What a rubbish selection of weapons, wheres the HK USP, Sig P226/228, FN 5-7 pistols?

Where are all the Sub Machine Guns, MP5 (they arent special purpose), P90, UMP, MP7, Kriss.

At least they have the SAW :|

They'll all be available within two weeks after release through the modding community, that's the beauty of the community behind Bohemia Interactive, it's really active.

Will it be the same though? I assume each gun will differ in handling and looks from creator to creator. They should add it themselves. It's a modern war game, not some cheap simulator. I really hope they add more weapons.

Oh believe me, some of the more 'popular' creators of addons will do a weapon pack or create some high quality addons, they will become the standard - Just like now. This isn't your ordinary modding scene where tons of creators just pump out mediocre addons, here it takes some skill and knowledge to do a proper addon, plus community sites also have a high quality standard. ( Not saying there aren't a lot of bad addons but not ones that matter - That's mostly pathetic reskins and such )

That's reassuring. I've only played the ArmA demo a handful of times. I just hope the game will run well on my PC.

There shouldn't be any doubts about this game, it's sticks to the old Operation Flashpoint / Armed Assault recipe, just with the VBS2 engine instead, updated graphics and a slew of new features. Go play Armed Assault for an example and you have a pretty good idea what this game is going to be like, they aren't doing a complete overhaul of the game as most people seem to think. So if you thought OFP / ArmA sucked, this will probably 'suck' as well.

WOAH How have I never heard of this game? Like ever?

Is the first one worth checking out?

It's made by Bohemia Interactive, the guys who created the first Operation Flashpoint - Maybe you heard about that? Armed Assault is basically them taking their 'game' and re-launching it under a new IP. The game has changed significantly since the OFP days with improved gameplay, graphics, new units etc. but beneath it all, it plays the same. Game is built on Bohemia's VBS1 engine, which is also used by military branches around the world, so the game is one of the most hardcore military simulators available, so it has been dumbed down for the sake of 'enjoyment', with huge maps, great multiplayer and co-op but it's still a very realistic game which does put a lot of people off.

As for giving the first Armed Assault a whirl ... Unless you are prepared to do some tweaking, limiting your RAM with various commands in Windows, don't bother. The current VBS engine has problems handling more than 3GB of ram in certain OS environments and despite multiple attempts to correct it, even their latest ( beta ) patch state it has been fixed, I still can't launch the game. I do believe my 4870X2 and 6GB ram plays a role in this, so your nVidia card may be alright ...

So if you are prepared to face some problems which can be fixed with tweaking, game is definitely worth checking out - It'll prepare you for ArmA II (Y)

I played OFP back in the day so I know exactly what ArmA was like.

Arma 2 release date - 26th June 2009

Quote Press Release :

505 GAMES ARMED FOR ARMA II

MILITARY SIMULATION SHOOTER IS GIVEN 26TH JUNE RELEASE DATE

Milton Keynes, 29th April 2009 - 505 Games and Bohemia Interactive today confirmed 26th June as the long anticipated European release date for ArmA II. The sequel to Bohemia Interactive’s celebrated military shooter promises to deliver more of the authentic battlefield experience the series is famed for, while developing each area of game play with expansive new features.

Featuring the most realistic warfare ever, ArmA II promises to build on the excellent features that have made Bohemia Interactive a respected name among gamers. Players can expect in-depth team-based combat, a comprehensive playbook of military tactics and an enormous battlefield to push strategy to the limit.

ArmA II benefits from a 3rd generation game engine that has been in constant development for 10 years; no other developer can offer such a great heritage in creating open-world military shooters. The Bohemia engine has been recognised as a benchmark in producing realistic warfare simulations to such an extent that the developer has used its Real Virtuality engine as the basis for training simulators used by armies across the globe, including the United States Marine Corps, UK Ministry of Defence and Australian Defence Force.

This experience is also helping Bohemia Interactive to craft an incredibly detailed storyline, full of political intrigue and plot twists, which blurs the boundaries between fact and fiction. Set in the near future in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus, players take on the role of a United States Marine Corps Force Recon squad, who are called to the country as a peacekeeping force to prevent further civilian casualties and ensure ongoing stability.

“It has been a pleasure building on the success of the first ArmA title,” commented Alex Price, Senior Global Brand Manager, 505 Games. “ArmA has such a vociferous community behind it that we new we had to get this one absolutely right. We are confident that the dedicated fans won’t be disappointed as will as any newcomers to the series.”

ArmA II will be released for 26th June exclusively for PC. For all the latest information please visit www.arma2.com

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
