iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th

when does the palm Pre launch? is it apr/may? maybe this is to keep some people excited for new 3.0 coming in june that would otherwise think about jumping to the pre? i dunno, just guessing..

Definately. This event is simply saying, what the Pre can, we can (should) do better.

maybe having apps running in the background? would the current iphones be able to handle alot of background apps without slowing down badly?

Could be, I mean Sony has done it before with the PSP. The Slim came with extra memory, resulting in some software only working on the new model. Anyway, I'm excited to see what they come up with. If it's good enough I'll gladly pay to update my iPod. Again.

I was about to order a new iPhone this weekend. Maybe I should hold off if they announce new hardware?

wait this week. see what they announce at the event and judge if they'll need new hardware by the release date or not. if they don't appear to have new hardware, then get your iPhone :D

can't wait to see what's new on the 3.0 firmware!

I think we all knew this was coming. Apple seems to have made it a habit of previewing the iPhone OSX in March and then releasing it around WWDC time along with an actual iPhone hardware upgrade. They are really milking the idea that people are willing to upgrade to a newer iPhone every year and re-sign new contracts.

I'm hoping that they take a real Snow Leopard approach to it, you know, reduce drive and memory consumption. If that were the ONLY feature, I'd pay for it.

After a few days my iPhone slows right down, a quick reboot fixes it, but it's still annoying.

+1 on this. Prolly the newer iPhone will come with dual cameras so that video conferencing is possible over 3G, more memory and a better processor. I just bought the 3G two months back, i don't think i can afford a new iphone especially since it costs 700$ in my country

Does anyone even video conference on their phone anymore? I doubt we'll see a front facing camera.

Fortunately Nokia, Motorolla, SE, HTC ect all only release a single phone every few years...

If anything Apple is rather unique in that they do so few updates. No one is forced to update either.

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
