards to MP anyway, I've not completed the SP campaign yet, so I can't really comment much on it for now. Reviews have made me aware it's not ground breakingly different from anything else, just really polished. I'll complete it over the next few days, finishing an assignment I have due for tomorrow just now :(

Just polishing it up I think, would probably of been "rushed" for a November release, then even if it were pretty much ready in Jan/early Feb, Sony probably wanted to give R2 somewhat of a breathing space.

There was shots released of changes between a December build and a January build and they were fairly noticeably different on the lighting front.

I just want to toggle aim on L2, a placement used by most FPS games these days. Beyond me why the hell none of the templates doesn't include that button to zoom.

Oh and

As for the controller 'problems', those are huge issues, not just tiny non-issues - Especially for gamers who rely on milimeters and fractions to win and get ahead of the opponent.

In regards to class based MP, its not a standard class system like say TF2, where they all have different sets of weapons, and different health and stats.

Where the class will have maybe differences in speed or health, its more of a perk, so I can play so far as a normal soldier, or a medic which to me play the same apart from I can revive people when being a medic, so its more like a perk/ability. The class only restricts a weapon choice in some cases to allow for a bigger perk. But its nowhere near a strict class based system as TF2 would be.

the controls are fine for me, its just the fact that aiming is not smooth, seems rather jerky to me.(of course it might just be me). i find it very hard to zero in on an enemy.

Yeah, I find that you have a circular dead zone of around 30 degrees of tilt on the sticks before anything happens. Then when you move beyond that it moves too fast.

It seems easier to get around this by moving your character rather than the gun.

They are not huge issues for everyone though.

The game plays and controls differently to other games, if you can't or don't want to accept that KZ2 is not the online FPS game for you. No harm done, just go back to playing something else you like.

I'm not saying things won't be tweaked, but Guerilla said it themselves:

Nothing massive is going to change it seems.
