i'm really disappointed so far.. i was really hoping for a completely updated UI/home screen/lock screen or something

What? That's it the iPhone's 'image'. As if they would go and change it.

Yes and next version I bet Apple will impose some artifical feature in the new touch/phone that the old ones wont support and end making updates for the touch models that dont have it so you will need to buy the latest and greatest (Apple has done this since the 68k macs and no one ever seems to care)

Technology needs to be pushed forward. Always has done.

That seems highly unlikely. One of the biggest appeals of the iPhone, if not the biggest appeal, is that the firmware is upgradeable, unlike nearly every other mobile phone on the market. To exclude 3.0 from the existing iPhone models would be a terrible move.

It's not like how old iPod firmware updates were only the new models, so the old models only missed out on search and other minor things. This is much different. If Apple excludes old models from 3.0, there would then have to be special 3.0-only applications, etc.

99% of the smartphones that are on the market update the firmware this is nothing that and decent phone hasnt done since the late 90's

honestly, none of you are getting bored with the current layout? just pages of apps lined up in a grid? after nearly 2 years i find it quite boring. at least some customization would be cool.. even a home screen with focus on mail, calendar, something... and stacks or categores for apps we download

I'm just thinking. With all these push notifications, isn't the phone constantly going to be going off?

honestly, none of you are getting bored with the current layout? just pages of apps lined up in a grid? after nearly 2 years i find it quite boring. at least some customization would be cool.. even a home screen with focus on mail, calendar, something... and stacks or categores for apps we download

They're keeping it simple. It does its job nice.

actually thats the point. since the app store and being able to load tons of apps on the phone it doesnt do its job nice anymore. at the very least some sort of categorization would be cool

Yeah, but current iPhone hardware is still more than capable. What kind of update could they come up with that current gen models wouldn't be able to run?

the new ones will have a shinyness gage to measure how glossy the other Apple products people own are (current models wont support the new feature so they will need to be disscontinued .... and everyone needs to run out and buy the new one)

your kidding right? palm pre, android to name a few that are nicer.

look at the Pre. i was so hoping apple would do something incredible for the UI to step it up with what the Pre will bring UI wise

dont get me wrong, the iphone is wonderful to use, and does some things incredibly well (like internet browsing for ex), but the UI is just old now.

I agree but to put in artificial limits in to what your products can or cant based on profit run is wrong to the consumer (not saying support their hardware forever but a apple 3 gen limit has always bothered me ) if someone can upgrade their macs hardware why impose a software based limitation that checks for a model number then decides not to install (without a over ride)

then after a product is blocked from a upgrade only make new software that requires the os they blocked forcing said user to purchase new hardware.

say what you will about Windows or Linux or other OS's but none have these have ever imposed a limit to what u can install on without a override

I dont use Apple products but have seen many of my clients have fallen into this category such as one who spent 5k on a mac just to have no updates or ability or buy a new os after 3 years

      I used a Pixel 10 Pro XL when it first came out for about 8 months. When I first got it, it was using Google assistant and that was fast, when asking it to call somone etc. Then it automatically switched with some update to Gemini. Doing even the simplist of things like asking it to call someone in my contacts was soooooo slow compared to Google assistant. I guess it had to go out to the cloud to do that? Back on iPhone and while Siri is dumb right now, it does do those simple things, like call someone, set a timer, star the stop watch etc, really fast. That an while I like Google Material Design 3 over iOS 26, they Pixel 10 Pro XL was so slow in comparison to the iPhone 17 Pro I am using.

      I use Gemini in my rotation of AI clients...that work pays for. It is good at most things, better than copilot for imgage searching and making images, worse at writing vs Claude and way worse at hadling technical issues when it comes to Azure stuff. I also use YT premium and maps. Anything else Google is a pass for me. I have now seen multiple people locked out of their Google accounts for reasons that are just very vauge.

      Microsoft is building an AI datacenter that "uses less water than a fast food restaurant" by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced plans to build a new datacenter campus in Pecos, Texas, as the company continues to invest billions in AI infrastructure. The new facility, called project Kilby, will reportedly have a capacity of 2 gigawatts and will be one of the largest single capacity additions in the company’s history. To power the campus, Microsoft signed a 20-year deal with Chevron to supply natural gas from the Permian Basin, America's largest oil field. This deal is set to become the largest collaboration to date between a U.S. oil and gas giant and Big Tech. It’s no secret that Big Tech has often been criticized for exploiting natural resources for its AI developments. Microsoft is trying to mitigate some of that negative consensus by promising to build its own power supply for the new datacenter, independent of the public grid. The Pecos datacenter will be powered by a power plant hub, built by Chevron, with up to 2.5 gigawatts of gas-fired capacity, with potential to scale to up to 5 gigawatts. The facility will include at least seven GE Vernova turbines, with first power potentially coming online as early as late 2027 or early 2028. The power plant hub is part of an approximately $7 billion investment by Chevron, making it one of the largest dedicated energy projects tied to a single datacenter campus in the U.S. Microsoft hasn’t publicly disclosed the amount it’s investing in the new datacenter. Microsoft has also committed to implementing a closed-loop cooling system that will only require an initial water charge to operate. The company said that “the total lifecycle water use of this datacenter is only a fraction of that consumed annually by a typical fast-food restaurant.” What the press release doesn’t mention, however, is how much water the natural gas plant itself will consume, or how a 20-year fossil fuel commitment squares with the company's pledge to be carbon negative by 2030. The construction of the new datacenter should provide over 6,000 construction jobs at peak build-out, and create hundreds of operational job roles once the facility is built. Via: Reuters
