Good to hear changes but sad to know most of them are just cosmetic (new icons, wallpapers). May be this is Vista done right and everyone needs to wait for next version of windows to see something revolutionary other than all the evolutionary changes happening in Windows 7.

Its good to know Vista had to exist for such a fine release of Windows 7. Not saying that Vista sucked but Windows 7 is 100% what Vista should have been.

Finally, i wanted to know if Windows 7 will support USB 3.0 by time of RTM in case USB v3 documentation is completed or will support come to existence in form of service pack.

So for those who have downloaded it, would you say 7048 is overall faster/stabler/better than the beta (7000)? From some of the comments so far it doesn't really sound like it.

I'm using 7000 as my main OS right now and haven't really noticed any bugs at all, except the occasional taskbar flickering. So I'm not sure that I'll upgrade just yet, esp. if it sounds like 7048 is actually using more memory or loading a little slower (seems like a backwards step?? Hmm)

hmm performance wise.. i don't think there's any difference or if there is could be insignificant.. i dunno i dun do benchmark but i guess it's definitely better than build 7000.

if you don't feel like downloading.. wait till RC.. build 7000 works just fine!

The "betta fish" wallpaper is still there.. that's just my personal wallpaper i've changed.. and yeah the key works =D

Seems the betta fish is bye-bye for good, and the key works too!!

Huh? dont understand what you mean lol :p

Just a thought, If I use a running win7 to make a [recovery disk], I get one with only 140M used with no more available space. Can I make a workaround with this one to make a bootable installation DVD?? I am unable to make tests now, any ideas guys??

for me this is first version i can call stable windows7 OS. No more random explorer craches, till now only bug i still noticed was low WEI disk index with write-back cache enabled. Rest is working perfect and it also seems more responsive.

When you select the edition you want to download it will tell you downloads are no longer available, but will still give you a key.

Hmm, I also just discovered with the new "aero peek" during alt+tab it permanently hides my Trillian Astra contact list and the only way I could get it back was by alt+tabbing to the desktop, then clicking the show/hide desktop button in the corner twice. Wonderful. Other than that little annoyance this build seems to rock so far.

When Upgrading 7000 to 7048, has anyone noticed problems with any applications installed which don't work.

Currently downloading 7048 at 95.7% 73Kb/s average

I recently installed MacOSX 10.5.6 on my PC, so I am in the mood for install procedures lol :D

If you are running Windows Live Mail you may want to uninstall it and then reinstall it or you may get a "database was corrupted" error every time you start it. Was forced to uninstall Avira Antivirus prior to installation, but works just fine after reinstalling post-upgrade. First time running Windows Live Messenger it had to "configure," but seems to run fine after. Other than that I haven't had any problems running previously installed apps (so far). Beware, file and settings migration during setup may take a while (took me like an hour, yawn).

Tks ur reply. I made the recovery disk from 7000, it's bootable, and has only a few files total 140M, (it's got \sources\boot.wim). But you can't write to the DVD anymore.

I was thinking if it's possible to do something to change it to a bootable 7048 bootable installation disk.

About installing from a usb mem stick: I have been in bios and changed the first boot option to usb mem stick...I then boot up and the installation prosedyre starts. But what to do when it restarts during installation? I mean, I dont get the question "press any key to boot from whatever media", so when the comp restarts, it just start all over again. And I cant just take it out since it is needed more. What do I do wrong?

Don't set to boot USB in bios just use F8 bios option to load boot list. Not windows F8 before that, when you normally press Del.

On 7048 x64 new share icons never seen before. Padlocks instead peoples? hmmm...

PS: firewall off.

Those mean you need admin rights to copy, move, cut, etc to or from those drivers.

Forget the watermark. RC will be out in a few weeks.

Nvidia has some new drivers out for Windows 7, both x86 and x64. Check their website.

    • Anthropic accuses Alibaba of using 25,000 fake accounts to copy Claude's capabilities by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic has accused Alibaba of using nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts to extract capabilities from Claude on a huge scale. According to a report from Reuters, Anthropic told US lawmakers that operators linked to Alibaba and the company’s Qwen AI team generated 28.8 million exchanges with Claude between April 22 and June 5, 2026. That is a lot of Claude conversations, but Anthropic says this was not ordinary chatbot use. The company believes the accounts were part of a coordinated effort to collect answers that could help train or improve rival AI systems. The alleged campaign reportedly focused on some of Claude’s most valuable skills, including software development, multi-step reasoning, and agentic tasks. In practical terms, that means getting an AI model to plan and complete work across several stages rather than simply answering a single question. This is called 'distillation,' where AI companies use outputs from a larger model to train a smaller and cheaper one. The smaller model learns to imitate useful parts of the more capable system without needing the same amount of computing power. The distillation process isn't automatically suspicious, but the problem comes when one company gathers another provider's outputs without permission and at an industrial scale. Also, this does not mean Alibaba obtained Claude’s source code, model weights, or original training data. Instead, Anthropic claims the accounts repeatedly asked Claude carefully designed questions and collected the answers. Those answers could then be used as training material for another model. Anthropic has made similar accusations against DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax earlier this year. As Neowin previously reported, Anthropic said those three companies collectively generated more than 16 million Claude exchanges through roughly 24,000 accounts. Anthropic says the new campaign produced almost twice as many exchanges in a matter of weeks. Anthropic reportedly told lawmakers that the campaign could help Chinese AI developers approach the capabilities of its Mythos Preview model. Mythos is focused on advanced cybersecurity work, including finding and exploiting complex software vulnerabilities. via Reuters | Photo via DepositPhotos.com

    • I don't think it was ever a big question. In fact, I don't think anyone ever asked about how clocks work on Mars.
    • I don't know what the price difference is between a 5GbE and a 10GbE part, but it seems that putting a 10GbE port in might be a bit more 'standard'.
